A Lighter Me... Tijuana
Robbino replied to AmandaRaeLeo's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
What prompted you both to consider alighterme over readyforachange? I'm going with readyforachange but have seen some comments recently that suggest their service isn't as good. I don't even know if its possible to change at this point, or if i want to. I haven't paid my deposit yet, which will probably seal the deal. I planned on doing that within the next few days, though, so I need to make a final decision soon. -
Good luck! We'll be waiting to hear from you again soon!

Anyone Else Willing To Share Their Reasons For Having Surgery?
Robbino replied to lovex5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I could make a list a mile long, but here's the readers digest version: To be more physically active To feel sexy again To boost my self confidence so I can live up to my full potential To wear a two piece bathing suit in public To be able to shop anywhere To wear a button-up shirt that doesn't gape open between the buttons To wear single digit clothing Just to know what skinny feels like To eat in front of people without hearing their thoughts,"is she really going to eat all that?" Not to be the largest person in the room Not to be judged by my weight To feel comfortable in a booth instead of always asking for a table To be able to balance myself enough to wear high heels again To cross my legs and not just my ankles To be able to run without hearing clapping and realizing it's actually my thighs cheering me on -

I'm going through Alma at ready4achange too. She's been able to answer all the questions I've had so far. -
I was originally scheduled for Sep. 7th, but had to reschedule and am now going to have my sleeve done by Dr. Garcia on the 25th, in Mexico.

Hi everyone! I'm just begining my journey. I found out yesterday that my insurance won't cover my surgery, so I'm heading to Mexico. I've been reading the boards for a couple weeks and have learned sooooo much from you guys! I've decided to go with Dr. Garcia in Tijuana. I sent an inquiry and filled out the health history form through Ready4Achange and am waiting to hear from them. I have noticed several have gone through alighterme. Is there one that stands out or are they all about the same? I was also wondering about aftercare. Who do you see after surgery? Your primary care physician? A Bariatric specialist?

I'm an emotional eater, which is what got me to the 314lbs I am today. Here lately I have been eating everything imaginable like every day is the last supper. My surgery is scheduled for Sept. 7th and I'm feeling like I'm eating this way because I know after that date, I will no longer have that crutch. I quit smoking 2 years ago, so I no longer have that vice either. I really want to focus on preparing myself for this life changing opportunity. I'm worried that this could mean I'm not ready to have the surgery. I want it so badly, but I don't want to just set myself up for failure. Has anyone experienced this overwhelming urge to eat everything they can and want, just before surgery? Is this some kind of stage?

Did Anyone Schedule Without A Coordinator? Is It Necessary?
Robbino replied to lynnz's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm working with Alma now. Love, love, love Alma! So Quick to reply to my emails and very reasuring. I'm scheduled with Dr. Garcia in Sept. I was curious because there really doesn't seem to be a price difference. Dr. Garcia is $5,000 with Alma and I'm comfortable with my choice after months of researching and trolling discussion boards like these. If it's 5K with Alma vs 5K without, and her involvement as a coordinator makes me feel more at ease, I'll take Alma -

I'm really trying to make a conscious effort again to watch what I'm puting in my mouth. As for the "last supper" syndrome I've been experiencing the last couple of weeks, here's what I've come up with. The more I thought about the limitations I would be under, the more I started feeling deprived, thanks to all the failed weight loss attempts in the past. It made absolutely everything look good to me. So in my mind I'm equating this surgery to just another failed attempt, only this time I will be physically limited as well. I need to keep reminding myself that this time it will be different. This time I will see results from the effort I put in. Of course I'm also addressing the emotional eating issue. My new motto I keep Reminding myself, "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels," before I actually take a bite. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't, but nobody said this was going to be easy. Thanks everyone, for the advice and encouragement!

Reading these replies made me feel So much better, thanks for posting. It's good To know I'm not alone and that others are doing the same thing! Lilly, I've been dreading that liquid diet too, I'm telling ya! I may see if my Dr will put me on an appetite suppressant during that part. I don't want to get to the point my kids are guarding their food when I walk in the room lol. I feel like if I could just prepair myself mentally, like I did when I quit smoking, I'd be ok, but first a snack lol. Ouch kc, your last in and out

I'll be at the Marriott too!

Hey Dottie, I'm scheduled with Dr Garcia on the 7th, so I'll be in the recovery stage as you're getting surgery.

Definately check Priceline. Ticket prices skyrocket in the summer anyway, but there are still deals to be had. I will be flying out of Nashville in Sept to SD and found roundtrip flights from $249.

Good to know. My PCP was on board when I wanted to do the surgery in the States, let's hope she will support my decision to go to Mexico, otherwise I too may be changing Drs. Thanks everyone!
