asking a crazy?
BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 replied to Mastiff_mama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dehydration can cause constipation for sure and can also contribute to kidney stones. You aren't getting enough fluids through your kidneys to flush the calcium oxilate out, or the other gunk that can cause the stones, so it builds up and then you get a stone (calcium oxilate are the most common type of stones). Drink, drink, drink! I got super constipated about two weeks after surgery and my NUT and NP told me not to take anything for it but just to drink more water. I was frustrated because I WAS drinking water, more than 70 oz a day PLUS other fluids and I was still stopped up. I got some Sennacot and Dulcolax suppositories and that got everything going again. Good luck! -
Is obesity a medical condition.....
BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 commented on DebDUtah's blog entry in DebDUtah's Blog
My insurance required the same as cbd up there. I was in the same boat as you, no comorbidities just obesity. My BMI was 53.6 when I started to lose before my preop diet, now after losing for a month prior to my preop diet, the preop diet and 10 weeks since surgery, I'm down almost 75 pounds. If your BMI is over 50, you should be approved with no problems. I even heard back from my insurance company within just a couple of days. -
Sleeved on May 30th. This. Is. Different.
BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 replied to hfdwife0608's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know it is going to sound silly but get someone to pat you on the back, like if they were burping a baby. I had my sleeve done 4 weeks after I had my daughter so we were pretty good at burping a baby, when I would get one of those gas pains I'd get my husband to pat me on the back and sometimes it would help, not always but sometimes. At that point I was willing to take whatever relief I could get any way I could get it!! -

discouraged and depressed
BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 replied to Cindigzz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may want to look at the things you are eating. I am 10 weeks out now and I feel like I eat more than most people do, and I am not eating 1000 cal per day. I get in 80-100+ gm of protein in most days and I eat really low carbs (I try to keep it between 20-30 gm per day but preferably closer to 20 gm). If you are able to get that many calories in but not all of your protein I'm going to guess that you are eating more carbs/fats than you need at this point. Keep working at it, it certainly is a learing process and I am still learing everyday. You are doing great though with your weight loss. I too had a stall but mine started at 10 days out and lasted 2 1/2 weeks. Talk about drive a girl crazy! I totally know how you feel, I felt the same way and I'm sure most of us here have had the same thoughts and feelings. If you are doing what you know you should keep that up but maybe try to change it up a little. I know that when my stall started it was about the time that I was on full liquids/soft foods. I was getting in way more carbs than protein. My doc wouldn't let me start on protein until after two weeks out. Anyway, when I was able to dramatically drop my carbs and really pick up my protein my stall broke. I have had once since then too and I think I'm probably starting another one now. The key is to keep chugging along. This will work. 21 pounds is a great loss, more than I lost in my first month and I have WAY more weight to lose than you do . One other thing, try not to weigh yourself everyday. (I really suck at this part, even in a stall I weigh everyday cause I want to know when it breaks). But I have figured out that when I get on the scale and don't see it moving even when I know I'm doing everything right, I get discouraged. If I can stay away from the scale and I know that I am doing what I am supposed to then in my mind I know it is working and that makes me feel really good. I hope it will you too. When I went through my first stall my body really changed a lot even though the scale didn't. I dropped a pant size almost overnight it seemed like. And people noticed more just all of a sudden. You should measure yourself every so often so you can see how much your measurements are changing even if the scale is being stubborn. Also look for NSV's to keep your spirits up. There is way more to this journey than just what the scale tells you. Keep your head up, you've got this. I'm sure your husband thinks you are one beautiful lady, and even though what he thinks of you is important, you need to BELIEVE you are beautiful even more! Sorry, I think I'm rambling... -
Sugar.....?
BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 replied to MystiGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's called dumping. You had the classic symptoms of it. And yes, it was from the sugar. Dumping isn't as common with the sleeve as it is with bypass but it does happen and you my dear had it. -
Sugarless Chewing gum
BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 replied to mariadt's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
oooooooooo, I'm tellin!!! I chew gum, a lot. In fact, I think it may be my new transfer addiction. I have never been a gum swallower. I chew probably 3-5 pieces a day to give my mouth something to do without actually putting things into my stomach. I don't use a straw though ^^^ -
Post op blood work
BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How soon did y'all have the first blood work to check for anemia and vitamins after sugery? I am just over two months out and from what I understand (I could understand wrong though) my surgeon doesn't do blood work for a year. Just wondering if at some point in this year I should have my primary provider do some blood work. I'm really curious as to how things look on the inside! -
The easy route
BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 replied to RJ'S/beginning's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There is nothing easy about this. I still battle EVERYDAY with old habits. The difference in what you are doing and what they are doing is that when her 45 pounds have been put back on you will still be headed down down down on the scale. This IS NOT easy. Nothing about it is. It is hard work. When people ask me how I'm losing I say hard work and I've cut way back on what I'm eating, I drink more water, no more sodas and I haven't had bread or sugar since March 11. That is my answer. Some people I do tell that I have had surgery but others I don't. I could not be having the success I am having on my own, I've proven that over and over again BUT it is taking LOTS of work on my part to make it work. -

