5 Days Post Op-Large Purple "bruise"-No Pain
TMyers1471 replied to Shape_Shifter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got bruises like that, but mine were the result of blood thinner shots they gave me before and after surgery. -
5 Days Post Op And Down :(
TMyers1471 replied to ebthompson2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome to the club my friend. Everything you are experiencing is SO normal. Most all of us were/are food addicts. My first 6 weeks were heartbreaking and emotional. I questioned what I had done. Now it doesn't bother me so much. We save so much money. My boyfriend and I went to a jazz festival this weekend. The food looked fantastic, and I wanted ALL of it. Instead, my boyfriend ordered a pulled pork salad and a greek salad. I grabbed a fork..took two bites of the pork (no bread) and a few bites of the greek salad and I was TOTALLY satisfied. Who would have ever thought that this food addict would start seeing eating as a CHORE now. Just like you slowly became a food addict, you will slowly learn to live your life with very little food and it won't bother you. Hang in there. It gets easier with time. -
YES! And it will happen more than once. I have that same problem with eating too. One day I will be able to eat and get all my water in. The next day I have to supplement with protein shakes because I just can't eat.

I'm getting tired of the same ol' Snacks and mini meals. I currently use Emily Bites recipes and eat a lot of yogurt, shaved meets, canned meats, cheeses, etc. Anyone have any new ideas for the salt lover in me? On the go ideas would be great too. I can only have nuts 1-2 times per week. Thank you in advance.

I was sleeved on May 21st. I am off all food restrictions. I really need to eat more than I do. A couple of small spoonfuls of something, and I am BEYOND full. I don't want to live the rest of my life on supplemental protein shakes. When I eat...it makes me feel just ugh. Not sick..just the feeling of...I would rather not eat again for the rest of the day. Will I be able to tolerate more food as time passes? Or are there any tricks to help me get in a little more food? I eat healthy and follow all the rules.

I tried every shake/powder out there, and Premier has been my fave. No nasty aftertaste. There are chocolate and vanilla where I buy them, but I heard there is a strawberry flavor too. Each shake has 30 g of whey protein...that is the best part.

Praying for you. Being scared is normal, but once you wake up and heal...you will find it to be the best decision you have ever made. Here is to a healthy new YOU!!!!!!

Grocery Store Melt Down..
TMyers1471 replied to jhbk2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes Yes Yes!! I am 12 weeks out and STILL struggle at times. I literally felt like I have mourned the lost of my very best friend. Eventually you will be able to have most anything, but odds are, you won't want to once that weight starts falling off and you start feeling like a million bucks. The liquid stage is the toughest, and once you start adding foods, you won't feel so restricted. Hang in there!!! -
Premier shakes. I buy mine at Sam's Club.

When Can I Have A Beer?
TMyers1471 replied to TMyers1471's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Thank you. I'm well aware it is empty calories. I never drink a beer because of the health benefits, and, like I said, I was not a big drinker to begin with. I follow all the rules. What about a small glass of wine? Anyone tried that?? -
I've never tried edamame. What does it taste like? Salty? I love salt. lol
-
Where do you find dry roasted edamame in the grocery store?

Not Looking Forward To The Attention!
TMyers1471 replied to carolc's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was having the same fears, but, surprisingly, I LOVE the attention because I am learning to love ME!!!! -
I agree with UTGal99. For me, I was a smoker before surgery. I still smoke once or twice a day, but I intend on quitting. It is bad for me and I am trying to change my life. I haven't quit right now because I am having such a hard time mourning the loss of food and pop. Now isn't a good time for me to take away nicotine. However, once I get my mind right and adjust to my new lifestyle, those nasty things will be GONE! I don't care if my weight loss slows because I don't smoke. It will add more years to my life.

How Many Of You Felt That You Have Been Diluted About What You Actually Look Like Through Out The Years?
TMyers1471 replied to Beebaby813's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here. I have lost almost 50 lbs and I just don't SEE it. I still see the same 244 lb fat person in the mirror. Everyone else notices, but I don't. My clothes are hanging off me. It is baffling. I think that I was always in denial about how BIG I acutally was. -
I was sleeved on May 21st. I'm pretty much off all food restrictions. I noticed that turkey kielbasa or sausage isn't too high in fat and has higher protein. Has anyone tried either one? Was it hard on the stomach? Did you take the skin off?

Congrats! I myself just reached onederland and I was overjoyed! Nice work.

Seem To Be Stuck On My Weight :-(
TMyers1471 replied to AnewG2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To me, it felt like that feeling I got before surgery when I binged on food. Just bloated and uncomfortable. However, broth is liquid, so it really doesn't count as food and you can sip on it all day without feeling full. Once you introduce purees, mushies, etc. you should experience the "full" feeling more. You will know. Trust me. Eating has become a chore now. lol. -
My first piece of advice is to stay away from any "horror stories." Only look at success stories. I was sleeved on May 21st. It has changed my life in so many ways in such a short time. I am off all blood pressure and acid reflux medicine. I am only 2 lbs. away from a 50 lb weight loss. Post op recovery was easier than I thought. The more you walk, the better you will feel. Here is a quick fact I learned before I went in for surgery (and I was very nervous like you). Weight loss surgeries are so common now, that they are considered safer than having your appendix removed. Also, I was freaked out that I was going to die. My therapist said, at the weight you are at you are going to die, so getting this surgery isn't that big of a risk is it???? Wow! Good point. Focus on the good, pray a lot, and trust your body to heal and transform. Good luck!!!

Seem To Be Stuck On My Weight :-(
TMyers1471 replied to AnewG2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The more protein you get, the faster you heal, and the faster your body can burn fat. Stalls in weight loss are very common. I have experienced weeks where I don't lose a pound, and weeks (like this week) where I'm losing 1 lb-1.5 lbs. a DAY! Hang in there. This too shall pass. But please get that protein in. Your body needs it. I hated the shakes too until I found one pre-made shake that I like that is packed with 30 g of protein in one shake. I make myself drink one every morning and get the rest of my protein from food. -
What meds are you taking? My post op pain meds were available in liquid form.
-
Keep up the great work. It is always great to see people who add healthy lifestyle changes and don't rely on the sleeve to be the "magic solution." Way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
What prior abdominal surgery did you have that would make him fear complications? (If it is not too personal of a question)

What Do You Have For Foods And Drinks Daily? I Need Ideas Im Cleared Off For Regular Foods.
TMyers1471 replied to Karen2012's topic in Food and Nutrition
I drink my Premier Protein shake every morning for breakfast because it packs a whopping 30 g of Protein. I try to eat something small every two hours or so for the rest of the day. For my mini meals, I eat "cupcake" recipes from emilybites.com. I also buy low sodium ham, I put a wedge of Laughing Cow swiss cheese on the ham, add a sanwich stacker pickle, a dab of mustard, and throw it in a hot skillet for a few minutes on each side so it melts the cheese. SO GOOD..low calorie and high in protein. Greek yogurt. Hard bolied eggs. Tuna. I buy roasted chicken and tear it apart. I eat that plain, or add it to a small amount of greens and make a mini ceasar salad. These are just a few. For drinks, I have a 24 oz insulated cup. I drink ice Water from it all day and make sure I drink three cups a day. -
The Beginning Of My Journey And Already Problems.
TMyers1471 replied to Mrs. T's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are a good patient Silly Phylly. I would have made it my goal to gain enough weight to push me over 40. lol. You weren't that far off. What a crock. I'm sure that you, like the rest of us, have tried enough dieting to make up for half a lifetime. Good luck to you. And Mrs T....deep breath in and repeat this mantra...it DOES get better!!!!
