    Day One Pre-Op Liquid Diet

How long do you have to do the pre-op diet. I start mine on Tuesday for two weeks alternating between 800 and 1200 calories of liquids a day. I am almost more nervous about it than the surgery itself. I don't know if that makes sense but even when I am dieting I can eat an apple or carrots or something in my plan but the diet is three very small liquid meals a day. I hope I feel energetic and not wiped out.

    Starting preop diet

I start mine on Tuesday and am really worried about being strong and sticking to it and also becoming a total b***h, which happens when i get hungry. My husband isn't supportive of the surgery so I don't know if he will help make it easier for me or not. It is cool you an your wife are able to do this together.

    Having a rough time

Have you weighed yourself since the episode at Walmart. You probably lost some after that. Hope you are feeling better. My surgery is Jan,22, and being constipated is a big fear of mine. Wondering what steps are we need to take to avoid it. The last time I had surgery on my back I had a horrible episode and don't want to live through that again.

    True Or False

I haven't had my surgery yet but my doctor doesn't recommend protein shakes at all. They want us to get our protein from food and for extra protein we can use powdered milk. So I don't think you need the protein shakes if you are getting enough protein from your food.
  5. I agree with the restriction of your diet being very hard to follow. I haven't had my surgery yet so i may not be the best to give advise but I have a couple books that I have been reading and getting ideas from and maybe you could get a book to help you with ideas on meals instead of the protien shakes. I have Weight Loss surgery for Dummies and I think that there is a cookbook that goes with it. As for exercising I am having to exercise now and I just started small with walking and riding my exercises bike. Just getting up to do it is the hard part but once I get started its not so bad. Just think of tomorrow as the first day and start over with a positive attitude. I keep telling myself I know I will feel like I am going through hell but it will be worth it when I get on the otherside.
  6. I haven't heard anything about paying my deductible before surgery. I assume I will be billed for my portion after insurance pays their part. My surgery is Jan. 22. I am getting mine down at a University Hospital maybe that makes a difference instead of a private hospital.
  7. I have been wondering the same thing. You'd think there would be standards in place that doctors would follow but it is crazy how everyone is doing things so different. I start a pureed diet of alternating 800 and 1200 calories for two weeks prior to surgery. Also my doctors don't have us using any protien powder, but relying on milk, powder milk, greek yogurt and cottage cheese. I have thought about getting some protien powder to help get the protien in anyway.

    Tomorrow starts my preop diet

Just got back from vacation and spent the last few days eating everything and anything I wanted knowing that tomorrow it would end. I have to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks before the surgery but tomorrow I am going back on the diet I was on with my nutritionist. Don't even want to know how much I weigh but I am over it and ready to get going, My husband isn't really on board with the surgery as he thinks there is no reason I can't do this on my own. But he did initiate getting rid of the candy and cookies left from Christmas. I know I have to get used to being hungry and not think I am dying when my stomach growls. On vacation we went to a bowl game and spent ten hours in the car getting there and 10 hours getting back. While there we did lots of walking and standing. I have more aches and pains than an eighty year old should have. My right foot hurts so much I am wondering if I have a stress fracture. My knee is really hurting also. I go back to work tomorrow and am worried about being able to stand and thinking I may have to go to the doctor.

    375 Lbs Pre - Op

I would start with your insurance and see what they will cover and if you have a ppo you will have to go to see who is on their list. I had to go to A center of excellence in bariatric surgery. My insurance didn't require a referral but some do so you may have to start with your family doctor.

    Christmas Day

Well just had my last Christmas with out my future sleeve. I enjoyed it but looking forward to next year when I am much thinner and healthier. I loved the good food and eating as much as I wanted but now I feel terrible, bloated, no energy. It seems like I always have an issue, stomache, headache, knee pain, ankle pain and/or foot pain. I can't wait until I start feeling better. We have a trip planned over new years eve and then I am starting my pre preop diet which starts Jan, 8th.

    Doctors orders

I am sure it will be, I am right behind you. My surgery is Jan. 22 and I have been over doing it over the holidays. I start my liquid preop diet on Jan. 8th but getting back on the nut. diet plan I was on for 6 months and hopefully lose some of what I have gained. When I first started thinking about this surgery I never thought there would be so much dieting before the surgery.

    So sad at times

I understand about the pictures and as my family took pictures and I avoided them like the plague. My surgery is Jan.22 and my daughter gets married June 22. I hope by then I will feel better about getting my picture taken. I so want to feel good about myself by then. I had my picture taken at a work gathering last week and almost freaked out when I saw the picture, but it will make a great before shot. I think we are on the right path aqnd the future will be better.

    WLS journey !

It is hard to follow a diet over the holidays. Is this your last appointment for the 6 months? Have you lost during the past 5 months? I assume you are on the 6 month diet for insurance approval. They are looking for assurance that you will be able to follow the diet after surgery. Are your parents supportive of the surgery and are they helping you?

    My S(sleeve)-Day Story....

Thanks for sharing your experience. it helps to know what to look forward to, my date is Jan,22. The next step is getting my husband to read a few posts, especially the part where your husbacn is supportive. Mine is not so much, still of the opinion I could lose the weight with diet and exercise even though I have been trying that for 35 years and weigh more than ever.

Ten days to lose 10 pounds?

Don't give up just get back on your program and tell yourself you can do it! Even if you don't lose all that he wants you to he will be happy with a loss. I almost postponed mine because I had not lost the amount they wanted me to but I went after encourgement from this site. I was down a few pounds and they were happy with that. It was submitted and I was approved and have my surgery date of jan.22.

    January 22 is the Day!

I got my date January 22 which is exactly seven months from my first appointment and five months to the date of the day my daughter gets married. I am so excited but also so scared. My eating has been horrible since I got the date especially eating way to much sugar! I feel terrible and I have to much time between now and when I start my pre-op diet to keep this up. You would think I would learn but quess that what has lead my to needing this surgery.

    No alcohol ever?

I really like and trust my nutritionist. She has advised me that at five months out I could have a small drink at my daughters wedding. I am glad it hasn't been forbidden because knowing me I would just want it more but I am happy to comply with a small amount very occassionally.

    Protien help for you

That is what my nut advises also. We do not use protien shakes at all but use powdered milk to boost the protein. I will be adding it to my skim milk, she calls it double milk.
  23. If i were youI would try to stick to the diet the best you can and try to be down a little when they submit you to insurance. they are looking to see if you can make the changes necessary to be successful with the surgery. I just finished mine and struggled with losing weight but in the end I lost 12 pounds and got approved. Take it one day at a time. this is a hard time of the year to be so restrictive and I keep thinking if I could do this on my own I wouldn't need surgery. but they want to know it will be good investment topay for the surgery.

    sleep study

Even if it wasn't for the surgery it is a good thing to get your sleep apnea diagnosed and treated. I am thinking you must have been diagnosed with it at the first study and that is why you need to go back. The second study they determine the airpressure you need with the cpap machine. I am hoping to be able to get rid of mine after the surgery but getting it and using it have made a big difference in how I can function.
