    No Appetite!

I am ten days post-op and have no appetite. I have no gas or pain or nausea, but can actually forget to eat. Is this common?

    March 2007 Bandsters

Welcome! Like you, I obsess about everything. In my case, it is because I am a nurse and far too aware of all the possible complications. I had surgery on the 2nd and am feeling great. I have lost 9 pounds so far. I am among those with some constriction already. I felt it yesterday when I tried to eat something that was barely pureed (I am on a full liquid diet still). I feel great most of the time and have a great energy level. Like you, I have failed too many times to not be a bit anxious and skeptical. But, it is working.

:omg: Thanks for the words of warning. I was tempted today to do the same thing, but luckily I am still only on full liquid diet and barely tolerating it. I had the same urge, though, to eat a nice quarter pounder. I am actually tolerating 4-5 ounces of fluids at a time, a big relief from the 1 ounce at a time of post-op. Just a few bites of low-fat frozen yogurt did me in.
  7. I was profoundly tired! I do not remember much pain, but i just remember wanting to sleep! After 12 hours, that was better.
  8. I do understand how you are feeling. I think one of the commonalities for many of us is low self-esteem. This is not the easy way out. I am now five days post-op, feel very good, but am facing a new world; that of new diet rules and new goals. I am more focused than I have been in years. I think of the lap band as a tool to help me regain my life. Lap band is not magic, but it is the FIRST step. And yes, some people will judge you if they find out, but aren't they the same people who have judged you for being fat, the same people who judge everyone around them. Tell who you chose and forget the rest.

Actually, my son had thrush at 17 months and it was so painful that he quit using a baby bottle and never wanted one again. Thrush is not uncommon if you have had antibiotics. They kill the good bacteria (including in the mouth) as well as bad bacteria. Then, other things can grow in the mouth...thrush. Hang in there, give the meds 24-48 hours.

    Nodule on thyroid gland????

First, take a deep breath. Second, consult your doctor about your worries. As a nurse, I am often confused when people will pose these anxieties to strangers, but not to their health care professionals. IF you do not get answers, persist. There are both benign and malignant thyroid growths. The malignant have an excellent cure rate. The benign are by definition benign. You will probably get information from people about their personal experiances, but I encourage you to to filter this information. Go back to your doctor, make an appointment to talk about your situtation and your concerns.

Hi! I am four days post-op and frankly, I feel great. I had little pain and am back to work. My one problem is that because my stomach will tolerate such small amounts of fluid,15-30cc, I have to constantly be concerned about dehydration. I am keeping a log of my fluid intake. I used to be someone who drank large amounts of fluids constantly, now I can't. As a Diet Pepsi addict, I am shocked at how uninteresting it is all of a sudden. I think that is because of the perpetual sense of fullness that I have. I am finding water and fitness water great substitutes, even at an ounce at a time. How are all the rest of the March bandsters?

As I nurse, I can tell you that posters are correct. Nailbeds are a good sign of oxygen perfusion. You may wear clear nail polish, although some hospitals may ask you to remove even that. Save the polish for the new improved you!!

Hey All, I am scheduled for March 2, 2007. Right now, head is spinning and I am coming up with all sorts of reasons not to go through with the surgery, including " how will I look at a normal weight". Luckily, my brain is stronger than my emotions and lets face it, I know how I look at this weight. Would appreciate some prayers, I have no support from family. Annalee
