Struggling.........hard
retired-loser replied to kcage's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry you are having problems, but it will pass....have faith...we have all been through that stage. One thing that helped me was staying home to eat. Mind you, it was not fun and did curtail my social life somewhat, but I just went out to a restaurant for the first time last week, and I am 3 1/2 mo out. I just knew that I didn't want to/couldn't deal with that too. It was easier to be at home where I knew what I was eating. If you have your families backing, I would suggest that. Hang in there...it gets better. -

Kaiser San Diego Options Classes
retired-loser replied to BubbysMeema's topic in Insurance & Financing
I can't speak about the Kaiser SD classes, but I did go through the Kaiser Fontana Options program. It is 12 weeks of classes, and I found them really beneficial. I am just shy of 6 weeks out and because of the classes I know how to handle certain things, and what is normal and what isn't. I does take a while. My suggestion is to just keep calling their bariatric center and asking when you will start the classes. If it is like Fontana, there will be several classes running every week. Good luck to you!! -
Best of luck with your surgery! Like most of us here, I think you will be glad you did it.

I Just Want To Lose A Size!
retired-loser replied to Writergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I feel your frustration, but you are losing. I am about 5 1/2 weeks out so we must have had our surgeries about the same time. You have lost more than me so far....I'd say that is a success. I tend to want things NOW too, but I have to remind myself, "that is not the way things work." Remember...losing slowly is better than not losing at all! Stay tough!! -
I am 5 weeks out today and thought I was doing pretty well. Nothing I have eaten has really caused me problems. My problem is making sure I get enough calories, specifically Protein into my diet. This weekend I had a couple days where I felt really nauseous......day and night. No new foods added; couldn't figure out what the problem was. After much back-tracking I realized that I had not eaten much those two days, and NOT eaten enough protein. The next day, I made sure I ate enough protein, and ate more frequently. Ta-da...no nausea! OK....lesson learned. I HAVE to eat...and that's a new one for me .

Knee Replacement
retired-loser replied to ProudGrammy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I began this whole process because I need knee replacement and after speaking with 2 orthos, was told I had to lose weight before either would do the surgery, in fact they recommended WLS. The thought of another surgery just about makes me crazy, but my quality of life has become so rotten that it is not even an option anymore...I HAVE to do it. I had my sleeve on 1/23 and have lost 41 lbs to date........about 50 more to go for the surgery to be done. In the meantine, the worst part is that not only am trying to deal with the sleeve stuff, but a knee that is just killing me. Hard to keep up the smiles! But, I am doing this for long range benefits and I WILL get through this........hopefully me family will still want to be around me after all this....lol. Stay strong.......we are all in this together!! -

While I was on the pain medication, not only did I have wild, crazy dreams, but also nausea. Needless to say, the pain meds went out the window!!

I'm 58, 3 Months Post Op, Retired And Traveling.....and Losing Weight!
retired-loser replied to Queen of Crop's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So nice to hear you are managing travel AND a fairly new sleeve! I am also retired and travelled a lot before it got close to having my sleeve done. Even though I am only 2 weeks out, I am beginning to get the travel bug again. We are going to Panama for a couple of weeks in April.......I will be just short of 3 mo. Any suggestions?? -
Why Do People Not Get Excited!
retired-loser replied to starsleeve's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
People are funny about such things, and they all have their own issues with food and weight. Maybe some have heard of negative experiences, are jealous or just simply don't like change (theirs OR yours) This is why I didn't tell many people before my surgery.......I just didn't want the observations and judgements, however well meaning they thought they were being. Remember you can't change others, just yourself..........be excited, your life is about to change drastically for the better. And keep posting....we will all be excited for you!! -

I'm 58, 3 Months Post Op, And Very Happy With My Sleeve!
retired-loser replied to Queen of Crop's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Glad to hear you are doing well! I am also 58 and had my sleeve 2 weeks ago. At the beginning I wondered what a woman MY age was doing here. Your post gave me inspiration. I guess it is NOT when you sleeve, but that you DO sleeve! -
Yesterday, I had my first outing, to the grocery store. Luckily my son went with to help. I felt pretty good until the end. By then I was TIRED! I guess I didn't realize just how much surgery takes out of you! Today was a good day! I am 2 weeks out and according to my doctor's schedule, I got to go to the mushy stage of food today. Never would have thought that 1 oz. of tuna and 1/8 c. applesauce would have made me happy, but it did. I think, and hope the tide is beginning to turn. The first 2 weeks were hard, but hopefully it will be easier to get all my protein in now, something I have struggled with. Tomorrow I have my 1st post-op check up. Life has gotten so much better than about 10 days ago when I wondered, "what the @*$%) did I do?" I think I can do this!

Protein Source/type Controversy - Premier?
retired-loser replied to LoserMama's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I drink the Premier shakes too, first thing in the morning...kind of my own personal "protein jolt" for the day. I mix the chocolate & vanilla 1/2 and 1/2, otherwise the chocolate is too chocolaty for me. Just wish I could locate their strawberry flavor!! -
What's A High Protein Drink?
retired-loser replied to firstday's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi...my surgery was on the 23rd!! The best tasting high protein drink I have found is the Liquid Premier Shakes. They offer 30 g protein in an 11 oz. carton and come in Chocolate and vanilla. I actually like the taste of them, although I wish I could find the strawberry flavor!! The Premier website sells them, but is out of strawberry currently. Costco has them in chocolate & vanilla for about $24.00 for 18 cartons. Hope this helps.....best of luck to you!! -
How To Find Peace With Your Sleeve When Over 50!
retired-loser replied to SandSandles's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Kudos to you...you are an inspiration! This IS a tough journey...I almost can't wait for someone to dare to tell me I took the easy way out...haha let me at them!! You and your bid girl panties hang tough!! -
I had my surgery the same day, and have been dealing with many of the same problems. Yesterday was so bad that I finally just broke down and cried...then my daughter reminded me thatI was waisting liquids!!! Had to leaugh at that one. I don't have alot of pain, but have a lot of nausea. Called the help-nurse who reminded me that the pain meds, which contain codene, make you nauseous. I cut that out and today I feel better, although not quite 'right' yet. I am already sick of the sweet drinks! Remember, there are alot of us in this together; you are not alone. Today I have lived on sf popcycles and try to remind myself that this HAS to pass soon!! Hang in there!

I am 6 days out from my VSG and while the pain has not been too bad, the nausea has been AWFUL! Fir the last 2 nights (since I have been home) I will just be sitting ina chair, trying to watch TV, sand will all of a sudden get a severe case of the dry heaves. I know that because of this I am not getting in enough protein, even liquid. After that I fall asleep, I have perscribed nausea meds, and have taken them, but not working reall well. Anyone else going through this?
