Success with portion control only? anyone?
kristikay replied to ladiJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand what you are saying and feel much the same way. I am wondering if you can be successful with a balanced diet or if you have to go very low carb. Although in the beginning it is my understanding that you don't have room for much food and in order to get in the protien you can't tak up space with carbs. I don't have my surgery until January. -
I got approved today also. Tentative date is 2/1, hopefully it will get moved up!

My mother in law wants to get me a blender for Christmas? is there any brand and model you would recommend? I am overwhelmed by how many makes and models. I would love to get a vitamix but that is not in my budget or my mother in law's. Is a submerrsion blender good to have? I have looked at the Ninja but wasn't sure what model would be best. I would love some input by someone that has gone through the surgery.

All Over The Place!
kristikay replied to alley-gator's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am sort of in the same place as you are. When the surgery was far into the future I was all for it and as it gets more of a reality I am having not really second thoughts but more concerns. I have been having bad stomach aches and wonder if it because I am always thinking about it. -

Low Bmi Still Have To Do Pre Op Diet?
kristikay replied to pania's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nutritionist said everyone has to do the pre-op diet but the length of time you have to be on it is determined by your BMI. So if I can get my BMI lower i won't have to be on the preop diet as long , which in my case is alternating between 800 and 1200 calories a day. -
Got My Date!
kristikay replied to sleevinitallbehind's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! I am waiting to get my approval and then my date. I didn't think waiting would be so hard but I am going crazy. I am a planner and this leaves so much up in the air. It will be hard to be on the liquid diet over Christmas, how long do you have to be on it before surgery? How long did it take to find out you where approved? Anyway i am excited for you and hope not to be to far behind you. -
It's not official yet but I hope to be sleeved in January, also. Waiting for approval and hoping to hear something soon.

One Before Preop Diet And Eating Like A Pregnant Lady
kristikay replied to newgirltx's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just finished my six month supervised diet and lost 13 pounds. I now wait until I get approved (hopefully) then one month of a 800 calorie preop diet. I am feeling kind of the same way. Once the preop starts it will never be the same and I am ready for it but I have to admit I am looking forward to relaxing a little bit and enjoying the holidays. But I know I have to watch it because it will be easy to go way overboard. -
I have just finished my six month supervised diet and got rid of my diet coke addiction. I gradually reduced how much I was drinking and haven't had one for over a month. It has been easier than I thought it would be although there are times when I have a hard time resisting. I was told by my nutritionist no more diet coke for me. Besides the stretching and the bubbles it would be very hard to get your water in if you continue to drink diet pop. For me it is easier to give it up than to drink it occasionally with out starting to let it take over again as my drink of choice.

New Photos -76.2 And Almost 4 Months Out
kristikay replied to Izuri's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is an amazing change in four months. Your face has really slimmed down, you don't even look like the same person. Congratulations! -
I will be using nonfat powdered milk after surgery. My bariatric center has us use it with regular skim milk and they call it double milk. They use this instead of protien powder to get your protien in. I am not had my surgery yet but from what everyone says of the protien powder I think I am glad. I will be interested in ideas others have also.

I have an appointment on Friday with my NUT and the PA. it is my final appointment before my case is submitted to insurance. I have been on a supervised diet for five months and lost 12 pounds, which the NUT seemed happy with. At my last appointment they told I neede to lose 5 pounds before my next appointment to help me with approval. Well I have had a stressful month with a death in my family which lead to a long rode trip and beinging surounded by food for a few days. It started with a day of losing focus that led to a couple weeks and not only not losing the 5 pounds but gaining 5 back so now I am 10 pounds away from where I should be, so my question is should I call and postpone my appointment? I hate to do it because it will probably be another month before I can get in againl I am so mad at myself!! Any thoughts on this would be appreciated...

I Think I Found My Transfer Addiction....
kristikay replied to Donny's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I have been thinking about that as I approach surgery, what will I do with my time and extra money whe I am not using it for food and drinks??? Sounds like you have found some healthy and beneficial addictions. Can't wait to start my own journey and feel like doing things to make me feel and even look better. P.S. I wish I could get my husband to get a pedicure! -
I have been told n foods high in acid for quite sometime after surgery.

I am on my six month supervised diet and am having a hard time staying on the diet. I lost in the beginning and kept it off but at my last appt they told me I should lose 5 more before my next appointment as it would go along way towards me getting approved. Instead I have been eating lots of things I shouldnt and have gained 5 instead. I have 10 days to lose the 10 pounds and I am pretty sure I can get it off at least I hope I can.

Need Help On The Proper Supplements And Medication I Need..been Very Sick With No Help Or Guidance
kristikay replied to Brandon12345's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Wow you have gotten some great advice. Advice I need to keep in mind when I have my surgery and I am over 50! I am sorry you are so young and have had to be in this alone until now.II hope you take the advice on keeping a schedule and hopefully you can quit taking the Ambien. I really think they should take Effexor off the market, that is one nasty drug, nothing should be that hard to quit taking. Good luck and hope you keep on posting and letting us know how you are doing. -
Need Help On The Proper Supplements And Medication I Need..been Very Sick With No Help Or Guidance
kristikay replied to Brandon12345's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I have not had surgery yet but one thing stuck out for me and that was the effexor. You are young to be on that for years. I was on it for a year and accidently quit taking it cold turkey. I was so sick in ways I wouldn't have ever expected. I had shakes, I was very sick to my stomach and had horrible diarreha. Also ambien seems very extreme for an eighteen year old to be taking. Do you have one doctor that is monitoring the medications you are on and the supplements you are taking? -
I'm Approved, I'm Approved, I'm Approved,!
kristikay replied to RunningGranny's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congratulations, you are on your way to better health and a skinner body. I hope I am right behind you, hope to have mine in January. It is so encouraging when post-ops post that they have no regrets! -
That was fast, I am quite jealous! I have UHC and have to be on a supervised diet for six months before I can get approval. I pray I don't have to be on the pre=op fiet to long. Congrats and best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Great idea on taking measurements. I should do that tomorrow for the "starting" measurements. I have an old unreliable scale and keep thinking I should replace it before surgery but I cam be compulsive about weighing myself even before I've had surgery so for now I am just relying on the weigh ins at the doctors office.
