HI , I was banded March 20, 2007 by Dr. Kuri. I flew into San Diego from Georgia and have had great results. I have yet to have my first fill and am loosing slowing but surely. ( 25 pounds ) Best surgery experience I have ever had!! 8950 was my fee, however, I think he runs specials since he does not go through a middle man. Call his office direct!!!

Question about food getting stuck...
TRANAM1955 replied to CajunCutie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
HI Folks, I am scheduled to see a fill doctor on Tuesday and will discuss the symptoms I am having to see if I need a fill. During my surgery, Dr Kuri discovered and repaired a hiatal hernia. The first few weeks after surgery, I stuck to the liquid and soft foods and had no problem. However, moving into regular food it is a hit and miss. Pasta is a no no and chicken fingers for sure....I purchased alot of healthy choices and can eat cheese based items, but cheese is not good for elimination. I think during my bronchitis, I blew out my hiatal hernia. Maybe this doc can give me some answers as I really do not want to live the rest of my life with wondering if what I eat one day will make me throw up or gag the next day?? I quit smoking 10 days ago so I am showing signs of a little more hunger. That is why I am going to get an adjustment. I just pray it does not close me up. -
Hope you are feeling okay? All of us react differently to surgery, but for me it was a wonderful experience. Good Luck!!!

3 day post op and PAIN!!
TRANAM1955 replied to Susan3343's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are running a fever, contact your doctor I did have gas pains in different parts of my body. I did not have shoulder pain this time, but have had it years ago after a gall bladder surgery. Felt like a heart attack!!!! Do check with Doctor and maybe he has a suggestion other than gas-x and walking. -
We all have days where we are not on target....we did that all our lives with diets and would say, to heck with it. Today, you have a tool to help you. I am nearly 7 weeks post op and still have foods that get stuck. I can not eat everything. No fills yet, and I don't want any. Good Luck...You can do it!!!!

I was scheduled to get a fill 2 days ago, and to make a long story short, they cancelled. However, I lost 3 pounds last week so I feel as long as I am loosing I will not get a fill. I still get hungry and sometimes eat too quickly. Thus I get stuck and slime and gag and etc etc. I have learned it is better for me to eat 4 to 6 small meals a day. Example: 1 pack of oatmeal in the morning, 4 meatballs for lunch, some kind of soft snack, deviled eggs really deviled and squished, Soup or refried Beans for supper. A pudding in the evening. I am not able to eat a lot of different foods yet. I think my hiatal hernia came back when I had coughing attacks 2 weeks ago. But, I am eating enough. Good luck on your journey!!!

I started at a tight 24/26 and all my clothese are really loose. I have some 22's from last year and will wear them but will not buy clothese until the 18/20 mark. I look great at a 14 but hope to be a 12. I want to enjoy my work the next 12 years until retirement, and just want to feel good standing on my feet.

You will love your band. Good luck on your journey!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Kudo's to you for following through and getting banded during your 3 month stay. Determination is what it takes to make things happen. I was banded 3/20 and am going for my first fill today. A little nervous, but I am confident it will be A-Okay. Please keep us posted. -
Banded on Thursday, April 19th!
TRANAM1955 replied to Superali72's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
HI Allison....Welcome to lapband land......I was sore around the port incision and I kept a pillow on my stomach when I sat for a while.....( no babies....a doggie)...It helped if I had to cough....and to protect myself when my dog had to sit in my lap. -
HI....about 2 weeks post op I developed a terrible pain on my right side. Below the rib cage....I had it checked by the doctor. She said my kidney's were fine and I probably just pulled something. I believe now I had some of the operation gas still trapped in my body. After 4 or 5 days, it did go away. However, if your pain is intense, see your doctor.

