    Surgeons in North Carolina

I was sleeved on May 25th, 2012 by Dr. Roc Bauman in Concord, NC (he is in practice with Dr Villeneuva). He was a general surgeon before years before he specialized in bariatric surgery. I really like him and the staff at his office! The hospital that he admits to is CMC-Northeast. Their staff and nurses are second to none! I was admitted for two days and never had any complications! One really helpful thing he requires is that you see a nutritionist once a month or a year following surgery! I started out at 229lbs and am currently at 146lbs! Goal is 135!! I would highly recommend Dr. Bauman!

    A Few Questions.

I found the first two weeks to be the most difficult to get in all my fluids and protein. (Sleeve date 5/25). When I saw my Dr at a week out I explained this to him and he wasn't concerned. Your stomach is still healing. You still have a lot of swelling. Sugar free popsicles were good for me. And just remember to sip. Your protein drinks count towards your fluid intake too! Good luck to you. I felt miserable at about 4-5 days out but then it did get better. I still have bad days every now and then but overall I am so happy with my decision! I hope you are too!

    May Sleeve Buddies!

I will be two weeks out on Friday. Highest weight pre op was 229...218 day of surgery ...233 when I came home....207 this am. Talked to my nutritionist today and she said to expect to lose about 10 lbs a month. I would love to prove her wrong!
  5. I was also sleeved on the 25th. About 4 days out I broke down and tried some cottage cheese. I did this because for some reason that day, I could not tolerate any more protein shakes or broth. The thought of them made me sick. Those small few bites made all the difference in the world! The next day I felt much better!

Spasms And Pain Since Day 1

Sounds like acid reflux. Are you on a daily acid reducer like Nexium or Prilosec ? I would definitely call your Dr.
  7. I use the IUD Mirena and love it. I tried the depo shot after my second child and I HATED it!!!!!!!!! I had started to lose the weight from the pregnancy and as soon as I got the shot,I stopped losing and I gained 20 lbs!
  8. I think I have watched more Food Network now than I ever did before the sleeve. Call me crazy! I am still very early on in my recovery....I am only 10 day post op but I love watching it! I really don't have the desire to eat right now. Some things smell and look good but food just isn't very appealing. I am very sure that this will change and fairly quickly, but I will take advantage of it now. I am -21 lbs now, down 11 preop and -10 Postop, 79 to go.

    Feeling Miserable

I was sleeved on the 25th and two days ago, I too was miserable and questioned my decision. I was having a hard time getting my protein shakes down and even water tasted weird. I finally decided to try some cottage cheese just to get something in my system. I only ate a few bites and mushed it up really good. Let me tell you, I felt so much better. Yesterday I decided to try making my protein shakes with water and ice instead of milk and fruit (they were too sickly sweet). It was so much better. I used one scoop of my vanilla protein powder, 1/2 cup water plus a cup of ice, and a little bit of vanilla. It tastes like snow cream. Not too sweet. Tomorrow I am going to try a chocolate one. Good luck to you! Thoughts and prayers go out to us all!
  10. Felt pretty good when I came home from the hospital on Sunday. Yesterday was an ok day. I was able to get in about half of my protein and most of my fluids. I had one episode of nausea, but never threw up. Today has been a big struggle. I have had a really hard time getting anything down. All the protein shakes now taste sickly sweet and water tastes funny too. I tried the unjury chicken soup and felt awful after eating that. Thankfully I am not feeling hungry but I know I need some nutrients. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  11. Did better yesterday by eating just a few ozs of cottage cheese. Then today I tried making up my protein shake with water and crushed ice instead of with milk and fruit. Much better...not nearly as sweet. Plus that gave me a third of my protein requirement. I am still taking the nexium but I haven't had any acid reflux yet. Tomorrow is my one week post op appt with my Dr. Hopefully the scales will have moved down again. I was 218 right before surgery and came home from the hospital at 233. (Dang fluid). I weighed this am at it was 212. I will be so glad when I make it back into the 100's!!!!!
  12. I have to admit that I cheated today. I just couldn't drink any more shakes. Everything tastes so sickly sweet, I just can't stand it. So, I decided to try some cottage cheese. I didn't eat much, only 2-3oz, but I felt so much better after I got something in my system. It tasted so good and didn't hurt my stomach at all. This may be my new staple! One good bit of news today is that I finally lost all of the water weight I gained in the hospital. Now to start on the real weight loss! Can't wait!
  13. Has my surgery yesterday at 12:30 in Concord, NC. I feel pretty good right now. Moderate pain just above my belly button. Unfortunately they just weighed me and I was up 10 lbs from yesterday right before surgery. I know this is a lot of water weight, leg compression pads, etc.....but still. Walked some last night and it felt pretty good. The biggest pain is not being allowed to drink anything yet. My mouth is so dry and pasty. They did give me some mouth swabs so I can swab with a little water. All in all, so far so good! Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers!

