  1. That is me!

Anyone else want to join our 'secret' Facebook group?! We have about 50 members now' date=' it is great!

It is a secret group so nobody can see the group, nobody can see the posts, nobody can see who are members.

Just search for me & friend me... Sharon Ivanauskas.

Then I will add you to the group![/quote']

Hi Sharon! I just friended you too. I'm Alexandra Kalmanofsky...

  2. @AUDREY' date=' make sure your paperwork is on point with GHI, I was denied twice. Got approved on 2nd level appeal[/quote']

Audrey, I was in a similar situation. I had a short window where I could schedule surgery and it was a nailbiter! I called the office frequently to make sure the date I wanted was still available (like once a week) but had to wait until my approval came in. It came about 10 days prior to my surgery and I had to scramble to get all the pre-tests done. Just have faith that it will work out! I had BCBS which I hear is more lenient than GHI. But these docs will go to bat for you. Good luck!

  3. I have had that problem too' date=' Cinemagirl and was feeling really light headed yesterday and this morning. I was afraid I would have to go to the ER for some Fluid but hopefully I've gotten over that. Feeling pretty well at this point.

Either way, I plan on spending the day tomorrow at the hospital. My oldest daughter is having her first child, my first grandchild and her Water has started leaking. She is headed to the hospital tonight. I can tell she will be a good baby because about a month ago, many of us in the family had several things going on, like surgery, and I said it would work best for us all if she were born on May 20th and look what's happening! How about that? ha, ha..[/quote']

    Congrats KBT!!

I can't wait to hear about the new addition to your family!

  4. Each surgeon chooses what plan they want to follow. The one they believe is best for their patients according to data and research and patient feedback. Someone on this website suggested using the seasoning packets from Ramen Noodles mixed with Water instead of broth. I am 4 days post-op...I tried it last night because I wouldn't eat any broth I was sick of it. And it was fabulous. Also' date=' I am going to seek out a sugar free snow cone today!![/quote']

Man I'm gonna try the ramen trick.

I'm 4 days out and on Protein shakes but only getting about 1 down a day in 3oz increments. I realize I'm only getting about 20g of Protein and 180 calories a day. I am guessing this is part of why I feel so weak and out of it. I haven't taken pain meds since 1 day post surgery, so I don't think that making me woozy. But who knows...

  5. May 14th here too. I am able to get all my fluids in now' date=' but struggle with the Protein. My stomach seems to cramp up more with that. I also get so full after only 2 to 3 oz. Like as if I had just ate an entire thanksgiving feast. So I guess that is a good thing and means its working. But I am not getting the 60 gm a day yet. Maybe only about 30-40 at best. I just want to get enough protien in to heal and recover and get the optimal weight loss. One day at a time I guess. Pain is manageable, but still an issue. Nausea comes and goes depending on what I am trying to stomach at the time. I have Protein jellos, but cannot get nearly as much in as the liquid shakes. Warmed up Water seems to be my easiest thing to drink, hot tea doesn't agree with me. Feel like a new baby trying out all the new foods again. haha! Hope everyone has a good weekend. I am on my own on Monday with 4 kids. I do have someone to help pick up from school since I can't drive, but with my toddler all day long. I'm going to rest as much as I can this weekend to get ready for it.[/quote']

Hi all. I'm a may 15 sleeve. No real pain but still a bit of nausea. I am with you on the warmed up Water. I can't say I feel full drinking 3oz of Protein shake but I have no desire for it or any other type of "food". My real problem (indelicate as it is) is constant diahrrea. Even from water. Sorry for the tmi but I am just hoping this is somewhat normal. Going out for a bi of a walk!

  6. I told my husband.....If I die during surgery' date=' KNOW that I died happy attempting to give myself a new and better life. One way or the other, I would get it!! <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />[/quote']

NancyJerry, this is exactly what I did. By the time I got to the hospital Tuesday I was serene and confident. I'm here in my hospital bed awaiting release and really looking forward to the challenges of the upcoming 3 weeks.

  7. I am having my surgery on the 29th with Roslin colleague' date=' Dr Yatco. I went from Mary, to Tamara,to Lisa to now Carla. It was so frustrating to go through so many different people. But I am looking forward to my surgery in 2 weeks[/quote']

Good luck to you! I am still I the hospital three days later but mostly because I wasn't able to drink enough on my own to be released. I should leave today. I got the sleeve Tuesday morning and stopped taking all pain meds Wednesday night. It's a little painful but not enough to need drugs. My bigger issue was nausea and I'm a going home on nausea meds. It was really bad the first 2 days but has gotten better.

