How Did You Decide On A Goal Weight?

OMG! I just laughed out loud at work... that's a pretty good description of me, too! I started joking over the last couple of years that I knew I'd let myself go when my legs finally got fat.

How Did You Decide On A Goal Weight?

I think it's funny that I have not actually discussed my goal weight with my doctor yet. My husband has had his band for almost 2 years - same doc - so I think I probably walked in there with a bit of a know-it-all attitude and some things might have been skipped over a bit. Size-wise, I can't even imagine being a regular 14, but that's my goal at this point. The last time I was that small, I was in 9th grade. A while back I had someone ask me what I "used to weigh" - she was asking what I weighed before I got heavier. I just laughed and said, "You mean in 8th grade??" Thanks for the quick responses! I'm definitely making some mini/milestone goals for myself, but I just keep wondering how far I can go. It would be incredible to shop in any store and be able to find clothes that fit.

    Have you tried almond milk?
  4. These guys have a great staff! I never wait, I'm treated very well, the staff is helpful... I almost always get the appointment time I want (once the nurse practitioner even stayed late for me). I just had my 3rd appointment there today and they not only got me out in time to get the appointment in during my lunch break, but they answered all of my questions and even thought outside the box to help me with some things. I love these guys! (My husband also saw Dr. Cribbins for his band about 2 years ago - he still goes to this office for follow up treatments.) Their website: http://yournewhealth.net

    Comorbidities, Stress & Geez...

My doc's nurse helped me, actually... as wrong as that is! I was a little shocked, but I'm happy she did. The next visit I came in and put my purse down...and she went, "oh my goodness, girl - you've lost 10lbs!" I said, "Umm...no, I didn't - remember last time??" LOL She said next time just get on, purse and all!

    Im So Nervous!!!!

I'm paranoid I'll be denied, too. My BMI is typically around 38 and I don't have any comorbids. I registered a BMI of 40.1 at my first WLS doc visit, but my history simply shows that I've hovered around 38. Fingers crossed for both of us! My paperwork will be turned in sometime in early June.

    I'm Here

    Excited for you!
  8. I started the process last year and gave up pretty quickly. I wasn't ready. I am now. I asked myself what I was afraid of and realized the only thing I was afraid of was losing my ability to eat as much as I wanted whenever I wanted. Haven't I done that for the past 32 years? I've never stuck to a diet for more than a few months at a time. So for maybe a year - total - out of my life I haven't just eaten whatever I wanted. I don't NEED to do that anymore. What I NEED to do is get healthy - for myself, my kids, my spouse. It's not as if you'll never be able to eat the foods you love again. Instead, you'll have a taste or two and be done. You'll find other outlets for your emotions - whether they're joy, sorrow, fear... Don't be afraid to lose weight. Don't be afraid to become a healthier version of yourself.

I Need A Buddy In The Dfw Area!

Just found this thread and thought I'd bump it up! I live/work north of Dallas. I'm hoping to be approved for surgery soon. My husband was banded about 2 years ago and has lost about 130 lbs in that time (started at 380lbs).
  10. I hope you hear something soon! Only reason I was able to decide on a doc was because my husband went to him 2 years ago. I'm not typically a big fan of doctors (have had some bad experiences) and so I'm very cautious! Sounds like this could just be a paperwork issue. Maybe it takes some time for things to get processed/entered in the system? Either way - good luck!

    Dfw Area Here- Mid Cities

How much down time did you have after surgery? I'm really hoping I can sneak this in on a four day weekend or something. My husband was lucky and his work gave him 3 weeks of paid short term disability. I don't have that luxury. I also just have a desk job and no lifting. (he was given the STD because he has some lifting at work).

I'm in the DFW area, too! What challenges did you have in the first two weeks? Just curious.

    Glad I Found This Forum!

...she says as she double-posts! Haha
  14. Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself! My husband had lapband about 2 years ago and did wonderfully well. Now I'm ready to take the plunge! I should have all my insurance requirements squared away in about two weeks. I'm amazed how quickly it's gone by! I thought about having this surgery last year and more or less chickened out. I told myself I could do this on my own if I just tried harder. Here I am - still obese. My mom has type 2 diabetes and I worry that I'm following in her footsteps. Time to make a change! I look forward to reading through the posts here - seems like a great community.

  17. Another thing! I don't want to tell anyone until I'm actually approved. To me... that's like telling someone you're pregnant when your period's 2 days late! If I don't get approved for some reason, I don't want to have to go back and tell everyone and get those sad-puppy-dog-eye looks... ugh!
  18. This was great to read. I've been struggling with this myself. Part of my reason to hold back is that my own sister reacted badly to me telling her I was considering it. Of course, I will wind up telling my siblings and my mom already knows. My husband knows (he got his band in 2010). I don't think I will tell anyone at work. I will likely just keep it to my immediate family and close friends. As someone else said - if I'm asked, I won't lie...but I won't volunteer the information. It's not anyone's business! I also have the advantage (never thought I'd say that before!) that most of my weight is in my middle, so it will probably take a while for people to really notice and even then, most people won't notice my weight loss through work clothes for a while.
