Wow. This is like deja vu. I've been exactly where you are. With a guy for 10 years - the loveliest guy, kind, considerate etc. Towards the end of our relationship I was lusting after almost anything male and sleeping with my boyfriend repulsed me because it felt like I was sleeping with my brother! It was unkind of me to keep staying with him just because we were in a kind of happy habit. In the end I did break it off, a few months later I met the lust (and love) of my life, and 15 years on we are still in lust (and love). It is kinder to him to break off now, in my humble and completely unprofessional opinion. Let him find someone who lusts after him just the way he is.

Help......is This Normal?
PollyBlue replied to xelapaul's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's reflux I reckon. If your surgeon prescribed proton pump inhibitors (ppi's) you should take them. If not you should get them. You maybe need to get to your pcp to check on the wheezing because you don't want to aspirate stomach juices - it could lead to pneumonia. I'm no doctor or nurse by the way, I'm just summising and you're best to get a professional opinion. -
In five weeks I've lost seven pounds. So shaddup!! Just kidding. I really have only lost seven pounds. I'm doing what I'm told, except perhaps enough water. I'm hoping upping that will help. Down 34lbs since preop diet (started 4.5 weeks prior to op). Yeah. I'm a bit bummed.

Always Neaseated After Eating
PollyBlue replied to amber1974's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm five out and am living on Optifast coffee shakes with an added scoop of protein for breakfast. Lemmie tell you....foul!! Like you I feel like barfing about 15 minutes after finishing. It is putrid and hangs around. Just the thought of drinking the stuff makes me feel ill. I saw here yesterday that someone was mixing unflavoured protein powder with any food they ate. I think I'm going to try that as shakes are wearing thin. -
Mental Issues Connected To The Sleeve
PollyBlue replied to missemy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm like Mews. Had the big D mixed with anxiety pre op and now post op it can go a bit awry! I'm five weeks out and hormonal fluctuations are a biggie. Massive changes happening in our bodies. We need time to setlle back down. Right now are systems are screaming "WTFFFFFFFFFF!!" -
I Really Thought I Was Prepared
PollyBlue replied to 1maryreigel's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I remember the cramps post-op. Even six weeks out I still get the pain in the valve at the top of the tummy if I drink/eat too quickly. It's a little reminder to us! You sound like you've had it a bit rough. Hang in there, it gets better! -
My surgeon said I could drink whenever I wanted to post op, but to be VERY CAREFUL. Alcohol is absorbed by the stomach into the bloodstream and being sleeved means we can get drunk very quickly. I sipped a couple of wine spritzers at a party four weeks out and just one week out I drank two half-glasses of sav blanc with no ill effects. Your surgeon will recommend what he thinks is apt.

I'm with Jimmy. Heartburn sucks. I've found it a bit of a difficult adjustment psychologically despite all the reading and research done prior. Little things like lying a certain way in bed exacerbates reflux....having to eat mushies for what seems like a millenium...getting dizzy....being hypervigilant about fluids....it all takes getting used to. So many people say they love their sleeve. I don't - yet. I'm looking forward to the day when I do. It's normal to be "over" mushies. I felt the same way. It doesn't last long - it's easy to say that in hindsight.

Hi There Whilst this is a fantastic site with bazillions of fabulous people, there is also an australian site called gastric sleeve support dot com dot au. There are brilliant people there who arrange meet ups and offer support. This site has great info and support and the Australian one is probably better for finding out about surgeons and hospitals in Oz. Good luck with your journey!

Can't Get My Damn Protein Shakes In....help
PollyBlue replied to kmbrlycool's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so hearing you. I was fine with my Optifast shakes for weeks and weeks, but now I've had to add unflavoured protein powder to them (to get the extra protein) I want to throw up everytime I have one. I don't know how to get around this....other than to put a peg on your nose! -

Grrrrr Come On Already
PollyBlue replied to rodswife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We were sleeved around the same time and I was experiencing exactly the same thing as you. Losing inches, but not going down on the scale or clothes sizes. I'm working on the "get the protein and fluid in" principle. This morning I'm down two pounds from last week. Phew. -
Strep Throat, Mono, And Uti Making It Hard To Stay Hydrated
PollyBlue replied to Crystal Woods's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pharmacy will have some hydrolite ice blocks (I think you call them ice popsicles)....pop them in the freezer then suck away on the electrolytes. Not the tastiest thing in the world but you want to make sure you're getting those fluids. -
Yes I agree. Are you moving too quickly through the stages. Call your doctor because you don't want to get dehydrated. Very nasty.

Hi Everyone Five and a half weeks post op. This is a bit of an odd question (I'm good for those), but how do I know if I'm eating right for my sleeve? I tend to eyeball my portions and only eat till I feel comfortably full. I've never had discomfort (oh, only once) and I've never vomited. Discomfort and vomiting are obviously reliable indicators you've over eaten, but I'm wondering if it is possible to stretch your sleeve if you always eat until full - comfortably full. I seem to be able to get a load of fluids in - 400ml shake in 1/2 hour, more quickly if it's water. I also eat around 1/2 - 3/4 cup of reasonably thick food (like pureed stew) in without much trouble. I guess I'm just neurotic because I'm NOT measuring every little thing and perhaps not being vigilant enough. Thanks for your replies!!
-
Thanks Brook, Jazzie, dio, hollie and Jan. I guess it is just a case of listening to your tummy. I managed to eat a whole small piece of quiche last night (without the hard bit of the crust). I was full afterwards and couldn't have fit another thing in, but not uncomfortable. I'm just frightened of inadvertently stretching the sleeve - without being aware of it.
-
Completely normal post op reaction. I was told to expect it at around 3 days. It's due to many things, change, the op itself, anaesthetic, other meds, hormones released. Don't worry. It gets better. I'm five and a half weeks out and I still have bad days, but mainly good ones.

Sudden Vitamin Problems
PollyBlue replied to Carly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I agree with lessofme. I took a calcium pill yesterday and spent the afternoon with the foamies. Urgh. -
So Happy for you. And you are absolutely beautiful in that pic with your hubby. You must be delighted!
-
I hear you. It is a complete bummer and something that I though I would completely handle pre-op. Now I'm on the other side I realise just how much I did sip when eating. I think protein shakes make you thirsty too. I don't know how you get used to it, but apparently we will. I did make the mistake once of taking a swig on something too quickly post meal -and it was VERY uncomfortable. I hope you get used to it soon.
-
Yes! I think it can be combination of what jme said above and anaesthetics.