Dr Roslin's team has been great! Will likely be the same team for you. They make rounds and talk about your questions.

I am so sick of icky bro, I am actually looking forward to icky Protein shakes!!

    Good luck!

  8. good luck -- what time is surgery' date=' did you find out? you will probably have to be there early ... don't worry, I know all will go well! Remember, even if the first week or few weeks aren't as easy as you might have planned, it will all fall into place thereafter .. it did for me and I know if will for you too! Everyone is different -- some people have a really easy time at it right from the start, and some people have a little rougher time of it, but eventually, we all fall into step and I promise you, you will too! You are in excellent hands - Dr. Roslin is a great doctor (and a really nice person too!) ... I will be thinking of you, sending you positive vibes! Keep me posted -- hang tight ... !!![/quote']

    Thanks Rosiegirl!

My surgery is at 730am so I'm very pleased. Best to do it early. Your comment is very important for me to hear. I'm not the most patient person so I have to remember to give it space and time, and trust it will work out in the end. Wise advice! I am looking forward to it now...

  9. Hi all,

I'm getting my sleeve tomorrow and going through all kinds of anxiety.

One issue: I live in Brooklyn, NY in a 4th floor walk-up. So I climb 55 stairs to get to my apartment.

My doc said I will likely be in the hospital for two nights, but should not expect to climb those stairs.

I was going to give it another 2 days, and come home Saturday (Surgery Tuesday, home Saturday?)

Anyone have a clue how long it will take before I can climb that many stairs?

    Thanks!

  10. Hey Y'all. I'm getting my sleeve with Dr. Roslin at Lenox Hill on Tuesday (15th.)

I TOTALLY agree about that office. I've never seen such a crazy office! Tamara left and no one could figure out who was getting my approvals taken care of. Good thing I'm so pushy!!!

I'm freaking out, I admit. But I love how successful you are, rosiegirl! I wanna be like you!

I sort of feel like I haven't had enough nutritional counseling from the office, though. I'm still sort of unclear what the first 30 days are going to be like. I downloaded a paper from Columbia Hospital that had a lot more foods that the handout we got. Not quite sure what to do, so I will likely wind up just drinking a lot of Protein shakes. Good thing GNC has their Lite drink on sale 50% off in NYC right now!

  11. Hmmm...I haven't used him but I grew up next door to him and am still in touch with him. I have called/emailed to ask him about my surgical options in NYC, and what was best for me.

I know him to be a great guy and a good doctor. He was very open about options with me, took time as a friend to go over his thoughts. I trust him as a person, and would go to him if I still lived in Louisville...

  12. You've got a point there, Biggiesmallz. That would be the end of the surgeries!

When I was freaking out at my doctor last week, he predicted (rightly) that I was also scared to fly. That the truth is...once we make this choice and enter the OR, we have no control. So just trust your doctor and the good folks at the hospital and know the incidence of problems with the sleeve are minimal. 1% get a leak. And there have been no deaths associated with the sleeve.

  13. I think I just need to post this to anyone who might understand.

I don't know anyone else who has had this surgery. I'm totally full on freaking out!!!

Getting vsg May 15 with Dr Roslin in NYC.

I'm freaking out that my whole life will change. And that I'm having major surgery. And I can't imagine what those first 30 days will be like. And will I ever be able to eat food again. And will I ever feel like myself again. And what if....what if....what if...

I feel a bit alone and crazy and worried. And I know I do this for my health but what if is a big mistake??

And most of all, I feel like a junkie about to lose her drugs.

    Yeah...

    Thanks for the space.

    Cinemagirl....

  14. OMG you read my mind. I'm freaking out now that I made the choice to do this. I haven't quite scheduled a date but am in the process of scheduling the endoscopy and cat scan prior to surgery. I can't believe I'm doing something so extreme.

Also, on these forums I've been reading about leaks and i'm so scared of this happening to me. Will it be worth all the trouble if I wind up with a leak?

I have to admit, coming on this board has helped a lot. I just have to remain positive. I am getting married in June 2013 and I want to start my married life as a healthy woman without health issues as my shadow....

Thanks for this thread. Glad to know this is "normal"
