I was at the same stage as you two weeks ago and wasn't sure if I should have got anymore fill but after discussing it with my fill doctor she put in . 3 and it was enough to make me loose interest in the night time snacking urge. Now I need to be extra careful to get enough calories in through the day as I easily go up to six hours not feeling any hunger and if I'm out all day and distracted I actually forget to eat as food doesn't even enter my mind.

Your poor wife. Lodge a complaint, what they did was so irresponsible and they need to make sure they don't put anyone else through the same thing. I had amazing care at my hospital. I hope your wife recovered quickly.

Oh Boy Pre Surgery Liquid Protein Diet
Summerrain replied to goldenlife's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ewwwwww, I had to do a whole month of pre op diet, I got through it but by the end I just had the Protein bars. Since being banded have not had one Protein shake, would rather gauge my eyes out lol. I even told my surgeon that and he laughed. I agree the liquid pre op was the hardest for me too. Just keep yourself extra busy, it's tough but knowing you will be banded at the end if it you'll stick to it. Good luck!!! -
Congrats it's an awesome feeling.

Ok I know this is in the wrong area, got on my computer tonight and updated my profile and signature but not sure if its showing as each time I went to check my IE would stop responding. Would somebody be kind enough to check for me please as my iPhone app doesn't give me the full version to check either.

The First Week After Banding Emotion...
Summerrain replied to EllieD's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Your up and down emotional state is very normal. I remember crying for no reason some days, it felt like it was for no reason till I worked out why. My reasons were mourning food, go figure, as if i couldn't ever eat again! It's a huge change from pre banding and it takes emotional adjusting. I'm three months banded now and I am so much happier, even though I have a long way to go. All the emotional ups and downs are worth it when you look in the mirror each week and see yourself getting smaller and smaller.... If you need to cry have a good cry, get it out of your system, a good cry from time to time can be a good thing. Months from now you'll think back and think why oh why did I ever cry, lol. -

What Does The Full Feeling Feel Like With The Lap Band?
Summerrain replied to TIGERLILY1988's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat till the 20 minute mark and by then or sometimes at the 15 minute mark my hunger goes away. I know that's when I need to stop. I've been told not to eat longer than 20 minutes as by then you should feel satiety. I no longer get that full over bloated feeling like I used to pre banding. When I finish eating I feel exactly the same as when I started eating if that makes sense. -
Well done!!!

The night time head hunger/ boredom thing was an issue for me for a while. Once I hit the green zone it hasn't been too bad. It's a hard habit to break. What I do now, and it usually hits me if I haven't eaten enough through out the day. Iff my dinner meal is a meal that is still moist enough to eat a few hours later I take a bite or two of that and that takes the edge off the wanting to snack. Also my dietician allows me one treat per day about one inch by two inches, I can either have it each day or bank it. I don't have my treat every day and my treat is a cadburys Turkish delight ( the small bar), when that night time urge hits and no matter what I do to ignore it and it won't go away, I give in, make a cup of tea and indulge in my treat. I make it last at least half an hour by taking tiny nibbles. This usually happens once every fortnight. I don't beat myself up and I enjoy it as its a treat. You are in no way a failure, you've lost a decent amount of weight so far. It's going to take time to make the new healthy habits stick and it does get easier once you have the correct amount of fill. Baby steps!

Ouch, you poor thing, it's an awful experience, it's happened to me twice in three months, first time on broccoli, it hurt and I felt it go through too and what a relief. Second time was on spaghetti, swallowed before chewing properly because I was in a hurry to answer the phone. That one was a pb and it put me off any sort of Pasta and I remember I had no desire for food for a good two days. You'll be fine in a day or so just stick to soft foods and remember CHEW, CHEW, CHEW! Lol. I think someone needs to come up with a jingle about chew, chew, chew so we can get it stuck in our heads!

Every day I read on this forum how some people are not given adequate follow up care after being banded. It's really concerning. One of the golden rules I am to follow, for the lapband journey to be successful, is to have follow up care for life. It is extremely crucial in the beginning because the way I see it no matter how much research we do prior to banding so many things come up during the post op stage that needs to be followed up with your careers. There's the new way if eating we need to learn, the right types if foods, Vitamin instructions. The confusion with how much Protein, carbs, fats which need to be addressed with a Bariatric nutritionist. I know if I didn't have all the fantastic after care I've been getting I would have been so lost and confused. Some of these places that perform lapband surgery really need to lift their game and give the appropriate aftercare that is crucial to be successful.

My heart goes out to you that the lapband journey has been so traumatic. Unfortunately some people do have a lot of problems, some because even though they do all the right things, things go wrong and then there is the other group that do all the wrong things and then say the lapband failed them. For me so far it's been fantastic, yes there are the ups and downs if learning to eat slower and taking smaller bites, honestly I am enjoying my food and really tasting it this way rather than gobbling it down not really tasting it and then feeling like crap by eating too much. So glad to have broken that cycle. The lapband is reeducation me with nutrition, good healthy food and being active. I feel so much more energetic, no longer need a nanna nap at 3 pm and I sleep better at night time, still snoring but not as bad. Honestly I think we all know what the right foods are that we need to eat and the right quantities. For me it was like my hunger switch was constantly on and the lapband has controlled that for me now. Before being banded I did my research well, I read about success stories and horror stories. Now that I am in lapband territory and experiencing living with it, what comes to mind is I wonder if some of those horror stories could have been avoided if people learnt how to live with the band. I know if I have an issue it's my responsibility to be in contact with my aftercare team. If I'm not then complications will arise. My surgeon has stressed so many times if i am having any issues no matter how small He need to know and He will help correct it. As much as I don't like that you've had such a hard time I don't agree with you warning everyone not to get it done. There are so many people that have had great success. What is important to point out however is that we all need to keep in contact with our team if we are experiencing problems so they can help us sort them out. I do wish you well and hope you are on a better path now and have success!

