May Sleeve Buddies!
Gastricsleeve4me replied to kellythestarr's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeved may 21...SW 250, weight yesterday 230. Exciting! Was doing well on liquids. Now that I'm adding in mushy foods slowly finding I need a new routine around water. The waiting before and after to drink throws me off! But I'll get there less head hunger than that first week, so that's encouraging for now! -

Disability Insurance And Mx Surgery
Gastricsleeve4me replied to IMSKINNY's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had no issue whatsoever. But suspect it varies. I have MetLife thru work. I called a few weeks before surgery and asked. They were clear from the start it wasn't a prob so long as they could contact the dr. My doc in mx (Aceves) had lots of experience dealing with disability claims, so I had no issue at all -
How And When Do I Start Disability Money
Gastricsleeve4me replied to newgrandmother11's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I called a few weeks before surgery to get the process started. But, for me, I think you can technically do it the first week you're out -
I travel a lot for work internationally and, comparatively, the US is out of control with portions across the board. You just can't get it. And people would look at you crazy of you asked. It's always been so much easier for me to eat normal portions when I travel outside the states. I could see how, if it was adopted broadly, it could impact people positively. So, for me, I say cut the portions. Nobody needs it and everyone else around the world survives just fine without it. I've heard people say that "being able to get a 60 oz soda is what this country is about". I must've missed that memo. For me, and just for me, "freedom" isn't about a super sized meal.

Tried the Greek yogurt and, yum!! Thanks! It's def a good enough sour cream sub for me.

This thread is like my new food porn, lol. Thankfully I'm feeling like a tbsp of refried beans and a dollop of Greek yogurt will do it for me in another week or so when sleevie is ready. But, oh the fantasizing is brilliant

Pain When I Breathe Deeply
Gastricsleeve4me replied to Gastricsleeve4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah...been walking 30-60 mins a day for five days. So not sure the gas would still be bothering me 2 weeks out? Maybe I'll shoot a note to the nurse. Weird! -
I Think I Am Going Crazy
Gastricsleeve4me replied to tkslexus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Man, I hear that! I also live alone. I just did a blog post today of a list of 15 things I can do when I'm bored instead of doing something with food! Link's in my signature if interested! -
~450 the first week, ~550 the second week...and then aiming for 600-800 going forward. Per my surgeon and nutritionist.

Dr. Aceves :-)
Gastricsleeve4me replied to Elisabethsew's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I found out two weeks before my Aceves date that my insurance WOULD cover my surgery. I met with the bariatric surgeon locally and his experience couldn't hold a candle to Dr. Aceves. I certainly could have found another surgeon in the US and saved myself some $$...but I was SO comfortable with my decision to use Dr. Aceves, I went anyway and self-paid. I think there are a number of great surgeons out there (Aceves being one of them), but in the end you have to find who's right for you. And he was the guy for me. So pleased. I don't regret forking out the cash for a second. Now, I'm only two weeks out, so perhaps ask me in 4 years But that's more about me learning to use my sleeve...and thankfully have a therapist and a nutritionist locally to keep me on task to make the most of what Dr. Aceves gave me! -
I have a list of stuff I bought and a blog post about what I did at gastricsleeve4me.blogspot.com. There's a link up at the top. I'm only 2 weeks post surgery and did my shopping before too

Been eight days since surgery. I worked from home today, which involved me sitting in an offic chair typing for about four hours. Noticed my tummy was feeling a little sore/tight so got up and moved around. Then went out to meet some friends and we were laughing pretty hard for a out an hour. Came home and my tummy is sore!! Lower left. After reading a bit sounds like this can be from engaging muscles and that a lot of the surgery takes place on the left side. So, now I'm in pain from laughing. I suppose there are worse things?!

About 12 days out and trying some new things here and there. Today I tried hummus and it ran right through me. Is that a sign that I should avoid that food for now? Try again another time? Revert back to liquid? Or just normal? Thanks!

Cost Of Vsg In Mexico
Gastricsleeve4me replied to AutumnPunkin's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
$8750 for dr Aceves. Really battled with it since others were cheaper...but when I compared the stats that were important to me, and couldn't find anyone with anything negative to say, I took some time to check my gut. And it just "felt" right. The best advice or heard from anyone is do your research, ask the things that are most important to you, and go with your gut! It just has to be right for you...not anyone else! -
I'm early...only 13 days out. But my NUT and my surgeon both recommended keeping carbs under 30g a day. I'm aiming for 600-800 cal/day, but only getting in about 500 now.

Things At Home ..
Gastricsleeve4me replied to euphoria.azul's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since surgery I've implemented a strict "only eating at the dinner table" rule. I'm still reading while I'm there, but hoping to phase that out too. Trying to break the mindless eating cycle. Forcing myself to eat at the table, makes me evaluate whether or not I'm really hungry and want to take the time to stop what I'm doing and enjoy the food I'm taking in. Also instituted "when I want to graze", I force a 10 min walk. If I still want it when I'm back, that's fine, but it's at the table. Will be a hard habit to break, but for me, a place to start. -
Water Flavoring, What's Your Favorite?
Gastricsleeve4me replied to lose4good2012's topic in Food and Nutrition
It's powder, but makes more of like a juice (depending on how much Water you add) than anything else. It does NOT give me the dry feeling that the isopure does. I'm still drinking isopure top, but enjoying the Syntrax better (syntrax is the brand...nectar is the "line" of powders). Highly recommend the sample pack, since people seem to vary on the flavors they like. I ordered it from mybariatricpantry.com and it came on only a few days -

Gastricsleeve4me replied to cissiesue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nice! If you want to up the protein, you can add a bit of unflavored protein powder...so long as it's not too hot (or it will clump). I bought unjury and I noticed it was one of their recipes! -
This is the one I found at my local market: http://www.bettylousinc.com/products_detail.php?id=287&ref=9. Sounds like PB2 is a popular brand too, but don't know the nutritional comparison.