HI Folks, I started coughing on Sunday eve, Monday was rough and by Tuesday I was hacking all day long. At sometime Tuesday night I must have pulled a muscle in my stomach. I was freaking out!!! Went to my local doctor and he checked my incisions carefully cause he thought I might have created a hernia. He said he did not think I had a problem. He said it was not the lapband for sure. What a relief!!! NOW IF I CAN QUIT COUGHING I WONT FEEL THE PAIN. I am dissappointed in my weight loss. I have only lost 18 pounds and most of that was in the 2nd week after surgery. I am back on regular foods but tried to eat ribs yesterday and they got stuck. Today I went with soft foods. I am not scheduled for a fill until May 26. Well, the main point of my post is to tell everyone...."DO NOT COUGH HARD":clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Hi, I began throwing up profusely. I thought it was nerves as my son was getting married. However, I was fine one moment and then I would throw up with no warning. They did an ultra sound and found a gigantic gall stone. My doctor showed it off to colleagues for a week. I, too was on low carb diet before the attacks. The surgery was a breeze. Much easier than the lap band. I would not hesitate to get mine out again. I even drove myself home from the hospital the next day. I did have a couple of phantom attacks a couple of weeks after the surgery but after those, I felt fine and have never had any discomfort again. Good luck!!!

haital hernia and still have surgery? will ins pay?
TRANAM1955 replied to skatkat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had been told many years ago I had a hernia but nothing ever surfaced. After my surgery, Dr Kuri said, Did you know you had a hiatal hernia, I said well kinda, and he said "Well, you don't have it anymore" So, it was great to get that repaired as well as my band in place. -

TRANAM1955 replied to sweeTHEArt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

HI, Good luck on your banding....and I am so glad you have this opportunity at a young age. I have roller coastered for most of my 52 years. I have told most people that know me at work etc I got banded....I have to clarify with them the fact I will not pick up anything heavy for the 6 week period. I am not going to ruin my investment. Share what feels right for you!!! -
How often do you PB?
TRANAM1955 replied to lins12's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Wow....it hit me by surprise....I was eating a deviled egg....chewed very welll....and pow....it was stuck in my throat?? I had to stand up and walk around and finally gagged and a small amount of liquid came out....was not like throwing up or vomiting....more like a baby spit up?? Threw me for a loop. So I stuck with my soft mashed potatoes. -
HI Folks, I am 17 days post op and really feel great....however, my right kidney is sore and tender. My urine color is still light yellow so I dont think I am in ketosis or dehydrated? I do not think it is a gas pain because it is not going away. Did any of you have one kidney only be painful or tender?

Right kidney - lower back pain?
TRANAM1955 replied to TRANAM1955's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was still experiencing pain on the right side so I went to a walk in clinic today, ( my doctor was closed ) and the PA said I had a mild urinary tract infection. I asked her several times was she sure I did not have a problem with my kidney and she said no. I am also experiencing pain or tenderness on my back on the right side. So, she thinks it is the urniary tract infection and the fact I have been sedentary most of this week. ( I worked from home and was on the computer for 15 hours most days ) I am on antibiotics and took some ibuprofen. It has been 5 days since I had a BM and I guess my body is kinda stoppin up? I took some stool softeners so maybe tomorrow will be a better day. Sorry if it is TMI, but I feel some one else may have this happen and they should know it will be okay. -
HI, When the driver picks you up from the airport, and transports you to the hotel, you will want to tip him 10.00. At the hotel, the bellmen usually get 3.00 to 5.00. If they make a midnight run for you across the street for diet cokes, ( pre surgery ) you spot them a 10.00 We ate at TGIF across from the hosptial 2 times and had room service delivered at the hotel. Charged about 100.00 US Dollars. Went to Revolucion Avenue and had picture taken on a donkey cart. I gave him 10.00 for 2 pictures. I bought a turquoise necklace and could not handle all the "come here lady and look at my stuff" so we got a taxi....only cost 7.00 with a tip....took the taxi a couple of times and it was always cheap. My friend who went with me had to eat regular food the day I had surgery and the next day so that cost 50.00 or so. All in all, I would think if you go alone, you only need 150.00 cash, and if someone goes with you, around 300.00 cash.

HI Rosie, I am really doing well....I am able to work from home a few days and appreciate that....I was very swollen the first 7 days and then, POOF, the swelling went down. Pain is very minimal. At day 16 post op, I can honestly say I have no discomfort. My incisions are good. I only have a pad on my portal scar. The others are pretty well healed. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR SURGERY:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:
