I'm going into this pretty much expecting that I'll have to have tummy, arms, and breasts done. Back to back babies and gaining a ton of weight, plus the damage from 2 c-sections has already given me saggy, loose, skin. I can't wait until I've lost enough to where I can say..Hey husband lets get me some plastic surgery!

Metformin/Glucophage for weight loss
mylynn1377 replied to amcdowell779's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on Metformin now but only because my last few fasting labs have had my blood sugar at the high end of normal. Prediabetic/ insulin resistant can be a side effect of hypothyroidism, which I have also. So we thought to give it a try. I know it's caused me some stomach issues and diarrhea but honestly since I had my gallbladder taken out I have had those issues anyway. I haven't noticed a weight loss per se, but I have noticed that I am loosing inches since I started taking this. Which would make sense, seeing that with insulin resistance and hypothyroidism it can make you gain belly fat. So since they upped the thyroid meds and put me on metformin, my hormones are working better so hopefully that continues to translate into less belly fat. -
Ok for all the lovely peeps out there that have had RNY either recently or in the distant past, I was wondering if you guys could compare it for me to other surgeries. I have had 2 c-sections and one gall bladder removal so I was wondering in terms of pain, recovery, feeling like your insides will fall out, etc where does it compare to either of these or does it compare at all? I have a pretty high tolerance for pain but no patience for recovery and I am trying to get a ball park idea of what kind of help I will need at home after surgery. I can say that with my first c-section I was up an going within the first week. I felt great, hardly any pulling or issues. With my second c-section it took a lot longer to get going and my staples got twisted which hurt really bad. Gall bladder was moving pretty well within a few days. Would you all say that it's somewhere in between these kinds of surgery? Just kind want an idea!

We forget our surgery can be an inspiration
mylynn1377 replied to Lebim's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
A friend of mine inspired me to take this journey. She had it done two years ago and when I asked her about it she said that it wasn't just the weight and looking better in clothes. She found she didn't have as much anxiety, she had less frustration and more patience with her kids. She could do more with her kids, she went back to school and got a wonderful job. All of these positive things that happened to her simply because she had rny. She said she had spent most of her teens and 20s heavy and missed out on a lot of stuff because of it. She didn't want to dedicate anymore of her life to being unhealthy. That's the clincher. I have spent all of my 20s and part of my 30s overweight, sometimes grossly overweight. I don't want to dedicate more of my time to this. I want to get a life! -
"You're looking great"....but how does that make you feel?

I think ladies that maybe this might help a little. My grandma told me one time when I was younger and a heck of a lot skinnier that it was really rude to dismiss a compliment when someone tells you something. You are saying to that person that either you don't believe them or that you don't value their opinion or observation. If you have problems accepting the compliment then say thank you and change the subject or compliment them back to get the attention off of you. That's the best way to handle those things. On a side note I believe that there is something beautiful and worthy in all of us, regardless of size. You are a wonderful person in your own right and deserve to have people recognize that thing that makes you special. It doesn't matter if it's your eyes, hair, hands, butt, or heart/soul. I have met tatted up and pierced people who would give you the shirt off their back and have the most beautiful soul. I have met super wealthy people who would do the same. I have met people who are not conventionally pretty but their smile could light up a room. Their is something in all of us that deserves recognition. Unless you're a serial killer...then I have nothing nice to say..lol -
What Protein Shakes Do You Use?
mylynn1377 replied to LosingItForMe2011's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I would say to ask your nutritionist about it but I honestly like the Pure Protein ready to drink. They have two different sets one is 25 g of protein and one is 35. I get the 35 ready made in Frosty chocolate. Love it so much. It's really good to chill and put in a glass with lukewarm or cool coffee and make an iced coffee out of it. I would say if you used it in place of a meal you would be ok, but def ask first if you are concerned at all. I haven't had surgery yet but I'm def going to use these for my preop diet. -

I do the Pure Protein ready to drink frosty chocolate and get them from Amazon. They have ones on there that are even higher in protein. Never caused stomach issues and they tasted pretty good. I'm getting ready to try the Chike since they have one that is an iced coffee Protein Drink. The Chike are more like a Meal Replacement then just a Protein Shake though. But I don't think extra Vitamins would be a bad thing. -
I'm from Missouri. Haven't seen anyone from Mo on here.

