Decided To Switch From Vsg To Rny
mendymayhem replied to bakawaka's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I hope everything turns out just the way you want it and your journey is a huge success! -
Surgery was 10/22/12 and everything went really well. And 17 pounds lost since surgery. I'm thrilled but I also feel really weepy. Maybe it's lack of good sleep. Plus, I am so sick of sweet tasting things. The shakes, jello,Popsicles ....yuck. On Sunday I can add some strained veggies , maybe that will help. I have lots of support and help which I really appreciate. But right now I just feel like locking the door, turning off the phone and crawling into bed. Blahhhhhh! Anyone else really emotional?

Thanks Pipula. I keep hearing about injury. Guess I'll go do a little research. I appreciate the comments and encouragement

I don't have any regrets either. It really has been an amazing recovery. I did get a horrible headache for about 4 days after surgery, but that's long gone! Congratulations on 24 lbs gone! That amazing! I had my post op appointment yesterday and I am down 17 lbs. woot woot! Sadly, my diet won't progress until Sunday. And I plan on eating a little bit of yam and the next day a little bit of mashed potatoes. My doctor takes the healing of the remaining stomach very seriously. So I'm gonna follow his directions to the letter. Heavy Sigh.

You look amazing! Congratulations to you! Can I ask, what has your exercise program been like? -
The cream soups do help. Cream of potatoes is my favorite so far. I just want something to salt and pepper! Thanks for the encouragement . And today is gorgeous where I live, so I'm going to put on my ugly garden Crocs and go poke around the yard for awhile!

Hi There! We were sleeved the same day! I hope things are going smoothly for you and you have no regrets. Hang in there.

Pasta Alternatives?
mendymayhem replied to Carly4HandinSD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try spaghetti squash. Cut it in half and clean out the seeds. Then place face down on a cookie sheet and bake untill soft . Then use a fork and pull the spaghetti strings out. Very tasty with sauce, or just salt and pepper. Enjoy! -
Sorry for your frustration ! I went through similar issues. My advice is this: Keep calm and professional , the results will be better. Keep notes on all your phone calls, referring to them reminds those you are speaking with that you are not a flake who will just go away. Keep copies of your medical records at home. There were times my PCP wouldn't come through and I had to fax records to other doctors and insurance. When someone says they will take care of whatever the next step is, let them know you will make a follow up call and ask when would be a reasonable time to do that. Hang in there and vent your frustrations here. There always seems to be at least one person who can relate to whatever your going through!

I'm trying to find a 10/22 buddy, and I'm having no success at tracking down anyone from the October list. If anyone is interested, and you know how ( cause I clearly don't ) send me a private message and we can go from there. Six days and we'll be on the road to "after"!

Surgery Moved Up To Next Monday... Wooot And Aaaahhhhh!
mendymayhem replied to funkeechiggen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is on the 22nd as well. 7:30 am. I have started the twice daily shower with surgical scrub soap, and on Saturday I start the two day liquid diet. I'm dreading the wheeling away from my family, very emotional. I have the utmost confidence in my surgeon, but I dread leaving them anyway. Just trying to keep busy the next few days. I've been power cleaning, washed and hung clothes from last time i lost weight, I'd like to plant some peas and onions...we'll see if that actually happens. This time next month the whole ordeal will be behind all of us October sleevers. We will all be on our way to better health and vitality! -
My Imagination+Jitters?
mendymayhem replied to jennifer4444's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I have heard of some problems , and the scary thing is, they weren't the caused by the patients. But then they weren't caused (with the exception of an arrogant dr, who wouldn't listen) by the surgeon either. There are risks. I do think that as the date draws nearer ( my surgery is 10/22/12), the reality of it all hits harder. This is a huge deal, no going back. But I don't feel I have any viable options at this point. So I plan to do all in my power to heal correctly and completely. Which brings me to something that just blows me away. I keep reading of people who are just a couple weeks out eating things that are not allowed until week three or four or longer by my doctor. I realize that all doctors are different , but there does seem to be a pretty standard start up plan. A woman at my pre-op appt was two weeks out eating way beyond the two week point ( we have the same dr) and says she doesn't supplement or count protein! That just scares me. I hope that everyone will follow their doctors advice and allow their sutures to heal properly. -
So my pre op visit is next week, and surgery is 10/22. I've been doing mostly protein shakes for the last few days. Maybe 1000 calories per day. I feel exhausted and kind of weak. My question is this.....will this be how it is after surgery when calories are even less or does the procedure eliminate the body's "need" for more ? I am taking vitamins and vitamin D. thanks.....

