coffee or no coffee?
kristikay replied to angelamarie79's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am not a big coffee drinker and i don't remember my nutritionist telling me not to drink it. I am two weeks out and had my first cup yesterday. It went down no problem and am looking forward to it as a once and awhile treat. -
They look great, especially the raspberry and the coffee. I will definitely look for these next time. I am not on protein shakes so really look for good sources of protein.

I never crushed any of my meds and have had no problems.

You go through the preop diet, then you have the surgery and you on liquids for at least a week, then you get pureed and the soft foods, then finally you get real food. It is the start of a long adjustment of changing how you eat. I have up and downs with being able to handle the changes. I about had a melt down before going to a Superbowl Party tonight. But the best thing is to focus onthe positive changes that are ahead of you. I must go to the only bariatric group in the country that does not recommend using any kind of protein drinks or bars. Sometime it makes it easier and harder but I am able to get in my protein requirements with regular food.

My doctor let me start puree at 7 days and I have not had any problem. I started by making runny cream of wheat or very soupy mashed potatoes and now can eat thicker things.

Ideal weight question
kristikay replied to Unbesleevable's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I am 5'8 and I am 51. When I got married I weighed 176 and was a size 12. I would be very happy to be back to that weight. I did work out a lot and was in good shape. That is my goal weight but also plan on getting back into with exercise along with the weight loss. I sued to do weight watchers and they always set my goal weight so low it felt unattainable. I'd rather have a realistic goal and if I get there and feel I still like to lose more than maybe go lower, -
I would have sugarfree popsicles, and chicken broth. I could have skim milk and smooth yogurt. Every doctors plans are different so its best to follow their directions.

I have plans on Saturday to go out to a musical. This is the situation, we are leaving home at 11:00 arriving in Des Moines at 12:30 getting a drink and bite to eat, then going to the The Book Of Morman. Afterwards we have reservations at a brewery. I realize I probably should not go but I really want too. I will get home at eight. I feel great for the most part. What I need is advice on how to handle my food for the day. I am on a blended diet.

Thanks for all the positive responses. I decided I would go. taking a cooler with me. No alcohol for me, I will stick to water. Hopefully they will have a soup or potato I will be able to have. I will let you know how it goes!

I would think many would say you two ar blessed, many lose it there first. I've lost 20 and no change yet.

I had my surgery a week after you and am already on a blended diet I think they call it. I started it the second week and it has been much better. I love that I can have a scrambled egg. It has really helped. I have a different diet plans as I do not use protein drinks at all which at times makes it harder.

Sleeve done yesterday morning! So many question.
kristikay replied to kimmy42083's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sugar free popsicles were my best friend. Are you home from the hospital already? The only things I could have the second day were the popsicles, broth, skim milk and water. Liquids should fill you up pretty well the first couple days. -
Good Luck, hope it goes quickly!!

Wow, great job. I bet you do feel great. Can't wait to be under 200 pounds, it has been over 20 years for me. -
Sorry they send it to pathology and then I am sure it is disposed of. I thought of the same thing. When my dad got his gallbladder out he got great colored pictures of the surgery and his gallbladder. That was pretty cool.

I am feeling a bit of depression myself. I am not up to doing much yet so to much tv and time to think. I hope it gets better. It is such a big adjustment to our lives, I don't think I realized how much until now. I know its a positive change but all change can be hard.

Well I think I may have turned the corner on feeling better. I took a long nap this afternoon and woke up feeling more like myself. I also stopped the pain meds today. As far as the surgery went I can't say it was a piece of cake or I was up and going the next day but it definitely wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I was afraid of being sick to my stomach and vomiting but had no issues in that regard. I have mostly been tired and had pain with my largest incision. I can't tell if the pain is from just the incision or from inside where the staples are located .Tomorrow I have an appointment with my surgeon and my nutritionist. I am looking forward to seeing how much weight I have lost. I am missing food and eating and will be glad when i can add a few more things to my diet. I think the next stage is called the pureed diet and includes eggs, mashed potato, beans, soft fruits and veggies that are blended. My husband has a job tomorrow so my friend is taking me to the hospital, so glad I don't have to go alone. I will Post my weight loss tomorrow!

Did you get anti nausea medicine from the doctor? I was sent home with an anti nausea suppositories.. Thankfully I haven't needed them but maybe you could call and ask. I am also not sleeping well and have been very uncomfortable at night. Last night I -
I know all doctors are different with their diet plans but I can't have citrus or anything acid for the first three months. It has to do with acid contributing to ulcers. I haven't tried crystal light yet but am going to try one that is not citrus flavored.

How long did you take pain meds after your surgery?
kristikay replied to Success2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on Tuesday and was thinking about stopping them today but changed my mind and think I will take another dose before bed. I am still having pain in the incision site. Because they have the side effect of being constipating I should stop before I have issues in that area. -
Lactose Intolerance

I have had no problem drinking milk since my surgery on Tuesday. The NUT did say it might happen but so far so good.
