Week One: Milky Liquids?
Marty McSkinnystein replied to asalagaj's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wait.. so the intolerance could be avoided by not having milk? I always thought it happens (or not) based on the operation and the person.. not that it could be controlled. -

Seconding Guessing Here @ The Last Minute...surgery On Saturday!
Marty McSkinnystein replied to mrslittle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad I backed out 3 years ago ...of RNY though. Had I backed out of sleeve I'd really want these last 3 years back. Yes, it's a major decision but if you've done homework and have bounced up and down your whole life it's probably the best thing you can do. I love food, we all do here! But, I love how almost everyone says either their appetite for that stuff is gone, they eat a little of it (not pigging out which isn't healthy anyway) OR they're so happy with the loss that they no longer want to eat that way. Imagine the freedom from being basically shackled to this stuff that is slowly killing us. I say all this for me too. I refuse to back out this time. I'm ready! -

Sleeve/gallbladder Out Vs. Not Same Time-- Recovery And Other Things
Marty McSkinnystein posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Based on all I heard and read it seems people might have a harder time who have GB out at same time as sleeve surgery. I have large gallstones. I got freaked out because one, only 1, post in my search said that their surgeon said removal of gallstones at same time could be bad in case GB breaks open spilling contents causing infecting..yuck...I want to believe that's inaccurate info. that never happens with an experienced surgeon. Could it also be that if your GB is very large and being pulled through the small hole that would make healing longer. I've also wondered what the difference will be since I suffered for so long with the stones. How will I know what "symptoms" are due to not having GB vs. getting the sleeve. I have a friend who can't eat tuna or mayo since no GB...so if that's me how would I know if that was the no GB or the sleeve. These are the newest cuckoo thoughts in my brain. -
Sleeve/gallbladder Out Vs. Not Same Time-- Recovery And Other Things

Yes, the plan has always been to do it...just curious when I heard that scariness about infection- but you made that so understandable about how it's dealt with and I'm at ease now. Thanks! -

Of all days to read this. Having done all appts. etc. I realized I had forgotten my little cup to drop off the "sample" at the hospital-- just got the cup and the plan is to bring it tomorrow morning. I just read about how common it is after your post-- 50% of the world has it! My date is July 16th. The lesson is: Don't poop out on any tests! -
Yeah, they list blood clots as a possibility but there are so many things that can happen but never do-- so you never know which, if any, you could get. Sorry it happened to you. (I knew a very young woman who fell roller skating and got a clot in her leg and died). When it's your time, it's your time. And it's not your time--- because it was caught. Luckily, time passes, memories like this fade... and you'll be skinny soon!! Yay!!

Sleeve/gallbladder Out Vs. Not Same Time-- Recovery And Other Things
Marty McSkinnystein replied to Marty McSkinnystein's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're right and I shouldn't "borrow trouble" (also I'm not changing my mind about it anyway). I know there are some people here who are into comparing anecdotal things people say and I wondered if anyone studied that connection or found a correlation. I'm a person who reads the huge prescription inserts for example...so those kind of nerdy non-medical medical people (like me) might have ideas. I'll tell you- it will be a relief either way to not get the gallbladder symptoms. Maybe I'll find the pain of this to be less than that of my attacks. (But I would love to be able to eat eggs again). -

Still Suffering..and A Little Scared?!?! *bowel Issues*
Marty McSkinnystein replied to TMyers1471's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
WELL, when I've had coffee with a little cream that was..slightly beyond the due date it has made me go...I wonder if it wasn't the detergent but the fact that that part of the cup had cream/milk still on it (detergent and milk not completely washed away) that had gone bad vs. detergent. Haha...I'm thinking of how Drs. always yell at you when you tell them other people's stories and they're like "Oh you read it on the internet and you consider that medical advice?!?" LOL Can you imagine telling your doctor..."so I drank some dish detergent and I find it very therapuedic." -

I'm not your age but I'm filled with happiness at the idea of you getting to live your adulthood in good weight and health. (A teeny weeny bit envious too). Good luck in finding buddies your age here-- I'm sure there are many! P.S. I can't be my age without saying...be careful to follow Drs. directions... when you're young and carefree sometimes you're not as diligent w/Drs. orders. Excuse my advice. -

I was told to lose 14 lbs. and haven't (date is July 16th)-- it's been so hard. Every time I put together a couple good days I'm reminded of something I love that I really never want to eat again (or very rarely-- a taste maybe). I really hope I don't get cancelled. My plan is to totally be strict now and do the liquid diet with no cheat at all. -

Someone in my group this week told me that was her only problem post-op (I'm pre). She warned me (not that it helps you now) to do some kind of bowel prep first. So that's my fear... I'm used to coffee helping- but won't have that. So sorry- I hope someone can help you. -
Normal In An Unrealistic World
Marty McSkinnystein replied to Looking Ahead's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You were very brave to share so much about yourself. I want to ask you (because it's working for me) to try to think positively by repeating mantras so to speak. I've been listening to Dr. Dyer CD's about how you create what you want for yourself. Maybe start slowly by saying "I am beautiful. I am love and lovable." Here's what he said that I try to keep repeating "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." This is not a judgement post- I say it because all that stuff in society isn't real. We CHOOSE to believe it or not. All there really is is what you tell yourself there is. You are love and you and everything around you is beautiful. Ooh- this one is good too....."We are spirits in a body- not bodies with a spirit." -

Love this thread! For some reason, and even (t.v.) "journalists" do it, people have forgotten that "you" is plural. My biggest pet peeve: "Your guyses" as in-- Your guyses posts made me laugh. (Technically there should be an apostrophe but since it's not a real word I refuse to put in there). -
Awesome Idea For All You Busy Post-Ops!
Marty McSkinnystein replied to leighx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think there was confusion. Aaviva asked where you can get these WLS recipes. I meant there's this person/website named Eggface with recipes AND I have many books with recipes. (Haha I have the Idiot's guide to bariatric surgery w/recipes and The dummies one too). I don't know that Eggface made a book. There are sections in Barnes and Noble and my library for that matter now devoted to WLS cookbooks and info. I can't believe how much more there is from when I researched 3 years ago originally. -

You must go to "The World According to Eggface." She does recipes for "us" based on all the favorites (even shakes that taste like each girl scout cookie!!!). I bought every book or took it out of the library. -

You know I'm getting it done at the same place. Based on what everyone says and how good I know your Dr. is, you're going to be great in no time! I'm sorry you feel so sad. Maybe try reading some of the success stories here to remember how many people went through the same thing and no one regrets it after a little bit more time. You're getting thin and healthy!!! YAY!! Remember that!! (totally not to discount your feelings) -
Coffee- Decaf. K-Cups?
Marty McSkinnystein replied to Marty McSkinnystein's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the suggestions and it's great to hear that big coffee drinkers like myself survived. The other thing is coffee helps me....go.... I guess the caffeine. Did any of you fear constipation because of no coffee and find it was okay?
