    Dr. Aceves/sept. 29Th

I was done there for a band removal in June and wii be there for my sleeve in December. I went alone and so did another gal. It's safe, comfortable and about the best experience you can imagine for abdominal surgery. Dr. A and Dr. Campos are great.

    What To Eat While Fishing

They have the little pouches of seasoned tuna which are delicious and don't need to be refrigerated.
  6. Rescue-check out the Mexico/SelfPay Forum. It's pretty informative and you can get lots of insights about various doctors in Mexico and cost effective alternatives to Mexico if you prefer. I really like Dr. Aceves and he seemed like one of the more experienced revision surgeons. See www.mexicalibariatric.com. I had my band removed in June and will be going back for a revision in December. My sleeve will cost $9,500 and I paid $5,000 for the removal. But, most revisionistas who go to Dr. Aceves get it done in one procedure for $10,500. It's a little pricier than some in Mexico but the quality of the team, hospital, and general pre/post coordination is top notch in my opinion. Having said that, there are so many great surgeons so I'm confident you will find a great match. Good luck in your journey.

Advice Please From Folks With Leaks!

Thank you all for your responses. This is why I LOVE this board. As an update, I have been communicating with my surgeon (Dr. Aceves). I am proceeding with the Sleeve in December. Yes, there is risk of a leak and it is definitely is higher than a virgin sleeve (but not as high as I originally understood). Yes, I am scared because a leak sounds incredibly unpleasant and fatal if not treated promptly. But, I am trying to minimize the risk by going with one of the most experienced revision surgeons in the world. I am waiting 6 months since the removal and Dr. Aceves feels its more or less the same waiting 6 months and waiting a year or more. Even though Dr. Aceves doesn't have a specific opinion about an antiinflammation diet, I plan to start one. Also, I feel like the odds of remaining unhealthy without the surgery is a near certainty. Thanks again all for your thoughtful responses.
  17. Suzanne, your messages are so inspiring. Thank you for being such a wonderful angel of hope and goodwill.
  18. Drinking too soon before or after eating does two negative things: first, since your sleeve doesn't expand as much, you can overfill your sleeve and it may cause you to throw up. Second, drinking too soon before or after "washes" the food down too fast, defeating the purpose of the sleeve so you get hungrier sooner.

Scar Tissue With The Band?! :(

I had my band removed in early June and have to wait until December for my sleeve because I had a band erosion and related scar tissue. At first, I was pretty depressed but know waiting is better than having a leak. Dr. Aceves, my surgeon, will do the revision in one surgery so long as there isn't an erosion or some other complication. It seems the practices vary quiet a bit so if you have the ability speak to a few different surgeons, i highly recommend doing so. Also be sure to ask how many revisions your surgeon has completed as revisions are more complicated than a virgin sleeve. good luck on your journey and hope you can get it done in one surgery!
  21. Sounds like you have a plan! I'm waiting for my sleeve (had eroded band removed in June) and I think we will be sleeved around the same time (December). It'll be worth the wait to make this process as safe as possible. Best of luck on the next phases of your journey!

    Conversion's A-Comin'

Best of luck on your journey. Sounds like the band was quite an ordeal for you. Had mine removed in June. It was eroded so no sleeve for me for 3-6 months. Doc says less risk of complication if I wait the 6 months so it won't be until December. Trying to hold my weight steady.....

    What Doctor?

I've heard great things about many of the doctors but my vote is for Dr. Aceves and his entire team (including the top notch hospital). But do your research, talk to a few folks who have used that surgeon and follow your heart. The good news is that there are lots of very experienced surgeons in Mexico.
