Are You Happy With Your Decision To Have The Surgery?
kristikay posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have been on the pre surgery diet for over two months. I am curious if anyone wishes they didn't have the surgery or if they would have done anything different. I am still trying to decide what to do and haven't gotten much support for having the surgery from my family or friends. -
I had the gastric sleeve surgery in 2013 and in the past few months I have gotten way off track and started to gain weight back. I am afraid I have stretched my sleeve and am wondering if anyone else has been able to come back from this situation and get restriction again. I just let myself get out of control and want to get it back. Is it to late or is there something I can do at this point?

7mo post op...I need help
kristikay replied to throwaway557's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am struggling too. I have messed up and hated myself for it. I had negative thinking were I was calling myself an idiot daily if not hourly. It is easier to eat wrong and eat way to much, than I thought it would be. I have decided to regroup and go back to MFP to start tracking, it is the only thing that works for me. I think that you need to do the same thing, forgive yourself and move on...You need a plan and it won't be easy. Use some of the ideas people have given you and sit down and come up with some go to meals. I have to do the same thing. I started back following the rules and have already lost 2 of the pounds I gained back. You can give in to the excuses or decide you want it bad enough and make it happen, I hope that I am making it happen. I am a year out and the day I went back to eating correctly my sleeve went back to giving me good restricition. -
This is my first day on this cite. I had been following and posting on the lap band cite but when I had my consultation at the bariatric center at the hospital I found out they were not real positive about the lap band and really suggest the gastric bypass. After talking to the nurse and doctor I no longer want the lap band and am now on the way to gastric bypass. I had been so focused on the lap band I don't know a lot about gastric bypass. The one big difference is that the friends and family I confided in about the lap band surgery were very supportive but when I say I am now thinking about gastric bypass they are not supportive at all. I am approved for the surgery and and am on a six month medically supervised diet required by my insurance. I quess evryone knows alot of people that gastric bypass has not worked or made their life worse. It is good to be on here and see the succeses.

Are There Different Types Of Sleeve Surgeries?
kristikay posted a topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Hi, I have been reading alot of posts and blogs and am wondering i there is ore thatn one type of sleeve surgery? When I started this journey i was thnking about lap band surgery but it is not favored by my surgeon although he said he would perform the surgery if that was what I decided I wanted. We mainly talked about Gastric Bypass. The other two people I had my meetings with werevery heavy and in bad health so the surgeon recommended sleeve surgery for them. I have been doing alot of research on this site and other places and am thinking I would rather have the sleeve surgery. The one my surgeon had talked about removed about 75% of your stomach. is this the kind of surgery that plication refers to? Thanks, Kristi -
weight gain 7 months out and falling off the wagon, help!
kristikay posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had a busy, wonderful, stressful summer that I let become an excuse for going beck to some bad coping behaviors. Of course the coping behaviors involved going some horrible eating habits. I had lost about 57 pounds and have gained back about 5. I am evaluating what I need to do to get back on track and this seemed a good place to start. Still love my sleeve and am so grateful for the weight I have lost but it is time to get myself going again, still have a long way to go to be where I want to be. Any advice or encouragement is welcome! I know there are lots of people that have had great success on this forum! -

clothing exchange prices for clothes and shipping
kristikay replied to Tink22-sleeve's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
What I have been told in regard to pricing for garage sale is if the item is in good shape price it at a fourth of original price. So you paid $40 you would ask $10, I have some clothes I would like to sell also. It would be nice to get a little money to put toward the new clothes, right? -
nine months post op and living life!

What an amazing transformation! Congratulations on your hard work and commitment! -
Thanks for your words of wisdom. It is good advise. I sometimes wonder if I have the restriction others have because I think I am eating more than I should be able to without pain or getting sick. That's why i was curious about how much you can eat and how you know when to stop.

Anybody regretted it, even with no complications?
kristikay replied to musiclover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had some regrets after the surgery during that first month when I was literally morning the loss of food. I then started feeling better and able to eat more and was feeling much more positive when I was hit with an episode of cluster headaches which I had not had for 18 years . They are also called suicide headaches. I think the reoccurence had to be related to the surgery and/or weight loss. I have asked myself many times if I knew the headaches would come back would I do the surgery again and it would be probably not but I can not undue it so I refuse to regret it. I am getting some relief from my headaches and hope I can get the drive back to make the most of my sleeve. -
This topic made me chuckle because I eat stuff too. I am trying to stick to the high protein low carb diet as much as I can but if I didn't have a treat once and awhile I would go crazy. I love that the sleeve keeps you from going overboard and I can eat one thing and be satisfied instead of the whole box or package!

How do you gauge how much to eat? Do you have a certain volume or calories you use to limit yourself? I am just wondering what the best way is to not go over the line. I am not having to much of a problem but would like to be able to figure out how to stop before the discomfort, It is challenging and my first advice to myself is to eat slower, I seem to think I should eat like I did before surgery.

3wks post op and standing in wedding in 8mos!
kristikay replied to ShannFlo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My daughter is getting married in June and I have been putting ff getting my dress until I am closer to my goal weight. Of course that is a little easier to put off than ordering a bridesmaid dress. I think mooregirl has the best idea. See when the latest you can order and put it off as long as you can. Eight months out seems like a really long time out but you probably have to order six to four months based on my daughters experience. Hopefully by then you will have a better idea of the rate you are losing. -
I was able to take mine right after surgery. I only missed one day. Swallowing pills was never a problem either.

No I have been on antidepressants for a long time and it wasn't an issue.

What happens when you eat chocolate?
kristikay posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am wondering what happens to your system when you eat real chocolate. I ate some chocolate easter eggs today and hours later I was very nauseous and felt terrible for about an hour. I quess I thought if I had a reaction to eating something I shouldn't it would happen right away and wondering if anyone else has a delayed reaction. You don't have to tell me I shouldn't have ate them I know that already, I am just wondering if the two things are connected or a coincidence. -
What happens when you eat chocolate?
kristikay replied to kristikay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well maybe if I would have stuck to a couple bites I would have been okay but stopping has always been a problem for me so for now I guess I will have to stay away from sweets. If I can remember how miserable I was it shoulfd be easy! Glad to know that down the road I may be able to have a bite or two of chocolate. A life without any chocolate would be sad. -
Any one NOT on a diet plan and having success ?
kristikay replied to Kapu's topic in Food and Nutrition
I find I do better when I stick to a plan and track on MY Fitness Pal. I tried just letting the sleeve restrict what and how much I was eating but found myself falling back into bad habits. I wanted my issues with sugar to go away and not have to worry about it but after a major stall I realized I was sabotaging myself, so even though it's best to probably not call it a diet i know I will have to restrict what I eat for the rest of my life to be successful at losing and keeping the weight off. -
Wow what a difference. I bet you feel as good as you look!

I have had a little rice mixed in when I have had chinese food and had no problem.

please tell me this dont last long.
kristikay replied to chantelleyxo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is very normal. I felt the same way. You just had major surgery and you have to give yourself time to recover. I also had depression and it also got better as I healed. The hunger issue is weird but I was more hungry then than I am now. It gets better!!! -
That was the point I don't know why I wasn't losing weight during my cluster headaches. I have lost 33 pounds overall but stalled during that time period.