"You're looking great"....but how does that make you feel?
mylynn1377 replied to mom2lucky (suznc)'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love compliments. The best compliment I ever got was the day I got married in October. I had busted but and lost almost 30 lbs in 6 months by dieting alone. It was a hard fought struggle, but I fit in my wedding dress that my mother-in-law made for me. When my husband saw me coming down the aisle he started tearing up and when I got to him he looked me dead in the eye and said that I was absolutely beautiful. At 307 I was stunning to him. It has given me the confidence to pursue WLS because I know that no matter what he will think I am beautiful. Now I can't wait for everyone else to see what he sees. I've heard comments from people in his life that didn't know I was listening, saying things like what does he see in her, she's just sooo big, she has a pretty face but..., etc. Can't wait until I get the chance to have people ask me how much weight I've lost instead of when is your baby due? -
Mother Nature is Blocking my progress
mylynn1377 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So I haven't posted yet as I am gun shy of saying too much and nothing coming of it. This happened to me last Summer when it seemed like I was going to get banded. Then at the point of starting the few pre-op things I was supposed to do, screeching halt because my insurance quit paying for lap band as the success rate for long term was questionable. But there wasn't a surgeon or surgery center/hospital near me that offered RNY and took my insurance. So I figured that I would just have to do it on my own. I dropped 30 lbs, yeah that's wonderful, but it took me about 6 months, which isn't normal by any means. I had just about given up on this whole thing when the town I used to live in got a wonderful new bariatric surgeon, who takes my insurance, and so does the hospital where he does his surgery. YAY!!! So stoked. Went to the seminar, got my initial visit in and got a weight loss visit in with the PCP so I can show continuity. The office called and got my EGD set up for the 26th, I got another appt with the PCP for later that day, and that would give me 2 consecutive visits so Yay again!! Then the office called me and they had my nutrition appt, physical therapy, and sleep study all scheduled plus my consultation with the sleep study doctor and my follow up with the surgeon. Yay again, and I'm getting excited. But then...mother nature decides to dump snow on most of Missouri, except down south where I am and we have a lovely sheet of ice. So we've been digging out the last few days so that I can get stuff done for my appts on Tuesday. Now they are calling for more snow, but not here where I'm at. Up there where I have to be for appts. The thing is if I have to reschedule the EGD, then we are probably going to have to reschedule every thing else. And the kicker is I have to see the PCP before the month ends or I have to start over again. I seriously doubt the bureaucrats at my insurance company are going to make an exception for bad weather. So I am ranting today because I needed to vent. Argh!! Missouri weather is seriously jacked up! -
Mother Nature is Blocking my progress
mylynn1377 replied to mylynn1377's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks SKNY. It really is frustrating. Trying to coordinate all of this, plus the fact that I have to drive 80 miles one way just to get to these appts. and try to plan things at home so the husband and the boys are all taken care of. It's really frustrating to see the light and be just that close and have things happen that you have no control over. I'm tempted to go up early and stay in a hotel, the only problem with that is getting back to the room after the EGD because I won't be able to drive. I guess I shall call them Monday and see what they say. If I can get it moved just a few days later and still get into the PCP before Thursday then I can still swing everything else. Fingers crossed for both of us!!! Snow, and sleet go away and don't come again another day!!!!! -
I fight with him, but in the end, he almost always wins.
mylynn1377 commented on Cecilia's blog entry in Conversations with Ed
My Ed gets me when I'm eating something that I like. I can go without and if I'm really not hungry then I may have a small bowl of cereal or oatmeal, maybe some toast. My problem is when I am hungry and I find myself with a plate of food that I truly enjoy, then I can put away more food than a hungry trucker. I've had friends be with me for days on end and say that they truly didn't understand why I was so overweight, because I didn't do this at every meal. But I did do it a few times a week, or I would make a pan of fudgy brownies and eat half the pan in one day, complete with a large glass of milk. Ed gets me when I feel crappy and I want to carb out, when I'm having a bad day and I want a giant cheeseburger with onion rings and a shake, or I have to leave the house really early in hurry and so it's easier to get McDonald's drive thru breakfast and my poison is a McGriddle at 450 calories per. That's when he gets me. So I have avoided McDonald's, I refuse to buy brownie mix, and I use a decent size plate at dinner and I make myself sit there for about 10-15 minutes after I get done with the first plate to make sure that I want more because I'm hungry or just because I like the taste of the food. I am trying my best to be aware and in the moment when I make a food choice so that I can ask myself if I really want it, or is it convenient, soothing a problem, or does it just taste good? So far it seems to be helping and everyday it gets better. -
I want my outside and inside to match. I am an outgoing, happy go lucky person and I want my confidence back. I want my hell raiser back, I want me back. I don't know who this fat, anxiety ridden woman is but I don't like her. I want to be able to go do stuff without having to pre-plan everything and make sure its fat girl friendly. Oh and I want to fit in a seat belt in my mother in laws car because her stupid Buick seems to think that if you're bigger than roughly a size 20, then you should stay home or take your chances being thrown around in an accident.

I think I will revise my goal and try to hit 299 by my birthday in April. Here's to hoping!
-
My final weigh in still had me at 307. I still lost this month, just not as much as I had hoped and I haven't gotten to the goal of 299 that I wanted before my wedding. But I've lost almost 30 lbs so that's nothing to sneeze at and after the wedding on Saturday, I will keep reaching for my goals. Would like to get to 280 before we start trying for a baby so that's the next big one!
-
I forgot to chime in on Friday since I was out of town all weekend. Still holding at 307...sometimes I wish I could lose the "average" and healthy 10 lbs a month...errr I would settle for 5!
-
Checking in this a.m. still at 308. Didn't drink near enough water yesterday and I was puffy this morning so I figured I better get on it today. Upping my exercise next week so that I can see if I can meet my goal. Only 9 lbs left but I only have until Oct. 6th to reach it!

What Are You Looking Forward To Most?
mylynn1377 replied to kittylove32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I checked something off my list this past weekend. I have lost enough weight that I could physically handle going to the fair in my home town and walking. Still haven't lost enough to ride rides but that is my goal for next year. I want to loose enough to get on rides with my kids!
