still struggling to get in protein after 3 mths
sleeve_sister replied to sleeve_sister's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Minkywinks...I am going to Urgent Care in the morning. I am super dehydrated and I think I'm getting sick again too. In addition to being home with the kids...I had my surgery in FL, but live in TX, my surgeon that did my surgery left the practice last month, AND, I just last week was "accepted" by a pcp (been trying to get one for 4 months now) and my appointment is July 31st! (healthcare SUCKS here) So, I'm going to see what urgent care can do. Maybe they can refer me sooner. But, I did get scoped at 3 wks post op when I was hospitalized. They said my sleeve was very narrow due to. They put me on prilosec 40mg twice a day and now I'm just on it once a day. The closest bariatric surgeon near me is 3 1/2 hrs away so I just ended up following up with the surgeon that did my surgery last month when I was in FL before he left. He asked me how much protein and I didn't know exactly so I just showed him about how much I was eating and he told me he thought I was getting enough. I didn't realize I wasn't getting enough protein until I started logging it in MFP. But, the dehydration thing...yeah I've known that of course. Anyway, I'm blabbing. Thanks for your concern! I'm going to go get checked out in the AM once I get my kids to school. -

Thanks for the greek yogurt idea! I haven't tried it with the pudding mix yet, BUT I mixed it with italian blend part skim shredded cheese and thyme as a substitute for sour cream....it was awesome!!!! It tasted JUST like Olive Gardens Smoked Mozzarella Fonduta! AND, it was loaded with protein! I posted the recipe in "Recipe Sharing" if anyone is interested! -
still struggling to get in protein after 3 mths

Unfortunatly, if I did that, it would take four "meals" to do so. I can only eat/drink of a protein bar or shake at once. So, I have been doing one or the other at least once per day. That's the best I can do without only doing shakes. -

I haven't tried the greek yogurt with pudding mix, but I will try that too. If I could eat an entire egg, turkey burger, or even drink a whole shake, etc. I don't think I'd struggle so much to get my protein in. However, that's not reality for me. I'm not losing hair yet, so hopefully I won't. I just don't know if there is any other issues that I could have as a result?? I spent the first week post op in ICU and the third week post op inpatient too for dehydration, UTI, and kidney stones. My hubby works in the oilfield and is out of town for a month or two so, being sick is out of the question considering I don't know anyone in my town and we have two kids. I do take my vitamins and get B12 shots, so hopefully that's enough to make up for the lack of protein. Thanks everyone for your help!! -

Thank Doc. It's been a while, I don't remember. I thought it was 90, but that doesn't make me right. -

I did get some of the Syntrax nectar. I haven't tried them yet. I just mixed half of a serving of one of the samples I got with 8 oz of 2% milk and got it all down and I liked it. I eat beef Jerky too. But, like everything else it's very little. Maybe one piece at a time sometimes not even the whole piece. For Breakfast I usually do an egg with a piece of turkey bacon and cheese and can get down about half of that. -

As far as the sweet tea goes, I just need to get Crystal Light tea. It bothers my stomach that's why I've been drinking regular the last few weeks. -

I have tried EAS, Muscle Milk, one from Wal-Mart (dont know the name), Gatorade, Chike, and the samples I ordered are from Vitalady.com. I liked the one I had this morning, but it was so thick I could only drink 2oz. I'm going to try the Protein bars. What brand are they and where did you get them? -

I haven't been able to stomach the shakes since surgery, however, I ordered and received samples and tried one this morning. It was extremely thick so I went and purchased a blender bottle, but I haven't used it yet. I mixed it with skim milk. I do like pudding, but I can only eat about 1/3 of a cup before getting full. I also am super de dooper bad about drinking. I have only been drinking about 8-12oz of sweet tea a day! Yikes! I need to get it together as far as that's concerned for sure. -

I just made some amazing quiches that I'd like to share... Reduced Fat Cresents (one package made 16 quiches) Used a mini cupcake pan One was with one egg, cheese, and turkey bacon...calorie count 34 The other was with turkey pepperoni, cheese, and tomato sauce...calorie count 22 My 13 year old and his friend even loved them! I'll be trying with other combinations. I haven't calculated the Protein yet, but if anyone is interested in finding out let me know and I'll post it. Enjoy!!

Adding Friends on MyFitnessPal
sleeve_sister replied to kpaige77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know what MFP is, but what is the benefit of adding people? How does that work? -
I just used a mini cupcake pan and lined 16 with reduced fat cresents and then added the following: Breakfast Quiche In a bowl I mixed one egg, a pinch of shredded cheese, and two slices chopped turkey bacon. Then I scooped using an ice cream scoop making 8 mini quiches. pizza Quiche I mixed in a bowl 1/4 cup of tomato sauce, 1/3 cup of shredded cheese, and about 10 chopped turkey pepperoni's. Scooped onto cresents making 8 quiches. Baked on 350 for about 10 mins.

Summer Cruise Anyone?
sleeve_sister replied to sleeve_sister's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Either Carnival or RC. Carnival is typically cheaper. There's going to be drinkers on either one, but there's lot's to do even if your not drinking. Me and my hubby don't drink but it doesn't stop us from having fun. -
Summer Cruise Anyone?
sleeve_sister replied to sleeve_sister's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been on Carnival and Norwegian. Carnival was defianatly the better of the two. I have friends who've been on Royal Carribean and like it too. Carnival is supposedly a more of a party crowd. -
Summer Cruise Anyone?

The food is endless for sure. But, there's plenty of other things to do. Me and my hubby went on one for our honeymoon and they had an x rated hypnotist show. He volunteered...lets just say we left there and were standing at the elevator waiting to get on and a bunch of college age men surrounded him, got on their knees with their arms out "praising" him. It was HILARIOUS! We also did a newlywed game and for the rest of the week everytime the cruise director did his announcements he would say, "hey Tony, beep beep" because of one of my husbands ridiculous answers. LOL Needless to say we have a blast. Last time I cruised I was 4 mths pregnant and it was not a good experience. Time to try again. -

Sleeved in oct! Update
sleeve_sister replied to wnicoleb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved Oct 16th. HW 273, SW 257, CW 197. I am only 4'10 so I'm not even half way there, but I'm happy with the sleeve. I have been in a stall for 2 wks and I'm over it, but I started riding a stationary bike for exercise. (I have planar fasiitis and am supposed to stay off my feet as much as possible for another month:( ) Soooo, hopefully this stall will pass soon so I can feel accomplished again. Congrats on your success! -
I need a good tasting protein shake
sleeve_sister posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't like the shakes before surgery and I definatly don't after. However, I really need to get more protein into my diet. Anyone know of shakes that are tasty? I'm super picky...please help! Isn't there a site that I can buy samples?
