    16 Weeks

Great job .....12 weeks out, no fills , have already lost 58 pounds. Agree the best thing is to work out. it helps so much and if i do eat something high calorie i do not beat myself up over it. I know I am going to be putting in 3 miles and weight work. My doctor told me restriction is only 20 percent .. the other 80 percent needs to come with hard work and lifestyle changes. If you have no changes then you will not see the long term results good luck everyone. First fill in 2 weeks.
  2. Banded June 6th. On to puréed / mushies. Will not have a fill for another 3 weeks. Down 30 pounds. Just sticking to the plan even though I have little restriction. I want to heal fully and I want to work at this. I find it helpful to always have something to drink and I eat probable 5 times a day of course small meals. Hard boiled egg whites have been great and I still rely on muscle milk or my Protein shake if needed. Need to get on the veggie kick but not sure I can do puréed veggies and recipes or suggestions would be great. I just want to get some in me for the Fiber and nutrition value. Good luck everyone.

    Caffeine

Most physicians tell you to stop drinking coffee due to the fact it is a diaretic and they want to make sure your getting enough Fluid prior to drinking. I drink probable 12 oz a day I'm 4 weeks post op have little restriction due to no fill yet and have no problem but I also drink over 60 oz of Water a day. Everyone is different though
  4. This is something to grab attention. My psychologist who did my pre op eval is a leader in mental health for bariatric patients. We spoke about this prior and it really is not a major issue. Yes there is the exception to everything. Just like some patients put back on even more weight after lap band. Scientific articles published by yahoo are edited to sound good. You need to read the entire article and how the study was done.
  5. 7 days post op here to , i am on liquids for two weeks take everything slow. i was so nervous the first couple of days but i enjoy shakes. throw some ice cubes in them and mix in a blender gives it a milk shake consistency. Trust your body if you can't keep any liquids down then call your doctor asap like the previous post said you may need some meds which is common. Do not compare yourself to anyone else ....everyone's body is different you have people on here that were on liquids for 4 days post op or people like me 2 weeks. its all different and greek yogurt is great even add to some pudding its good. high Protein. i doubt anyone on here will tell you that the liquid phase was wonderful but it is needed so your stomach can heal. You will make it through it. Call your doctor, hang in there its tough but you will make it. everything is in steps....take it slow.

Anybody Cheat While On Pre Op Diet???

Actually only about 3 years ago was it normal practice to do the pre op diet. If you cheat it's fine but get back on track. It's more important for gastric and sleeve patients but in a recent study Done only 1 percent of operations had to be stopped due to liver size though that was in patients with a 55 plus bmi. It's a great jump start to your weight loss good luck and stay strong.
  7. Hi all post op day two, banded on Wednesday. Came home yesterday around 5pm. I have horrible back and should pain but most likely from the carbon dioxide exiting my body. Worried though where they placed the port is swollen and tender to the touch. When I stand up it actually is a bump. Not sure if it will go down but worried something is wrong or my port is always going to stick out which Is embarrassing. Also pain in my abdominal on the side of the port when I try to get out of bed or use my abdominal muscles. Is this normal I have read so much that people have no pain etc etc. I have pain mess but any feed back would be appreciated. Thanks and good luck everyone.
  8. Post op day 5. Feeling so much better. Not using the pain meds anymore. Stil some discomfort but nothing crazy. Biggest issue has bee making sure I get in my 60 grams of Protein. Still have gas pain and have not really had a bm (tmi I know ) since the day prior to surgery. Taking colace and going to start Fiber supplements. Any suggestions thanks everyone.

    Post Op Day 2

Thanks guys I'm glad to know I am not the only one. I live by the gas x strips as well and I find that the more I walk the better the gas. I am going back to work on Tuesday. As long as I see improvement each day I will be happy. Everyone keep me updated on their progress. Start to a new beginning.

