Why Does Weight Loss Surgery Fail?
mylynn1377 replied to Jean McMillan's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Thanks Jean. Even though I'm not getting surgery anytime soon and I am trying to do this on my own I still come here often to get inspiration and even a stern lecture from time to time. I know so many factors contributed to my obesity, but at the end of the day my endocrine system didn't make me eat a half a pan of brownies. Now I choose to walk away from the brownies and run to my bell pepper strips. I'm not saying every day I make good choices, but everyday I get better at making healthy choices. So thanks for your articles, they help keep me going! -

So I have been silent on the blog front lately, which isn't normal for me, but I have been back and forth on some issues. As we know from previous blogs I had issues with insurance and was facing the decision to pay out of pocket for lap band, which I don't have, or have gastric bypass. Well I went in to my regular doctor and she threw another curve ball my way. She now doesn't think that I need any surgery at all. She believes that since I have lost over 20lbs in 2 months on my own that I can do this on my own. She sat down with me to throw this info at me. I am on a time crunch with insurance, mine is over in October and my fiance's doesn't cover WLS. So If I switch to another managed care I can get lap band, but I will have to pay for fills/unfills/follow up care out of pocket. If I got gastric bypass, the first year is very critical and I would have to take care of that cost out of pocket also. But since I am doing well on my own, and pretty positive about the loss so far, we can leave it the way it is and revisit some other help later on down the road because my fiance's insurance will pay for a bunch of different weight loss medications. So now I'm on the what the heck just happened here track? Ok I am doing well and very proud of myself for keeping this momentum going. I have managed to really change my lifestyle, way I look at food, etc. A lot of that is credited to all you lovely people on this blog. Its great advice and motivation even for the unbanded really. To top it off, I have had at least 4 people be relieved that I'm not having surgery of any kind. So now I am faced with what to do. I could go ahead and change managed care plans because I already have the referral and approval at the center that originally evaluated me for lap band. That is if the managed care plans allow me to change, which also means I would have to change all my doctors and my kids doctors too. Blah....I really didn't want to do that. So now I am stuck here in limbo again, trying to make a plan! Lol, if its not one thing its the other!

I am at 312 right now and have found that swimming works for me. I am just aimlessly swimming and playing with my kids in the pool. I will be taking a water aerobics class soon too. I got a treadmill for free from my almost sis in law and I have been getting on when I feel like it and just doing as much as I can. That's all you can do right now is as much as you can, but try to push yourself a little bit every time and before you know it you will be cranking up the incline and walking 45 minutes!

When You Get To Your Goal Weight, How Do You Plan To Reward Your Self??
mylynn1377 replied to Anniie.N's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
There's a lady that is an excellent photographer in the town I just moved from. She has a specialized photography called Boudoir Pictures. When I get to goal I want to have tasteful but sexy pictures taken and put in this really pretty album for my fiance..who will actually be my husband by then. As soon as the wedding is taken care of in October, we are putting away savings for me to get tummy tuck, breast lift, arm lift etc so that I can seriously rock these pictures! -

Protein Shakes Enough For A Breakfast Meal?
mylynn1377 replied to meyouus's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have pure protein frosty chocolate already made in the can almost every morning just because I hate cooking breakfast except for weekends. My go to before was always something bad so i have my meds, wait an hour, then have a protein shake and a cup of coffee. I love them things...35g protein, 170 cals, 4 carbs. Can't beat it. One day a week I have a protein shake for breakfast, a high protein bar for lunch, and a very sensible and low carb dinner. I call it my jumpstart day...gets the stubborn off faster. -
You lady are also rocking it, and kicking its booty! I can't wait for twoderville either....ahhh not having a 3 to start my weight out..I haven't seen the like in almost 4 years!
-
Checking in at 314.6! Down 1.4 from last week and passed my July goal already! So I will change my July goal to 312 and see if I can hit that!

Eat To Live...no Longer Living To Eat.....
mylynn1377 commented on Jim1967's blog entry in Jim1967's Blog
Super great job, being in the zone sir and congrats on the weight loss so far! While I am not banded yet and still in WLS limbo for the moment I am trying hard every day to control my obsession for baked goods. Fast food, greasy food, doesn't appeal to me anymore and I find myself evaluating every food choice to see if it's worth the work to eat it. But what still gets me is baked goods. Not even candy appeals. Iced coffees, no way. But you slap some cake, cookies, brownies, etc in front of me and yeah I'll eat it. So to combat this my fiance comes up with the plan that if I want the whatever I have to prove that I earned it that day, I have to add 15 minutes of exercise the next day or that day, and I have to take 3/4 of the recommended serving size so I eat less calories than listed. This is my evaluation tool and more often then not I don't want the extra hassle to have it. If I am willing to do the work for it then I really want it and its not just because it's there. So far its working out well for me, but I can't wait until my insurance comes to a decision so I know what tool I get to use to help me with this! -
I have portioned out tiny bags of peanuts, unsalted of course. I eat weight watchers smoked mozzarella string cheese..50 calories per stick. I have the weight watchers spreadable cheese wedges for crackers. I get reduced fat cheese nips and only have half the serving size suggested on the box but I do eat the whole cheese wedge because its only 35 calories per wedge. I try really hard to avoid carbs in my snacks and save that for something that I really, really want later. Sometimes I just drink a small glass of milk if I am just a bit hungry or shaky..I have a hard time keeping my blood sugar on an even keel (hypoglycemic) so I have to watch that I don't go too long without some carbs to balance me.

I Love My Band..no I Hate My Band...no Wait I Think I Love My Band! Uuuuggghh!
mylynn1377 commented on jennifer1's blog entry in jennifer1's Blog
It seems like in most self pay cases the doctors will do a small unfil if you have a problem and usually not charge you for it. So just call the doctor and tell them what's going on. Restriction and not being able to eat are two different things. -
I go to Sparkpeople.com and plug in my food there. They count the calories for me so all I have to do is throw the info at them. Some people don't have to count calories. Others only need to count until they get pretty used to what a decent portion size is. For me though it really opened my eyes to what I was eating. When I started I figured out pretty quickly that I was taking in 2500 calories a day. I was pretty shocked honestly. I keep at it now and try not to go more than a day without inputting my stuff so I know what damage I did or if I was a good girl!

Down to 316! I was a swimming girl this past week. A few hours in a small pool dragging two toddlers around. Didn't seem like exercise at the time but boy they wore me out!
