Food Addiction
sleeve_sister replied to sleeve_sister's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will soon understand. Don't get me wrong I am blessed to have the sleeve. However, it's just a tool and it doesn't cure the food addiction. If it came with a lobotomy maybe, but you still have your head thinking about the food. That doesn't stop once your sleeved. You still think about, you still want it, and if your a control freak like myself it will be challenging like it is for myself. I am 5 wks post op, my idea of Thanksgiving besides enjoying family is enjoying food. Enjoying food has yet to happen since I've been sleeved. It's hard getting in the proteins I need to waste a "meal" on something I "want." The sleeve isn't just as easy as the surgery, it's an addiction that has to be cured. The easy part is losing the weight, but there's a lot more to overcome. Gamblers don't quit gambling and stop thinking about it, smokers don't quit smoking and quit thinking about it, etc. I think a support group to help with food addiction should be part if being sleeved. I hope this makes sense and answers your questions. I am blessed and I would do it all over again. I'm happy with my decision, but I'm struggling with my addiction. -

Sleeved July Second, Still Can't Eat :(
sleeve_sister replied to Mike Kristian Marshall's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried eliminating dairy? I was hospitalized for 4 days a few weeks ago for the same reason. Upper GI just showed that my stomach was narrowed and irritated. They put me on 40mg of Prilosec twice a day and I still couldn't eat. I stopped all dairy and within 24 hrs I could eat and drink soooo much better. I've never had a problem with dairy before but now that I'm sleeved I do. I hope you feel better!! Congrats on your weightloss! -
I'm down 50 lbs and am still wearing the same clothes. I did try on a pair of the capris that have been tucked away for years and they fit. My problem is that I don't want to try in clothes and be disappointed since I really don't know what size I'm in. My 13 yr old told me yesterday that the shorts I was wearing were "way too big!" Love that kid!

Am I The Only One Who Started To Hate The Taste Of Water?
sleeve_sister replied to SweetSaso's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have the same problem. I'm 5 weeks out. I drink Vitamin Water Zero. They are sweetened with Stevia not artificial sweeteners. They too have to be very cold where before I could do room temp. It's strange. I'm still not getting all my fluids in and drink Gatorade to get electrolytes. Yesterday I felt thirsty for the first time and I was out. I picked up a slushy from Sonic and couldn't wait to have it...it was gross! I was so disappointed! -
October Sleevers-How Ya Doin?
sleeve_sister replied to Holly5.3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's the instrument they use to size your sleeve. The smaller the tighter. Mine is a 40, some use a 36 or a 38 too. I was just curious because I had a rough time eating and just within the last week have been able to eat like I'm supposed to with the sleeve. -

Do you have a Tilly's? Old Navy and Aeropastle has nice men's clothes too. My 13 yr old 5'8 135lb son will only wear clothes from those three. Btw, about my 5'8 13 yo...I'm 4"10! Lol I'm getting ready to donate a bunch of clothes and hit the consignment shop. I'm not close to my ideal weight so no designer shopping fir me yet! -

Thanks! 30 lbs is great too! I never would have guessed I'd even lose 30 by now. I'm concerned with month 2. I have been reading the August sleevers posts and its the least bit encouraging. What should our goal be for month 2? -

Thank you! 30 lbs is great! I didn't expect more than 20 so I'm happy. Although, I'm concerned with month 2 as I've read some of the August sleevers posts and I'm not very encouraged. What kind if "goal" should we be setting for month 2? What's y'all's input? -
I had this problem too. I was hospitalized for a week week 3. All the nausea meds didn't help, BUT when I stopped eating/drinking dairy it went away and I've felt great since. Not saying you have a lactose intolerance but a lot of sleevers do. I am one of them. I even tried some cheese spread a few days ago and felt sick almost immediately. It also could just be dehydration and/or low thiamine. Try increasing fluids first that's most important (even over protein right now) and if that doesn't work cut down your dairy and see if that does the trick. My dr told me to drink Gatorade until I was getting in my fluids. I hope you feel better I've been there!

Who Were You Before Vsg?
sleeve_sister replied to happyfam's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only one month out but I too had a Lapband. I lost 24 lbs and gained back 40. I felt like such a disappointment to everyone. I was embarrassed and it got to a point that I didn't want to leave my house. It wasn't until today that I really realized that this was the best decision I've made for myself. Everyone has been bugging me for pictures (I moved to TX from FL in July so everyone doesn't see me often) and I found a before picture that I put next to a picture taken today. It's only 50 lbs but it makes a huge difference. As far as family goes, I did not tell my dad until the night before I was going in because I didn't want to worry him. The day after surgery I woke up (in ICU) and my dad was sitting at my bedside crying. Once again, I felt so ashamed. We didn't speak hardly for the remainder if time that I was in FL. Today I sent him the picture and he finally has excepted my decision as a good one. You can't lose (no pun intended) here. It comes to a point when your family is dependent on your health and its never a mistake to be healthy. God Bless you and your journey whichever path is chosen. -