    Post Op Day 2

So post op day 3 a little better. Walking today alot , though I still have pain on my right side where the port was placed and it is swollen. My insides feel like they are being stretched when I get up or out of bed. Still taking pain mess. Just read on this forum that people have no pain and are back to normal after 2 days. Any feed back would be great. Thanks everyone.

Im One Of The Banded Now!

Sombra, I was banded Wednesday and I feel the same way. The incision by the port hurts like hell. You described it perfectly that it feels lie someone is ripping your insides out. Even sleeping is a task, if I move it hurts and I need help getting out of bed. Good luck and thanks for posting. Keep me updated on how everything is going.
  12. Banded today. Right now laying in the hospital. Pain is not horrible. More around the port site, I hope that it improves. Doctor said everything went well. Can't believe it's done. The team was great, just hope in a couple of days I feel better.
  13. Thanks so much I feel much better. I will keep you posted after I am banded.
  14. Surgery this Wednesday. Nervous but 32 and looking forward to getting healthy. Good luck everyone.
  15. I only told my wife. I do not feel it is anyone else's business. Also I know people who have had weight loss surgery and people are supportive at first but then god for bid any weight is put back on or the wrong food is being eaten. I hear what people say and I was one of those people. I have an extremely supportive wife and I'm working out eating right is my response to when I lose weight. Good luck to all its everyone's one choice.

    Scheduled 6/12/12

Yep doing a 1000 calorie diet. Does not have to be liquid but 1000 calories. Alot of doctors say liquid but the only way to shrink your liver is by reducing caloric intake. Two protein shakes a day and smart n
  18. Good luck everyone. The hospital I am getting the surgery done at directs patients to do a 1000 calorie diet. Basically the best way to do this is two Protein shakes and a smart one, also allowed 2 cups of veggies a day. Liquid is tricky because you could put down 2000 calories on liquid easily. The key to shrinking the liver is limited calories. Becareful with the shakes. A normal shake could range from 250-300 calories or more. fruit juice etc all has calories. I have had 8oz of baked chicken and some kidney Beans for dinner. Going on day 5 of 14 and down 10 pounds. Good luck also best protein is unjury.com. Tastes the best and mixes great.
  19. Just started my pre op diet may 23. Two weeks prior to my surgery which is scheduled June 6th. Only allowed 1000 calories a day and required to get the 60-80 grams of Protein in so whey Protein Shakes throughout the day and a smart one for dinner. Just trying to avoid placing myself in situatilons this weekend. Need to shrink that liver and want to follow this plan. Good luck everyone.

    Scheduled 6/12/12

Same here excited and nervous. Though the amount of support and information given by the medical team is unbeleivable. Just went to a mandatory two hours session where the dietician once again goes over each phase after surgery and then a PA came in and walked you through surgery starting with what to expect once you arrive to post op to discharge home. The team is really good i am glad I chose U Penn for the surgery. I am June 6th and I took 6 days. The NP told me I should be fine but it depends on your job. If surgery is on a Friday and you go home Friday ( my physician takes advantage of the 23hr obs and keeps PTs overnight) you are only giving yourself 2 days.. Good luck and let me know how you feel I might head back sooner if you feel good.

    Scheduled 6/12/12

Hey everyone as off now scheduled for June 6th. Looking forward to it and nervous.
  22. I am scheduled to have surgery June 6th and the only person that knows is of course my wife. I work in the healthcare industry and have had a family member who has had gastric. The perception from the the majority is usually good but I have seen the flipside. Individuals finding out and mocking the person or judging. I honeslty do not care what anyone thinks of me because I have been a big guy my whole life have alot of friends, never depressed etc. Though its time I have a baby on the way and need to be healthy. I have been on HTN meds for the last 7 year and I have tried all the diets. This is not the easy way, maybe for the first year when the weight comes off but it is maintaining the weight. I workout and run, just did a 5k last month. So when people ask im telling them i am eating right and worknig out which will not be a lie. Everyone is different, so not judging anyones decision. Good luck everyone.
