Is The Liquid Diet Easier Postop?
TMyers1471 replied to skinnycupcake13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here! I am 7 weeks post op and NEVER hungry. The liquids are more tolerable post op because you don't feel like eating. However...it is hard to get them all in sometimes. Try your best and your recovery will be that much faster. -
Still Suffering..and A Little Scared?!?! *bowel Issues*
TMyers1471 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all. I am on day 10 of basically NO bowel movement at all. I was told to go to the ER 3 days ago. After an embarrassing rectal exam, they said there was nothing "down there." They did an x-ray and said they did not see any blockages and sent me on my way with colace. I've already tried colace, Milk of Mag, Miralax, Fiber, several enemas, Water, moving, you name it. All I consume is Protein. My surgery was on the 21st of May. I AM eating. I am SO FULL. I can hardly eat, let alone drink my protein. My weight loss has nearly halted. Nothing is moving. I've already posted about this once, and it's getting worse. Has anyone else experienced constipation to this degree???? -

I Am Ashamed/embarassed
TMyers1471 replied to Texarkolina's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going to be HONEST here because honesty is what works best for me. If you can't make it through one day of your pre-op diet, are you sure you are ready??? The reason I ask is because after the surgery, you can get seriously ill by cheating. I was on a liquid diet pre and post op for 3 weeks straight. It sucked. I was a sugar and caffeine addict, and, just like a junkie, I went through withdrawls. I had horrible tremors and felt dizzy a lot, but the doctor assured me it would pass as my body adjusted...and it did. I know it is hard. I think that you should be honest with your doctor. He is setting up a big surgery and treatment plan for you with the assumption that you are following his orders. Don't beat yourself up. You did it...it's over....tell your doctor...and resolve to follow the rules from here on out. I would hate to see you put your recovery at risk if you can't handle the pre and post op rules. Take care and kudos to you for your honesty. -
I have never heard of that. I got a blood thinner shot in my stomach right before I went in to surgery and every day I was in the hospital after surgery. I was sent home with liquid pain meds. What is their reasoning for the bags???

Be Honest Peeps When Was The First Time You Tried Carne Asada After Surgery?
TMyers1471 replied to Karen2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a friend who tried mexican food a week post op, and she vomitted for two days straight. Please do not jeopardize your health for food. Follow the rules. Trust me...I know it isn't easy. You will have a lifetime to eat these tacos once your stomach heals. Don't risk it this early. This too shall pass. -
Excited! Nervous! Getting Sleeved July 3Rd
TMyers1471 replied to priscillajoy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My best advice to you is to get signed up for some sort of post op therapy/counseling. Food addiction is no joke. I am 6 weeks post op, and the emotional part has been the worst part. I literally feel like my best friend died (aka: food). I am so proud of you for taking this step in your life. You won't regret it. Is it easy? No way! Worth it? Absolutely. I have lost 39 pounds in 6 weeks and am already off my hypertension medicine. My bp is now a healthy and stable 118/70. It hasn't been that low in years. My food addiction was killing me, and I have a whole new lease on life. -
Help Me Find A Protein Supplement That I Like!

The yogurt one sounds good, but, being only 6 weeks post op, I couldn't eat a cup of anything if I tried. lol -
Help Me Find A Protein Supplement That I Like!

How much protein is in the nectar? I've heard good things about the Premier. Looks like I will be making a trip to Sam's tomorrow. -
Hey all. I am 6 weeks post op, and I am SO tired all the time. I want to start adding exercise, but I am exhausted. I have a feeling it has to do with the amount of food I eat. I can only tolerate an ounce of food at a time (2 ounces on a good day). I am taking my multi-vitamins and drinking lots of water. What is going on? Any suggestions?

I am almost on a normal diet at this point. Quite frankly, I'm happy to be done "drinking" my calories. lol. They were not going down very well.

Drink out of a straw? Eat regular foods? I mean...I NEVER want to be a compulsive over-eater again, and I have not cheated once since my surgery (May 21st), but I was just wondering, for example, let's say I want two french fries one day. Will it make me sick? Have caffeine? I know my pop days are over. I can deal with that. However, I like my coffee in the morning. I don't go overboard. I usually drink 1 cup. Decaf coffee is gross. I want my one cup of coffee with my tablespoon of vanilla creamer again. Is that too much to ask? Is sugar off limits forever??? What about alcohol? Beer, wine, mixed drink? Anything? Will I EVER have to stop obssessing about getting in my required Protein??? Will there ever be a time that I can get my protein from food rather than these damn Protein shakes. Right now I'm on lean meats, yogurt, cheese, etc...but I can only tolerate an ounce of food at a time, so the protein I get from these foods is very small and I still have to supplement with shakes.

Magnesium Citrate
TMyers1471 replied to Imperfectlyperfect's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes. I would get faint...especially when it started working. I would lay a cool cloth across the back of my neck, close my eyes, and do some deep breathing. That usually did the trick. -
Magnesium Citrate
TMyers1471 replied to Imperfectlyperfect's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It takes a while for it to work, but when it does, stay near the bathroom. Everyone responds to it differently, but it will work. Read a book, listen to some music, and just try to take your mind off from it. Your body will let you know when it's time to go. -
Im So Scared To Do This!
TMyers1471 replied to JentryB2020's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am 5 1/2 weeks post op. I'm transitioning to a regular diet. I have NEVER thrown up. I follow the rules. My best friend has the lap band and throws up all the time. She wishes the sleeve would have been an option for her. I am never sick and I have lost twice the amount of weight she did in the first six weeks (35 lbs. in 5.5 weeks). Being nervous is normal, but you will love the sleeve. -
One Of Those Days I Just Don't Want To Eat...
TMyers1471 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all. I'm 5 1/2 weeks post op. There are days when I just don't feel like eating. They are very far and few in between, and I usually get all my nutrition in on the other days. Does anyone else have those days? Is it ok to just go with the feeling and not eat as long as I get my fluids in. I feel like if I eat, I will get sick. -
My gas pain was the WORST part. It lasted for 1 1/2 weeks post op. I thought it would never go away. Mine settled in my lower ribs and sometimes my left shoulder. I would call your doctor to be sure. Good luck. "This too shall pass" has become my mantra.

New to the group. I was sleeved on May 21st, 2012 by Dr. Jon Schram out of Holland. AMAZING man and AMAZING staff!

Doesn't the magnesium citrate have carbonation? Also, there is no way I could drink the entire bottle with my fancy "smaller" stomach. -
Hi everyone, My NUT told me that I need to choose Protein powder that is whey based. That limits my options for Protein shakes tremendously. Plus, I am a fan of Herbalife protein shakes, which is soy based protein. I'm just wondering if any of you get your protein in through soy based products? I don't break the rules, but this seems like such a minor detail to me. If I'm getting my protein in...what does it matter if it's whey or soy? Thanks!!!

I can't tell you WHY that happened, but I can tell you that I get faint a LOT since the surgery. I know how scary it is.

Any Creative Ideas?
TMyers1471 replied to joeychris's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some days you will be able to get it all in, and some days you wont. All you can do is try. I had my surgery on May 21st, and I still have days where it is tough to get it all in. I have learned not to freak out about it. I have to tell you that Vitamin Water Zero is my new "water." No sodium. No sugar. No calories. Tastes great, and my doctor said I can count that as water. By the way...I STILL haven't got my appetite back. I'm just never hungry, but I force myself to eat Protein every two hours, even if I can only get an ounce down. You will get really weak if you don't.
