    Clothing

Reading the list for the hospital list got me thinking about clothes. How quickly do you start going down in sizes, and how frequently do you need to move to the next size? Do you just go through a period of time when you don't have much to wear? I keep telling myself not to bother buying more clothes these days, because hopefully it won't be long before I don't need them.

    Who Are You Telling

This a tricky one for me, because no matter how I lose, to me it's private and I don't want to talk about it. The biggest concern for me is telling my adult children simply because I don't want the to worry.
  3. Tonight I went to my first of 8 classes, and I'll have my date in four weeks. I have the choice between bypass or sleeve, and at first I thought I'd do the bypass, but now I'm leaning towards the sleeve. I'm interested in hearing from folks on their thoughts of the pros and cons. Going to class tonight and really starting to see the process in action really excites me. I'm ready for this and looking forward to the next chapter in my life. One of the women in my class said to me,"Just think, 10 weeks from now, this will all be behind us!". That was a pretty amazing thought.

    Nice To Meet You

Yeah, that vitamin absorption business really worries me. The thought of my hair falling out also scares me.

    Unknown

Tomorrow is my first of eight weeks of classes. I will have a date about a month from now, and I'm hoping for mid July. My dr. said I don't have to do the liquid diet, except for the last three days, and that is for the liver. I have to say that this site is what is keeping me going, and I am amazed at the generosity and kindness of the people on here.
  6. While waiting for my place in line, I was encouraged to keep trying to lose weight, and I did weight watchers. I was doing ok and lost a few pounds when I was notified I am now in line and starting the process. I start my classes this Monday, and I will probably have surgery in July. In the meantime, I have been eating horribly! Has anyone else done this? My habits are totally in the gutter all of a sudden, and I'm wondering if it's sort of a last "hurrah" while I can.

    Pre-Op Weirdness

Am I going to miss this afterward, or feel more indifferent to food? Does the temperamental tummy do enough to willingly give it up?

    Surgery Tomorrow ;-)

Still a ways off, but it was wonderful to read this--especially reading your post afterward!! Keep us posted.
  9. Had my first appointment today and it looks like I'm aiming for mid-July. I've been given the choice between RNY or a vertical sleeve ( I think that's what it's called). Anyone know anything about what the differences are? Advantages or disadvantages? Thx!
  10. I'm starting to think I'm getting it, but I'm curious about what it is like to be hungry after surgery. Does it change? Go a way? Obviously we could all eat quite a bit before surgery. I need to know that my physical cues will change, and I won't feel the same way towards food. I'm afraid of having the same cravings, and the inability to deal with it.

    Bypass Or Sleeve?

I'm inclined to go with the bypass at this point. The more established the procedure, the more I feel okay about it. My insurance gives me the choice, but I'm going bypass.

    What Do You Tell People?

It has been interesting to see the responses, and i really appreciate the support I've found here. I've realized by seeing these responses, that I'm not as concerned about how people respond, or what they think, so much as I'm just a very private person, and would never really talk to people about any of these things. I guess I would reframe this conversation some, and ask, if you aren't telling people what you did, what did you say when asked about how you lost the weight? Has anyone out-right just lied, and said it was "surgery" without saying what type? I'm not advocating dishonesty, but I'm curious. One of the only people I know who did this told me she had stomach cancer, but I'm very sure she didn't. I suspect that more people do have bypass and don't disclose that they had surgery, not that I think they owe an explanation to anyone.

    What Do You Tell People?

Definitely not the easy way out.

    Natural Foods

I'm just starting my classes and will probably have surgery in July. One concern I have is that I won't be able to continue eating natural, less processed foods. Does anyone have experience with this, or advice?

    Natural Foods

Thanks for the response. I'm pretty psyched about it, but then I come across some nightmare stories and I get worried.
