Fibromyalgia And Knee Joint Pain
sleeve_sister replied to Looking Ahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gabapentin and Lyrica work by blocking the brain signal that sensors pain. I was on Lyrica for almost 3 years and it worked but my doses had to be increased often. To the point that they tried adding other things like cymbalta which made me feel like a drug addict. Our insurance changed and I went from paying $15/mth to $98/mth for little relief I decided to ask for a cheaper alternative. I actually like the gabapentin better except that I have to take it 3x per day and I'm barely programmed to take meds twice a day. My goal is to decrease my meds not increase so I'm glad I made the change. I'm looking forward to getting this weight off and hopefully decreasing more. Ill be on gabapentin for the rest if my life for the neuropathy but that doesn't cause pain just numbness and weakness. (Nerve damage from a car accident). Good luck all!! Ps: never heard of gabapentin for dogs! That's wild! -

Thank you! I will be sitting on the edge! -
I'm 12 days post op, leaving FL to go back home to TX tomorrow night. I'm dying to go swimming with my kids! Anyone do this so soon? My incisions are all closed and doing well but I'd like to keep it that way! What do y'all think?

Thank you all! It's so nice to have this support! After having a 4 hour nap I had my friend come get me and take me to my old church. Feeling much better. I think I will be better once I get home to my hubby and have my car to get out of the house when I'm feeling down. My hubby and I had a long conversation today and this is quiting cold turkey. I just don't remember this when I had the band maybe it's knowing that this time it's definately a life long change not just a choice anymore. I'm praying for us. This too shall pass!!

Period After Surgery
sleeve_sister replied to norozco's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anesthesia can do that. Don't stress too much its common. I've had 11 surgeries in the past few years, half of them through my period off several months and half made me start even though I wasn't due too. I had an endometrial ablation a month ago and really have no reason to have a period anymore but I got k e after my sleeve surgery last week. Hopefully it will be my last because I do not want a hyst. -

Anyone Else Cranky?
sleeve_sister replied to Fitjen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a week out and emotionally miserable! I dont want to eat a dang thing and just want to sleep it off. It's almost like post partum depression without the nursing infant to deal with. I'm 1800 miles from home and just want to be comatose in my own bed! Ehhh I have anxiety meds but HATE to take them. I'm so dang stubborn I need to get it together but not sure how to. -
I am only 1 wk post op but I had nausea and vomiting for 24 hours after surgery. After they stopped the dilaudid pump I got better. Zofran, Reglan, and Phenergine were all used to help but failed. I ended up in ICU for 3 days due that and my heartrate being out if control. Now I'm doing fine the gas has subsided for the most part so I'm not so uncomfortable. I had a lap band so I knew what to expect for the most part. I was much more nausea after the band. I very happy with this procedure. I lost 16 lbs pre op and 9 since surgery last week. I'm pleased.

Susie, thanks for the encouragement! If I have a weightloss similar to yours, I will be sooo pleased. You must feel great! I am 5 days post op now, I had a rough start and spent the first 3 in ICU but all is well now and I am working through the emotional funk with little physical pain to get through my recovery. I wish you well and thanks for sharing! -
Hey y'all! I was sleeved on the 16th, spent 3 days in ICU because my heart rate was ridiculous and the day after surgery I was scheduled to do the swallow study but due to nausea and vomiting couldn't do it. I was not concerned about the surgery at all but that day had me very worried. Turns out after they changed my pain meds the nausea and vomiting resolved. I am glad I read y'all's posts because I too am having trouble getting in my liquids. My doctor told me that if that happened to drink Gatorade until I'm able to and try to get as close to 60 g of protein as I can with the shakes. I overdid it Saturday (less than 12 hrs after my release) as I had my brothers wedding to attend so yesterday I was miserable, in a major funk after being around family who are not supportive of my decision, and had several meltdowns. Thank God for my in laws who are with me and super supportive and are nothing but encouraging! As far as pain goes...I haven't needed any since day 3 with the exception of yesterday. The emotional effects are definately what I struggle with, but I think once I start to see the changes, it will boost my spirits. I have a post op appt today and hoping for a good number to do that. . Good to hear how everyone is doing so far! I helps a lot! Take care!

Love and Alicia, I understand your anxiety as I've been there! And, when I get to pre op the morning of ill be there again. I guess because I've already been through this once with the band, I somewhat know what to expect. The unknown is what causes the anxiety (for me anyway) and I try to block that out. I've had more than 10 surgeries and the hardest part of the band was the pre op diet, surgery was cake. I was shopping two days later. The sleeve is a little more invasive however I hear the surgery is comparable to the band. Try to read into the positive experiences rather than any negative. Your making healthy changes in your life and not many people are strong enough to get as far as you have already. Doing something is better than doing nothing at all. Your doing the right thing! God bless you! When are your surgery dates?