Help, Ladies! Yeast infections since surgery! OMG, TMI!
BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 commented on KristyM's blog entry in KristyM's Blog
I am having the same issue and it seems like I get one about a week before I am supposed to start. I have a GYN that will call in some diflucan anytime I need it so I'm lucy in that respect and usually one dose knocks it out completely. I know to add acidophilus but I just hadn't thought about it. I don't eat a lot of yogurt either, just trying to stay away from so many carbs. My sugar intake is ZERO so I know that is not it. I think it can also be hormonal. Good luck with getting yours better. You may want to call your GYN and see if you can get a diflucan, with in 3-5 days you should be feeling better (sorry that it's not sooner) -
Going crazy
BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 replied to Alyjourneys's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't really feel ANY restriction until recently, like maybe two-three weeks ago (I'm 9 weeks out today). I didn't even feel much restriction with soft foods. It wasn't until I got on some more dense protein that I started feeling some restriction. Even now there are days where I don't feel much restriction and days when I can't even eat a now normal amount for myself. The liquids just slide through your new tummy, once you get to add something that will sit in it for a while then you will feel some restriction. -

I am officially two months post op today (March 25 was my day)! I'm loving it! Losing weight with the sleeve is much harder than I ever imagined it would be but I KNOW that I would not be having the success that I am having without it! -

Stupid Stall!
BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 replied to Aries's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be 9 weeks out on Monday and I've had two so far. The first one I hit at 10 days out and it lasted 2 1/2 weeks, the second was at about 6 or 7 weeks and lasted another 3 1/2 weeks. I think I am finally breaking it now. I count a lot of NSV's during a stall (I can now wear both of my wedding rings again and I haven't been able to do that since last June, I'm dropping in clothes size(s), stuff like that). Also you should measure yourself. My first stall I was able to drop a pant size and the second stall that I've been in has me almost in another size smaller too. I need to measure myself again but it seems like when I'm in a stall the inches are coming off more noticably but when the scale is moving my body doesn't change as much. Keep plugging along and it will break, it is just a matter of time. To break my first stall I seriously dropped my carbs. I had been staying between 50-70 a day and I dropped it back to less than 30 but closer to 20 or less a day. Or maybe my body got adjusted and it was just time for me to start losing again, who knows. This time I haven't really changed anything, I was losing, I stalled and then started losing again. I know some people will lower or increase carbs and/or protein and will change up their exercise regimen or really increase the exercise. You just have to find what works for you. Good luck! Don't lose hope, your sleeve isn't broken, your body just has to catch up! -

You may also want to try Goodwill or resale/consignment stores in your area. I have found some really great stuff for super cheap while going down through sizes. I'm going to be in the same boat as you here shortly. Feels great, huh? -

BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 replied to aamandddaaaahunt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc has an "at least 1 year rule". Just so you know, you aren't "practically" everyone anymore. Your lifestyle HAS to be different than everyone else's or else you wasted your time, money and perfectly good stomach for nothing. You chose this time in your life, while you are still in college, to get the VSG done, are you sure you were ready for it? I have commented on a post of yours previously, I think eariler this week, and I wonder if you really know what you had done to you. Losing weight and getting healthy even with the VSG is hard and takes work. It is not a magic tool that will make the weight just go away with no effort on your part. The people on this site are here to support, help and encourage each other, not to tear people down. I'm sure you knew the kind of answers you would get when you asked about this, but you can't go getting pissy just because you don't like the answers you got. People answered you honestly. No one wants to see someone do something careless and end up with a leak or other problems. If you only want answers giving you the go ahead to do what you want to do as opposed to doing what you need to or should do, then maybe you should start your post with "If you don't agree with what I'm saying then I don't want to hear it". Just a thought. -
Anyone eating cheviche?
BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 replied to BlessedBeyondMeasure2012's topic in Food and Nutrition
And I suppose that I have been lucky. My sleeve hasn't minded anything that I have put down it be it super spicy (I eat Tobasco or some sort of hot sauce on just about EVERYTHING) and it doesn't seem to mind the acidic stuff either. Maybe it would be nice for it to be bothered by something so I am not tempted by certain things but it doesn't and I'm working on growing my will power -
I love the stuff and a girl I work with makes it. They grind everything in a meat grinder so the particles in it are super fine. It has only fish, onions, tomatoes, peppers, cilantro, carrots and cucumbers in it. Anyone see anything wrong with it? I'm hoping I'm not fooling myself!

BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 replied to BlessedBeyondMeasure2012's topic in Food and Nutrition
I'm glad so many of y'all have had it with no problems! I am 8 weeks out but my surgeon still has me on a restricted diet until at least 12 weeks out. I know most people get released to a "regular" diet at 6 weeks but my surgeon has his on guidelines that he uses. I have eaten it a few times this week and it has been great! What I had was actually made with bass and not with shrimp, and it was oh so good!!!! -
Horrible taste in mouth
BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 replied to weigh-in's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes my friends, it called ketosis. Not only do you have a bad tastes, I promise you have bad breath as well. You may have nicer people surrounding you than I did (not really, my husband gently told me to brush my teeth LOL!) but I promise the bad breath is there too. It is from not eating carbs. I stayed in ketosis with bad breath and really stinky pee until I went on full liquids and could eat soups with some carbs. I have tried to stay less than 20 gms of carbs most day but usually it is closer to 30 gms a day since surgery and I haven't had any more trouble with it. I don't know if my body finally just caught up or what but the bad taste, bad breath and stinky pee are no longer with me. It will get better, just give it time! -
I'm back to my old eating habits ;-(
BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 replied to mocanitanj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Remember that eating carbs and sugar will make you crave more carbs and sugar. Get that cycle of eating sweets (at least not sugar free stuff) broken and the cravings will get better. I am a carbaholic and a chocaholic too but I have to choose DAILY, sometimes by the minute, not to let myself fall down those paths again. You can do it!