Can You Ever Drink Too Much Water?
Summerrain replied to farmgirl04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes you can drink too much water in a day but its a lot. I drink two litres during the day sometimes a bit more, even though I like water and always have don't think I could drink more than three litres a day. Besides water goes right through you unless you have retention problems. -
If You Had Only Known About The Restriction Issues..,...
Summerrain replied to Wgbem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The band will give you the assistance you seek but until you get to the green zone it's you that has to find the strength and willpower to give the band assistance. It's a slow process but a fantastic one when you hit green zone. -
If You Had Only Known About The Restriction Issues..,...
Summerrain replied to Wgbem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never gained weight either post op, there have been fluctuations by a few pounds day to day but it was mainly Fluid. Once I was on solids I stuck to the rules with my food choices and no more than one cup if food per meal. Some days it was extremely hard as I'd be hungry all day but I would sip my fluids and keep myself active and busy. Sure there were some days where I ate between meals but I would snack on cucumber slices or carrot sticks. It's really hard when you're constantly hungry till you start getting the fills but I know I had my lapband put in because I was so so over being so overweight and and I was going to give it 110% then some to stick to my new rules and healthy eating, it's amazing how much willpower you can muster up when you really really want the weight off and you have this tool to help and a Bariatric team behind you you don't want to disappoint either with all the work they put in to seeing you succeed. I started this journey at 366 pounds and this morning my scales read 301.6 pounds, I've come such a long way these past four or five months and I wouldn't have been able to do it without the band. This journey is a new healthy journey and we need to make changes every day, mentally too, and if we can do that from the first day of being banded each week gets easier, speaking from personal experience. -

9 Months And 152 Pounds

Wow what an inspiration you are, you have a very pretty smile. Love all your posts and they certainly have taught me a lot these past three months. Amazing weightloss!!! -
Eating with the lapband now is about healthy choices and portion control. No foods are off limits but in saying that unhealthy foods we need not eat them like we used too. Bread is not off limits, if you can eat it it's fine. There are healthier bread choices rather than the white breads. If you have a little taste it's not wrong. We have to learn that it's no longer a diet as before but a healthier lifestyle. Sure if you eat a big piece of chocolate cake everyday that isn't going to help you loose weight but a small piece every now and then is fine. When my kids have hot chips from time to time I eat a couple, enjoy them and I'm satisfied. In the past I would devour a box on my own, that's not fine. My slim friends don't count calories but they eat healthy foods combined with activity. They also eat unhealthy foods from time to time. We need to stop this unhealthy approach that all foods are bad and off limits and personally I believe if we can do that then we will have a better relationship with food. So please don't beat yourself up, you're doing great, you have the weight loss as proof.

If you can't keep anything down and you're overfiiled you're in the REDZONE, if you're pbing everything that is going to spell trouble for you. Yes we all need restriction but not to the point you can't keep anything down, you will do more harm than good. The definition if restriction is not what you are experiencing. Be wise, call your doctor as soon as you can and get it sorted out.

Stuck Episode That Lasted For About 30 Mins
Summerrain replied to Beth A's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you recently get a fill? For me when I'd get a fill I never noticed a difference right away but a week later I'd feel more restriction. Then I'd have to learn to take even smaller bites. Yes most definitely go back to liquids for a few days then introduce your mushies then if you're fine your solids. You have swelling because of the stuck episodes and need to let everything settle down. Just remember to take much smaller bites when reintroducing your solids again. Hope you settle quickly! -
Bully Calls News Anchor Fat, News Anchor Destroys Bully
Summerrain replied to 2muchfun's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
What a beautiful woman, hopefully the idiot that wrote the email was watching. I am so sick of nasty mean people. What is this world coming to! I bet if he was face to face with her he would be a gutless whimp. Everyone I meet I treat with respect, as she said I don't care if you're black, white, yellow, gay, beautiful, ordinary looking, disabled, the list goes on. Treat me with the same respect I treat you with and I will treat you the same. So over shallow, thoughtless, mindless, nasty people. When it comes to the Internet you have no idea who people are or what their state if mind is in and can't go typing mean comments, grrrrrr getting too worked up over this subject, time to go walk on the treadmill me thinks. -
How Does It Feel When Things Get Stuck
Summerrain replied to Wgbem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lol yes warn him! Sliming is when you start producing excessive saliva and like this mucous substance. The body's way if trying to help get the food through. I know it's gross. -
It Is Like I Never Had Surgery Sometimes
Summerrain replied to prettysmart1913's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I'm going to say it, $10,000 surgery or not, patience little grasshopper! It's a slow process getting to that green zone but so worth all the $10,000 once you get there. The way I see it this is a good time to put your new skills into practice and whip out that willpower. Keep yourself busy and distracted, it helped me a lot when there were days I could swallow the whole fridge in one go. Every single wardrobe and cupboard in my house got spring cleaned, my garden is weed free, my house is spotless and my business files got reorganized lol. My husband said to me are you sure you're not about to have a baby because I did the same thing before by babies were born, lol. Just try to find it in you to keep on track, it's tough but as I said we'll worth it and it gets easier.
