I ended up needing 5 blood transfusions and 2 units of plasma so my story isn't typical. But I was not prepared for the pain. I have a high tolerance. I have several piercings and a tattoo. I was in the hospital five days and then used pain meds for a week at home. I went home with a drain and staples. I think it's like child birth in that your body eventually blocks out the memory of pain because the result is greater than the pain. The gas is the worst! On a scale of 1-10. For me it was probably an 8 or 9 at times! Jess...Surgiversary 9/19/12

You would think there would be a bariatric standard that all docs would follow. I ate a soft taco, meat and cheese only and only about 1/4. I chewed, chewed, chewed. Sometimes it wouldn't mash up so I would spit that part out. Food doesn't taste good right now. I also managed to get about half a protein bar in yesterday. You have to be really careful with the chewing on anything! After I'm done chewing, I move it around in my mouth to make sure there are no pieces. I'm on puree but my doc said that didn't mean it had to be put through a blender. You can do it with your mouth just be careful! Jess...Surgiversary 9/19/12

Not sure what I really expected but this is not it! I feel bad the majority of the time. I'm not getting enough Fluid or Protein. My goal was to be by the book, but it's so hard! I know it will get better, I just hate feeling bad all the time! The thought of eating makes me nauseous. Nothing tastes good anymore unless it's really tart(lemonade) or really acidic (ketchup.) It seems like as long as it's on my list of approved foods I can tolerate it in small amounts. I've eaten everything from eggs to tacos. I just can't eat a lot at one time. Don't even wanna eat, I just know I have to. Jess...Surgiversary 9/19/12

I would think that would make you sick because of the amount you would have to drink plus I think it's carbonated. I'm having a hard time and have used enemas and suppositories. Jess...Surgiversary 9/19/12

I was wondering if sugar alcohol has caused anyone to get sick? I was thinking about getting some sugar free candy but was scared to try it. I'm 2.5 weeks post-op. Jess...Surgiversary 9/19/12

I did try a little bit of baked potato. My husband and I were out in town and he was hungry. I literally took a spoonful of a baked potato and asked for some hot Water so I could thin it out. It settled OK. Also, chick-fil-a has a REALLY good Soup, ask for mostly broth. They also have diet lemonade that's really good! The baked potato was about a week post-op... Out of all the classes they have us go through, NONE focus on the pain! I really think there should be a passion management class for us! It does get better. It may still get worse for a little bit! Has anyone tried a small sip after eating? I want just a small piece of ice or something but am scared to death! If we eat three meals and it takes the minimum of 30 minutes to eat and we can't eat 30 minutes before or after, that's 4.5 hours a day we can't drink. I already don't get enough fluid! I'm usually a really tough girl... Piercings... A tattoo! I was so worried about the drain. Looking at it made me nauseous. I was afraid I would start heaving or pass out..lol Wasn't bad at all! There was more inside than what I thought. I kinda heard a slurp sound and only felt it for a couple of seconds. Just a weird feeling, not bad! I had some discomfort later on where the tube is on the inside(not where it goes in....further in.) It does make you feel a bit normal afterwards. Jess...Surgiversary 9/19/12

Hello all... Surgery was 9/19. 216 was my highest and I am 189 as of today! Staples and drain are finally out. I was advanced to puree/mashed food today. I used to love flavored Water and couldn't drink it plain. Now I'm the opposite. I miss the flavor it just doesn't taste good anymore! Still have a burning pain to the left of my belly button, it comes and goes. Gas has been the worst! It wont move! Any suggestions? Jess...Surgiversary 9/19/12
