I had a similar experience& got 4 units of blood. I work on the surgical unIt& I'm the 1st with complications. My surgeon said it may have been that the staple line or a lap site keeps bleeding because the vessels don't clot off. I got better. I hope you get better& thrive! & btw you are a class act for being nice to that nurse. We appreciate it. & I agree attitude is everything & yours is golden!!!

First Day Of "soft" Food... Already Not Going Well...
atelux17 replied to Strangefruit's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Props to the people with the stricter diets. I'm on soft diets as well(started on the 4th week post-op)& am 5wks post-op tomorrow. My nut did not give me any sort of list. I came with a list of foods I wanted to know about & she ok'd things like shredded chicken, lunch meat, ground turkey, looked bored & said, "just font eat a lot of crackers". Huh?I did clears jn the hospital,2 wks of full liquid, 2 weeks puréed (blech--I never want to see meat that texture again in my life). I feel full quickly with dense proteins&eggs. I noticed they said no seafood til I'm on regular diet. I've been eating crab since purees. I will never give that up. I found these websites that have more explicit diet plans: http://www.weightlosssurgeon.com/bariatric-surgery-guide/the-first-few-weeks/stage-4-bariatric-diet-soft-foods http://www.dukehealth.org/services/weight_loss_surgery/care_guides/bariatric_surgery_diet_manual/the_recommended_diet_following_bariatric_surgery/#stage3 -

Now at 205lbs. Starting period. I had a 2 wk stall at 210 then was able to drink more& went from 500 cal to 650 to get body out of starvation mode. Walk 30 min a day. I'm a slow loser, but at least I got some wt off. -
High Protein, Low Fat, Low Carb foods for Vegetarians ?
atelux17 replied to indian's topic in Food and Nutrition
Edamame has ~8 to 11g per 1/2 cup. I use it in stir fry or they have small bags for snacks. Dry roasted soy nuts have 68g per cup! I can't have those yet but used to season them with curry & eat them. The fiber is about have the number of carbs, 9 carbs in the uncooked but 4 g fiber. -
I got a rotisserie chicken & eat 2 oz portion with Fat free ranch or BBQ sauce topped with cheese for additional protein. Yum. Bought crab claw meat at costco& can eat up to 3 oz with 1 tbdp light Alfredo. Eggs-scrambled with 1 oz Parmesan (9 grams protein per serving). Tried ham today. I eat lunch meat & tuna a lot.

HELP! eating more-gain weight still, 1.5year after pregnancy, AND PROZAC for depression.....
atelux17 replied to anastasia35's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Sstart with modifying your diet. Less carbs, Protein only meals or replace with a shake. More fluids! You know you can do it, you've done it before!! Some people do the sleeve or pouch test to shrink the sleeve. There is also an operation called stomaphyx that can reduce size of sleeve if yours is truly stretched. Wish you all the best! http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/StomaphyX -
Sharp stinging and burning pains
atelux17 replied to Tiffany Winn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most of my pain is on the left, the vacuous hole where most of my stomach was. As for the burning, maybe it's heartburn. The acid levels should go down when your body learns that you have a smaller stomach. -
Accidentally reverse an approval by changing surgeries?
atelux17 replied to ready4it's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is a very personal choice, but I would not get an RNY. As a nurse, RNY Patients come back in with. dehydration, nutrient deficiencies, fistulas. If u are addicted to sweets, then maybe. -
breast options after weight loss
atelux17 replied to NurseMom's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
There's fat grafting but it is experimental& at best 80% successful. I hear the gummi implants feel better& have a more natural shape. I am definitely afraid of breast lift, but need one badly. I had a patient who lost both nipples due to necrosis. She had surgery in Costa Rica. I know I will def have to go abroad due to expense. Maybe Mexico or brazil. -
I did better with warm fluids. Can u have jello? It's filling at least. Stay strong!
-
Are you on any medications? If so, what? I had internal bleeding at the iron made me have pain & acid feeling in stomach. Cold can also cause cramping. U could try changing your ppi/antacid. Also, ginger soothes most stomach upset. Keep us posted& tell your doc!

What vitamins are you taking?
atelux17 replied to latice19's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Opurity multivitamin from unjury.com. Optimized for bypass&sleeve reportedly. & tums with calcium 2x/da for calcium, acid reduction& cuz I like to chew something every once in a while. -
My savior was Unjury Protein'd cheese sauce. 21 grams per serving. I reduced the water to about a 2 oz serving. I'm a cheese addict. Can't tell u how many times I picked up a cheese product & tearfully put it down.

Sugar free cider or hot chocolate. I do better with hot liquids Mio or crystal light or koolaid. R u talking protein drinks or just drinks?
-
I like Chike, banana or chocolate. They have a sample back. 28g protein. It saved my life post-op because u can control the water u put in&make it only 3 oz. I tried Atkins. I drank them preop. But 11oz would take me 3 hrs to drink.

A 'fleur de lis' or inverted T tummy tuck should help with excess skin on your sides and back. -
Getting Bored With Little Tiny Food!

Bed bath beyond. Dessert/tasting sets. $20 each. -
So I was sleeved 11/16. Woke up started walking& doing spirometer. At about 3 am BP tanked down to 70s/40s& got a 1 liter bolus. 2 hrs later tried to go to bathtoom&said I'm going to blackout' tried to lean back to bed. But somehow ended up on floor. Next thing I knew all my co-workers (yep i work here, no privacy for me)were lifting me back to bed. Blacked out again woke up in the middle of a code speed w/ HR in 150s& Bp down to 70s. Got 2 liters of fluid& 2 units of blood. Doc moved my gastrograffin swallow til today& said I might still be bleeding from staple line. Very weak now. Sleeping a lot/too much. My drain dumping blood like 500 cc per day. I'm scared.

Surgery In Less Than 1 Hour. Cant Wait.!
atelux17 replied to FDclerical's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats& best of luck to you!!! -
I feel for you. But never give up on yourself or what you want. Your plan sounds smart to me. I'm a nurse & having surgery over break should be ok because you probably don't start clinicals until late in January. You need at least 6 wks after surgery. A BMi of 45 shouldn't be a problem in order to operate. You've proven your Compliant& that's what insurance & doctors look for. I think living another year as an obese person will do you a lot of harm personally. As for your dietician, she is obviously a nitwit who does not practice in a way that is therapeutic to her clients. Wait 2+ years? Why? You are too busy to eat right at this time? Who says that to someone who is trying to eat better? I think a lot of dietitians cannot relate to other people very well. My dietician eats celery & diet coke all the time & always tells me she is swimming in her size XS scrubs. Never give up. Go for the WLS.
