My weight gain didn't really start until after the birth of my second child. I gained an extra 20 lbs and was unable to lose it, fast forward 5 years, I decided after several different types of diets that I would try MediFast. It worked but soon after I returned to College in a high stress field and boom!!! Regained the 20 plus 30 more lb over the next 7 years. My BMI is in the low 30"s now, which may seem manageable but believe me, it has wrecked my life. I have DM2 in my family history and RA as well and I see it in my future soon if I can't control this. My weight has prevented me from family vacations, gatherings and other social events. The struggle to try and remain In the current size or the one size previously worn is a smack in the face every morning. I never thought I would go through this when I was in my 20's. Now it has been some time later and I want to regain control and not miss out on "life."
I found the information about the VSG done in Mexico online after finding out that in the US I was not considered high enough risk for the surgery. This required me to pay out of pocket and travel. It wasn't a hard decision. I set up an appointment for May 7, 2012. I am very nervous about crossing the US border into Mexico. I will be going alone. I also decided only to tell my husband because family and friends may mean well, but this is my journey and I feel that I need this time to adjust first myself. Once things are done and I have a few months under my belt (hopefully a much smaller belt ), I will let my family and a few close friends know. I am looking forward to that.
