Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
Dana replied to whosthatgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think the pre-op diet has something to do with how overweight you are to begin, and also whether or not your are insurance or self pay. -
Hello JuneBugs! This is a little gross, but I want to share because some of you might be going through the same thing. I too, had a large swollen, painful port site incision after two and a half weeks post-op. The incision was slightly red, but not infected looking. Then the other day after taking a shower I noticed liquid dripping from the incision. It was a thin, yellow-red tinged liquid that looked like a large blister popped. My incision drained for three days. I had to change the bandage several times a day because so much was coming out of me. The doctor said that sometimes old blood has to make its way to the surface. I am taking a round of antibiotics just in case, but he says that this happens to patients frequently. Now, the port incision has gone down and does not hurt. I am still a little sore sometimes though. On a lighter note, has anyone tried the Lipton Diet Green Tea? It is delicious and is now my drink of the day since my beloved Diet Coke has gone out the window! I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow. I am not sure if it is just a check up or if I am getting a fill. I am hoping for a fill because I am HUNGRY! Talk to ya'll soon.

Musical Momma - I hear ya! I gained two and 1/2 pounds in one day. The only thing I did was eat 1/2 baked potato and small cup of lemonade! Go figure. I think I will have my DH hide the scales, then weigh myself only once a week.

Water and food in the same time ? harmful or harmless?
Dana replied to Pebbles0106's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am newly banded and just figuring this stuff out also. I never eat and drink at the same time. I think it is okay to drink more than an ounce every 15 min. 4 weeks post op. I am two weeks post op and sip slowly through out the day with no problems. If you are still concerned, it never hurts to call the doc! Good Luck -
Captain Danbo- I am so happy you are doing so well. Welcome to Bandland. I am nine days post-op and I feel almost back to normal. I am still a little sore now, like when I bend over or turn a certain way. For the most part, though, I feel fantastic. I was feeling so good today that I took the baby to the mall for about three hours. I had his one year old portrait taken at Penny's. He was so cute. I treated myself to a pair of sandals and a new blouse to Celebrate the 17 lbs that I have lost. It won't be long now until I can shop at "normal" stores, not that I have anything against Lane Bryant. But, I am looking forward to walking into a store and picking out clothes from the misses section. Won't that be nice! I think I over did it a little though. As soon as I got home I put the baby to bed then I put myself to bed. I was extremely tired. After taking a two hour nap I felt much better. My DH (darling husband) went to TGIF's and brought some brocolli cheese soup to me. It was delicious! I am supposed to wait until next Wednesday to go to mushies, but the brocolli was very soft, I ate slowly and chewed my soup. Yum! Yum! Congratulations to all the newly banded. This thread has been so helpful to me. I hope all the June Bugs are able to stick together. I really like the little team we have going. You guys rock!

Hi Heather, Please add my name to the calendar. My surgery date was June 20. Thanks

Yeah Farmer! It sounds like you are doing fantastic. That's great! I can't believe you feel like typing so soon after surgery. It must be those great pain killers! hee hee BigSexy - I just said a prayer for your surgery tomorrow. I know everything will be fine. Let us know how you are when you feel up to it.

Hi Shawn and Irma Linda. I am a new bandster living in Corpus Christi. I am just getting started, but everything is going well. I am looking forward to this new adventure. Are you interested in a Corpus lapband support group? My surgeon required me to see a counsellor here in town prior to having the surgery. He has counseled several lapband patients before and mentioned to me that he would like to start a lap band support group. Let me know if you are interested. Good luck to you both and keep in touch. I will add you to my buddy list.

Water and food in the same time ? harmful or harmless?
Dana replied to Pebbles0106's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Of course all the docs' rules vary a little, but one of my doctor's hard fast rules is absolutely no drinking with meals. He says drink (sip) up until you start eating, none while eating and none for one hour afterward. I am new at this and I think this will be a bit difficult for me. Drinking with meals can either flush the food through the band or cause it to get stuck which they tell me is painful! I am still on liquids so I have not experienced this yet. Best of luck to you.... -
Best wishes Farmer and Marga! I know you will do great. I am six days post-op and I am starting to feel back to normal with just a little soreness.

Hello to all the Junebugs! I was banded on June 20 in San Antonio by Dr. Stegemann. I am feeling better everyday and looking forward to getting back to my new normal! My first fill is scheduled for July 6th. I wonder what the first fill will feel like? When will I be released to drive? How long before I can pick up my one year old? What about exercising? I am sure the doc went over this, but I was a little out of it at the time. OK...I was out in la la land. This website is really great. I am looking forward to getting to know you all as time goes by. I know we are just supposed to be healing right now, but has anyone thought about a June bandsters challenge? Has anyone set any short term goals for themselves? Do tell!

Post Op Liquid Diet Question - Help?
Dana replied to OnlyMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had my first appointment. My second is next week. Then I will set my surgery date. My doctor has told me the first six weeks will be a liquid diet. Even with the lap band, I think I will starve to death! Does the hunger go away, or what? That just sounds like a long time to go without eating food. -
I have choosen a doctor and had my first (5 hour) appointment. I am very excited and wish I had the surgery yesterday. I really love my doctor. I am wondering if anyone has used him in the past. Any information, good or bad, will be appreciated.

Stephanee- I can really identify with you. Like most of us, it sounds like you have some emotional issues with your weight. I have not been banded yet. I had my first appointment this week. My next appointment is next week. One of the people that I will see is the psychologist. I am sure he will have a lot to say to me! I cried on and off through the whole appointment the other day. My doctor, his physician assistant and my patient advocate all wanted to go over my medical history and questionaire. Just talking about my weight and self-esteem and how it affects my life is very painful to me. Growing up I was always very beautiful and beauty was highly prized in my family. As I have gained and gained weight my entire self worth has been lowered to nil. What made me read your thread was you tag line, "not just a pretty face." I know how that feels. I have heard that so many times from well meaning friends and family...."You have such a pretty face." It is meant as a compliment, but it is definitely not! I hear "the rest of you is ugly." I am working on myself and will have to have some counselling before and after my surgery. The doctor said this will help my weight loss results and my overall well-being. This website is also very helpful because I see so many people struggling with the same feelings of hurt and sadness. Please add me to your buddy list. I would like to keep up with you. I have Humana PPO. I can't find anything about LPS in my benefit booklet or on the website. I will call tomorrow, but I really don't want to tip them off until I am better prepared. Has anyone ever dealt with Humana? I appreciate any advice.

I am still learning about lap band surgery.... What does the port look like on the outside of the body? Is it covered by skin? Or, is there a plastic thing outside of the body? Thanks in advance.... Dana
