  1. It was a urinary tract infection due to being dehydrated. Spent 10 days on a nasty liquid antibiotic, but otherwise have had no problems since.
  2. I am ten days out and have had an unusually easy recovery. No pain, no nausea. No problems getting fluid down. I have one incision that is a little red, so I decided to start taking my temp. I sent a pic to the Dr.'s office and they said it didn't look infected.Fine last night, this morning 99.9, now 100.9. No pain, just a tiny headache, fever and chills and very tired. My Doctor's office told me to go to the ER. My ears feel a little stopped up, but I don't even feel bad. Heading to the ER and praying it's the flu or an ear infection. lol

    Antibiotics

I had an ear infection at two weeks out and was on liquid bactrim for ten days. I was nauseous the entire time though I never threw up. I think I would crush the pill or disolve it- did you ask your surgeon about it? I think I would have done better on a pill, the taste and smell about killed me! Eat something easy on your stomach before taking it- maybe some pudding or cream of wheat. I can see where a hard boiled egg would be hard to keep down. Also, my Dr had me double up on my PPI- a morning dose and an evening dose. Hang in there!
  4. I found the page, but it didn't look closed or private. I am just not ready to "come out" on FB. lol
  5. I was sleeved on the 28th too! That must have been a popular date! Yay February Sleevers!!!

Leak Test Nastiness- Will This Help?

I had two different leak tests- the purple stuff and barium. I didn't think either one was that bad. I was expecting it to be way worse.

    Fever

I went to the ER last night. Didn't have the flu, but may now after spending four hours with all of those sick people! I had a UTI, an ear infection and was a bit dehydrated. They gave me a bag of fluids and some liquid antibiotics. I was so relieved. Apparently, I haven't been sipping enough. WCM- I have been pretty hungry too. Yesterday was the first day I didn't care anything about food, but that was due to the fever and chills. I've though the same thing about my restriction. I can drink way too much at a time- probably 4-5 oz in 15 min. How long do we sip the 2 oz per 15 min? Sometimes I just forget. Plain Water goes down slower but broth and juice go down so easily. Today is a much better day! Thanks for all of your responses!

    Fever

Well today- I woke up with a fever of 99.9. First one since surgery. One of my incisions looks kinda pink so I am a little worried. I emailed Gaby with a picture. Windycitymom, have you had any more fever? Ugh.
  11. I hope after I lose this weight, I will be able to use this information.

    The Burning!

I was having alot of burning too. (I am 8 days out). I was told to take the PPI (I'm on nexium) with Water in the morning on an empty stomach, then another dose two hours before bed with nothing to eat or drink afterwards. I was told NOT to use Tums as it would create more acid. I have not had any problems since I added the evening dose.
  13. I just got back from being sleeved with Dr. Aceves last week. I am sure they will work with you on the date. Can you just tell your work you are having a minor surgery without giving them all of the details? Your PCP sounds a little uninformed. I wouldn't waste my time trying to persuade her about Dr. Aceves' credentials. I recently started going to a new PCP. He was very accepting of my going to Mexico to have the surgery and agreed to follow me afterwards. I am sure you can find someone who is a little more forward-thinking. I was very impressed with Dr. Aceves, his staff and the hospital. Do what you need to do to get healthy!!!
  14. I just got in from my trip to Mexicali and I can only say I am amazed at how easy this was. I was sleeved by Dr. Aceves on February 28th. I am 57 years old and figured it would be rough because I hate pain and can be a bit of a baby. I expected the worse. I have had no nausea, no real pain- just discomfort, and have felt pretty good under the circumstances. The worst part was the trip home because I am not a big fan of flying. lol All of the overly positive comments I had read about Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos, the Hospital Almater- it was all true. It was a great experience. I especially want to thank the other patients that I shared the experience with. I hope to keep in touch with you all! I am really excited about moving forward in this journey. The best is yet to come! Oh, and another round of thanks to everyone on this message board who have posted their stories and questions. This helped me immensely through the process! Thanks to all and best wishes!

    Clear Liquid Diet

Today I made a warm spiced apple juice- added cinnamon sticks, cloves, whole allspice. Cooked it about 15 minutes on low heat and strained it. I am on my 7th day of clears and so ready for the next phase!!!

    Where are the 50s ???

I am 57 and just sleeved last Tuesday. I had no problems- no pain or nausea. I am getting my fluids in fine and can't believe how easy this has been. I have lost weight so many times, only to gain back double. I am so looking forward to turning back time and feeling 40 instead of 70!!!
  17. I had the epidural and it made a big difference. The anestheisologist was not sure if he would be able to, due to some curvature in my back, but he was able to. I was given a "happy pill", wheeled back to the surgery room and the next thing I remember was waking up in recovery! Several of the girls that were there at the same time did not get epidurals and they were in a little pain the next day, but nothing drastic. You get pain meds so once the effect of the epidural wore off, I had some discomfort but it was quickly relieved by the meds. I had one with my C section as well, many many moons ago. They make sure you are as comfortable as possible. Take a heating pad- I think that helped me alot!!!
  18. I did not have a revision- just a sleeve. I slept alot in the hospital, visited with the other patients, took my computer and played facebook games and emailed people. Spent alot of time sipping and walking. The time passed quickly. I was kind of sad to leave. It was like a mini vacation and everyone was so nice. I work two jobs so laying around is a treat for me and as I said, I never really felt bad. You will love Dr. Aceves.
  19. I am sorry you are having a rough patch. Do you have a heating pad? That helped me immensely.

    One Day Til My Sleeve!

Yay for us!!!!! I'm right there with y'all. My surgery is Tuesday and I am finally more excited than nervous. I went shopping for supplies, etc. today and now every sales clerk in a 10 mile radius knows about my surgery. lol Sending good wishes to everyone.
  21. Starlet, Thanks for your post. I too will be heading to Dr. Aceves next week. Even though I have read hundreds of extremely positive posts about him and felt I would be in good hands, again today the nerves started creeping back in. It helped so much to have a recent first hand account. I so appreciate you including how much the extra meds cost and other details. I hope you won't mind if I make a copy of your post to give to my mother who is worrying about the whole thing. She is not going with me but I think it would help to set her mind at ease.

    Sorry I Have Been Distracted...

I am so sorry you and your family are going through this. You have been such an inspiration to me and many others. Please take care of yourself and know that there are many prayers being sent your way!
  23. Windy City Mom- I thought you already scheduled your surgery. Isn't your surgery the day before mine with Dr. Aceves? You made an excellent choice of Doctor based on my extensive research- no need to start second guessing your choice now! Been there, done that. Are you getting nervous? I will pm you my phone number if you want to talk.
  24. windycitymom- I will be there on the 27th for pre-op tests and surgery on the 28th. I am so excited that someone else will be there the same time as me!

No Coffee + Preop Diet = Headache

I decided to go ahead and stop the caffiene cold turkey this week, even though my surgery isn't until the end of the month. I did not want to suffer through the pre-op diet battling withdrawal symptoms. I am- (was)- a major caffiene addict! The first three days were torture- massive headache, nausea and fatigue. The fourth day, I woke up with no headache and was suprisingly alert. I have felt better the last two days than I have felt in years. Who knew? I think I can do without the coffee and Coke, but I am worried about no BC powders- but hey- I may not need them anymore. I am truly shocked at how good I feel and my energy level. Y'all can do this!!!!!!!
