My doc said that because air bubbles do tend to get into the tubing, the 1-2 week time (and us moving around) gives the fluid that they inject time to redistribute itself fully into the band through all of the possible air bubbles...makes a little sense to me...I'd be interested in hearing other possible reasons!

Laura, First CONGRATS on your fill!!! I'm so glad my doc numbed me though...I'm a sissy when it comes to needles and I'm a NURSE! LOL...I don't mind giving them, but I HATE getting them! Second, enjoy your wedding in Las Vegas. You're right, it does give you more "you/us" time. After 6 months of planning my wedding, I wish I would have just done it in Vegas. It would have saved us a fortune and a lot less headache and stress! We spent our honeymoon in Vegas though...had a blast while we were there. :heh:

My doc allows you to eat whatever, I just didn't know how *I* would react so I ate lightly but enough to make sure I wouldn't be hungry afterwards. My doc allowed me soft foods yesterday the remainder of the day and back to regular food today.

Hi Angies577! Welcome to the Shrinking Violets forum! The only reason that I know how much my band holds is because I'm nosey and I ask my doc 1000 questions. LOL

I had my fill today too! However my doctor insists that I continue with soft foods today and back to regular food tomorrow. I know some have to do liquids right after a fill, then mushies...my doc isn't as conservative I guess. I had 1.2 cc placed into my 4 cc band. He said my port is perfectly placed and had no problems getting to it at all. First he numbed me with some Xylocaine, and the weird thing is, usually that stuff burns like crazy and I didn't even FEEL the needle go in, nor did I feel him injecting the medication to numb me. Then he comes at me with this huge needle, so I started to get really nervous, but again, I didn't FEEL it once. All I felt is a little pressure when he was flushing the tubing of air a few times. No pain at all - ZILCH! I'm soooo happy. I noticed that so far I have to eat a little slower, but I had refried beans and a really moist (and small) chile rellano for dinner. It took me about 30 minutes to finish it and it was SO yummy! But I'm definitely full and satisfied...he said that it typically feels about a week or so to feel full restriction if I'm going to get much from this fill. I have another appt in 6 weeks but he said if I feel that I need another fill before then, to wait 3 weeks and come back in....we'll see! Hopefully now I'll lose some more weight! Yipeeeee!!!! :clap2:

Ok ladies - I have an appt tomorrow with my doc, but I thought I'd get another point of view(s) before I go. I had my surgery 5 weeks ago. Before the surgery I had been diagnosed with a hiatal hernia. I'm not sure yet if my surgeon actually repaired it (he said he probably would) as I wasn't able to see him during my initial post-op appt and the op report wasn't available yet. I haven't had to take my Aciphex since the surgery, however I've been able to eat much more than I was initially, probably 1 1/2 +cups of food at each sitting. I'm also eating spicier foods now that I'm on normal foods. My hearburn and reflux are back. You don't think that I've already damaged my band do you??? I'm supposed to have my first fill tomorrow, but I'm thinking they'll probably tell me to let my tummy rest. We'll see...Anyone elses thoughts???

Awwwwwwwwwwe how wonderful! I miss those years. My baby will be 19 on Monday - time flies when you're having fun. She's grown up SO fast!!! My oldest turned 24 in February. Within the next 5 yrs or so I'll hopefully have grandbabies too!!! :star: Enjoy them while they're still little!!!

    heartburn

I had heartburn before my surgery - also had a hiatal hernial (not sure yet if it was repaired...doc said he'd repair it, but i was seen for my first post op visit by another doc and they didn't have the op report yet). Since my surgery 5 weeks ago, I have not had any heartburn, however, recently it's come back. I'm thinking it's because I'm eating spicier foods again. I go for my first possible fill on Monday...I'm going to take my Nexium and lay off the spicy foods and see if that helps...

I broke the plateau!!! I weighed this morning and I'm down to 238.6!!! I haven't been able to get under 239 in 2 weeks...I kept going between 239 & 240....Now I'm down to 238 and I get my first fill Monday! My next goal is to lose another 15 lbs by June 30th! I'm going to work hard!!! Have a wonderful day to all of my fellow violets!!!!

I should boycott the scale too...it hasn't moved in 11 days. :help: My fill is also scheduled for Monday! Hopefully that helps a bit. Although tonight I think I learned my lesson - It's my wedding anniversary so the hubby and I went out to our favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner. I ate chips and salsa (hot salsa!), and a small portion of an artichoke quesidilla. Well either I ate too much, or the food was too spicy. I think I experienced a PB, although I'm not sure because it was different from what I've read on the boards. I was sitting here reading my email when I burped, but this VERY acidic bile came up and I about choked because it burned my throat so bad! I could feel it in the back of my throat and I can still taste it. GROSS! So I'm not sure if it qualifies as a PB or just bad acid reflux...either way I'm going to lay off the spicy food and eat less.... :sick

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

mdrai, good luck tomorrow!!! If I can also add my two cents to make things easier for you... 1. Walk as soon as possible, but don't overdo it. Just short walks to help you expel gas and keep your muscles moving. As you heal take longer and more brisk walks. 2. Use your breathing toy that they give you every hour (incentive spirometer is the technical name). Cough and deep breath at least a few times each hour to keep your lungs open and clear. 3. Sleep in a recliner or with pillows if needed. I slept in my recliner for almost a week. I was much more comfortable that way. 4. Wear loose clothing. 5. Use GasX!!!!! This and liquid Tylenol were my best friends for the first week. 6. Drink plenty of fluids. Popsicles, water, decaf tea, protein drinks, broth, sf snow cones, etc. This is extremely important so that you don't become dehydrated. 7. Get plenty of rest. Don't push yourself - allow time for healing. Good luck! Keep us posted!!!!!! :clap2:
  18. I'm eating between 900-1200 calories a day....My surgery was 1 month ago and I've lost about 15 lbs....this week I feel like I'm at a standstill though...for the past 9 days I've been balancing between 239-240. I need to kick start my body with more exercise I guess - or decrease my calorie intake lol

Terri, I'm sorry you had to go through that...I haven't had one YET and I don't WANT to experience it. What were you eating at the time? Or was it a matter of eating too fast or too much?? I don't ever want to go through that! I hope that you're feeling better, and resting your tummy with liquids and mushies for the next day or so... :drum:

Thank you SO much Gina! After I took that picture I was whining to my hubby that I couldn't tell a difference "I've ONLY lost 15 lbs in a month...I can't even tell that I've lost weight...I haven't lost anymore....waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" LOL...whine whine whine....so thank you for noticing....my hubby was right I guess! I just can't WAIT until I get a fill...I hate being stuck with no more weight loss :faint:

Did they give you a decongestant? That usually does the trick! Your sinuses and your ears/throat are anatomically connected and one affects the other.

9 days until I hopefully can get a fill - I'm able to eat about 1 1/2 cups of food and my weight loss is at a standstill....It's weird - I never feel hungry until I actually start eating! Then I just can't seem to get enough food. My weight is fluctuating between 239-240. I need to get it down a little so that I'm completely out of the 240's. LOL Oh well, maybe I'll be getting a fill soon. My daughter and I got a lot of exercising done today. We oscillated the dirt in the front on both sides of the sidewalk and mixed with some really good potting soil. Then we planted lots of pretty flowers. That was after we shopped all day LOL.... I hope that everyone had a great day!

Hi there! I have the SAME exact problem. I am getting better though - I'm making sure that I get plenty of water (dehydration can cause constipation), and plenty of fiber rich food.