    It Is Done!

Thanks everyone.... I am home from the hospital now and am feeling pretty good. I am still a little sore but not bad. I also am so relieved that I haven't had any gas pains that so many people wrote about. I am still retaining a lot of fluid so my weight is still up. I hope that being up more and being more active will help that. I am tolerating water/crystal light better and had some chicken broth last night that tasted very good. I am going to start on the protein shakes today and see how that goes.
  15. I am on my way to the hospital... 12:25 surgery time. Wish me luck and send some prayers my way! Nervous but excited to let the skinny me out!

    On My Way

Newfounldove.....yes I do have a newfie. She is a 10 month old landseer named Maggie Mae. My first newfie was an all black male named Tonka. He passed away at 14 1/2 yrs old. I am going to have to recover quickly so that she and I can continue our CGC class. She isn't huge yet but she is extremely strong. One of these days, she will probably weigh more than me. (I hope so anyway!)

    On My Way

Had my surgery yesterday and everything went well. I was able to start drinking water today and I was able to get a few ozs of protein drink down. I will be staying another night in the hospital to make sure I don't get dehydrated. All in all I feel pretty good. I am sore in my abdomen but nothing unbearable. I haven't been sick at all and haven't had much gas either so I guess that's good. I am tired but not exhausted. I am so looking forward to start losing my weight. This skinny girl has been cooped up way too long!!!

    May Sleeve!

May25th here. I start my all liquid diet tomorrow! Then it is off to the hospital for a 12:25 surgery on Friday. I am excited but very nervous. I am soooooooo looking forward to the weight loss though!!!! Skinny jeans...here I come!
  19. Two days until my sleeve! I am nervous but anxious to get it over with. Tomorrow is my liquid only day. Surgery at 12:30 on Friday.
  20. I originally was only going to tell my husband, mom and my supervisor at work. I completed all of my initial testing and Dr's visits without anyone else knowing. I finally told my co-workers (we work at the hospital where I am having surgery) because I knew they would find out anyway. They have been very supportive and told me if it worked well that maybe some of them would consider it. My husband told his mother and then she told his sister....my sister knows know too. I am not ashamed of having the surgery, I just wasn't wanting the whole world to know. But "KNOWING" that I will be successful, I really don't care anymore. By the way, I am less than a week out from having surgery! May 25th is the day!

  22. This time next week I will be a changed woman! My surgery is scheduled for 12:25 next Friday. I am excited and scared but ready to get started on the new me. I have struggled with my weight my whole life. There were a couple of periods in my life that my weight was normal but they were few and far between. I could always lose weight but could never keep it off for long. I lost about 30 lbs after my first child was born but even though I looked better, I was still overweight. Then I got pregnant with my second child and after I had her, I never could lose the weight. I have slowly gained even more weight to top out at my highest weight ever at 225. I am only 5'3 but fortunately I have been able to hide my weight somewhat. No one believes that I really weigh that but the scales don't lie! I spoke to my Dr at my last pre-op appt and I asked him what a reasonable goal for me would be. He asked me what I wanted to get down to. I told him that I would love to get back to my high school weight (118 lbs) but that I would be happy with 140 (since I am pushing 40 and I have had two kids since then). He told me that this surgery is a tool and how I choose to use that tool is up to me. He said also that he didn't know any reason why I couldn't lose 100lbs. I was very encouraged by this! I am so ready to start this weight loss journey! I found this forum a week ago and it has been so helpful. I have found a "weight loss buddy" who is having surgery a week after me by the same surgeon in Concord, NC. We actually met this week when she came to the hospital for her pre-op. I know I have just found a friend for life! Thanks to everyone for words of encouragement and thoughts and prayers! I need all I can get!