Hi All, I'm wondering about sugar cravings after surgery. Have any of you lost a desire for sweets since being sleeved? My surgery is October 22, and I really want to lose the craving for sweets. Last week I was distracted by it thoughts of cheesecake and ice cream! Of course I didn't have them ( I finally went for a no sugar added frozen yogurt Yesterday). I just hope that I can lose the cravings and not have to fight it anymore. Thanks for your input!

I meet with my surgeon on 10/15/12 for my last pre op visit. He required me to lose 13 pounds and I did. BACK IN MAY! I have put five back on and I'm freaked out on losing it. I do great during the day , but I am eating high calories at night. So I'm lookin for a pep talk. My surgery is 10/22/12 and I want my liver out of the way for the procedure . Hope to here from some of you who have delt with this situation. Untill then....

I got my date about a week ago. Monday , October 22, 2012! My last pre op is on 10/15 and I still have about five pounds to lose. I hardly seems like a reality yet.

I'm pre-op but wondering....how did you all handle preparing meals for your family's during the first months after surgery? Was it an emotional ordeal? With no appetite , was it just no big deal? And what about family get togethers before you were eating again, did you feel left out or sad? I appreciate your responses. Thanks.

Yea! But I Do Have A Gross Question.
mendymayhem posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It happened! Last week I got authorization from my insurance. And today I got my surgery date.... October 22, 2012! Too excited to be nervous yet. But I do have a question for all you post ops. At some time down the line, I'm bound to get the stomach flu. Just how does the throwing up in that kind of situation work? I mean the stomach will be so small, but with the flu, you vomit so much. I realize this is a bizarre question and totally putting the cart before the horse, but I'm just that kind of girl. Questions, questions, questions! -
What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
mendymayhem replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Two years after diagnoses of diabetes, I felt like I was losing the battle. Three months after being released from the hospital I had brought my a1c from 12.6 to 5.7. After a few more months it began to climb. I realized what is meant by a progressive disease. It is so scary to realize how out of control your body can become, and to feel so helpless. To know the damage that will come in the future to my organs, limbs. I started research a year ago this month. Tomarrow my surgeons office is sending for authorization . I have a husband I love dearly, two grown daughters, two son in laws and two precious grandchildren. I want to participate un encumbered in their lives and I want to live mine. -
What Is A Pst Test And How Is It Done?
mendymayhem posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have to go get one in a few hours. I'm a little nervous about it. I think because I get conflicting info online, and don't know of anyone who has had this done. Any info would be great. Thanks -

It is a pulmonary test. For lung function. -
I'm so sorry for what you're going through. My mother was very abusive. Mostly emotional, I feel thats the worst. The scars of her cigarette burns healed years ago, but I still hear the words of cruelty. As a child I didn't realize this, but my mom was sick, mentally sick. I don't mean to imply that your mom is. my mom was also scared. Scared of my independence , of my having a life or activity that she was not the absolute center of. She would verbally humiliate me around new people in order to keep me from reaching out again and developing any sort of closeness. Enough, because I could go on and on, she had such a hold and it had nothing to do with my culture, just her power over me. One day I decided I would never let her hear me cry over her cruelty ( I cried in the shower ect instead), then one day I decided I would not react to her taunts anymore. This all took time, but it took all the power out of her hands. I was kind, respectful, helpful, and upbeat around her, regardless of her cruelty . Eventually, it worked. She didn't have that power over me anymore. I wanted desperately for a healthy relationship with her. I have finally learned that we can't force anyone to want or work for the relationship we desire. So she passed away living the way she wanted. And although I still miss not having a mother who nurtured me, I have a clean conscience about how I treated her. Please, if you have resources for support use them. And remember to look at yourself through our creators eyes, not your mothers. You are a beautiful person with beautiful qualities and of course flaws you can work on as well. This is a great place for encouragement so come here often! Thinking of you, mendymayhem. :-)
