You will not get instant results and I learned that early on. Then I realized slow is the best way because any other nurse I worked with that had gastric bypass and NOT lap band lost fast and has gained it all back. So relax and it will happen. Remind yourself of your rules...eat slower 30 min, small bites chew well...this a life change not weight loss sprint. By the way I was banded 4/2012 and as of today I have lost 51 lbs so for 4months out you are doing well. The numbers going down is always good!!
  2. Ok I am sure I will get some negative feedback after this post but maybe that is what I need. I was banded 4/27/12 and have lost 15lbs just from pre-op to now. First fill is not until 6/6. At first I followed liquid diet I had no desire to eat and it would not have went down anyway. When I was allowed to eat soft foods I did it cautiously. However last 4 days I have been HUNGRY and have been eating, eating, eating following the same patterns that got me here!!! Although I still can't eat say a hotdog bun at this rate I will regain any weight loss by 6/6 feeling like a total failure and ashamed. Any constructive criticism and/or words of wisdom and why am I sooo hungry?

    Back Where I Started

OMG!!! I am in the same boat. I was banded 12/6/11 and have lost a total of 23 lbs. I am hungry a lot of the time and the doc keeps saying, when it gets adjusted right it will work. Well I have run out of co pays with so many adjustments. I can eat most things still and am ashamed that I do somewhat. If I could stick to a diet I would not have had to come here to begin with. I have cried so much recently that I am getting depressed. People look at me and my own mother called me fat ass, and she used to be 300 lbs before she had bypass and almost died. I started at 249 and today was 229 again. :<(((( I am so sorry..why won't ur doctor fill ur band? I am hearing good advice and reassurance that it will get better with fills...hang in there and keep me posted...good luck to you. Your mom is wrong...ignore that mess...I would love love love to be 229 right now.

    Psych Eval Question

After reading the posts esp by "buffalogirl" just saying was a bit shocked. As a registered nurse I was thankful that my doctor wanted me to have a pre-op chest xray and labs this is completely normal practice esp in pts who are obese or over 40 etc. You are going under general anesthesia and what may have been normal or undetected before could come up w/o knowledge. As for psych eval my physcian informed me that the 500 question test was to determine "gender issues". What doctor would willingly/knowingly do surgery on a pt w/ underlying psych issues? Malpractice is at an all time high...some people no longer work they sue. CYA not a problem here. I applaud doctors who protect themselves. Def do not stress and be totally honest it is informal visit and if someones intelligence is insulted? All I can say is wow.....
  7. You sound just like me post-op! i had a "tool" I had no idea how to use....I was banded on 4/27 and still think I am going a little insane trying to cope. Sometimes I just want to eat and other times I can't even think of it. Back hurt all day...ugh. My stomach grumbles too...strange feeling. Hang in there and thats good ur hubby is helping out...
  8. please someone tell me what green zone is??? And my friend I feel you...I am 8-days post-op and can not eat solids...but if I could would be battling as you are..my heart goes out to you..good luck
  9. By the way my pain...10/10 initially. So try to relax it is just a number and doesn't mean there is a problem. We all tolerate pain differently..pain is what the patient says it is. Registered Nurse as well and speak from patient experience.
  10. Walking does help....but post op my husband telling me that just made me irritated. I ended up staying overnight because they couldn't get my pain under control. All the whiile my room mate was up and at em'. My nurse pointed out the other patient was a little younger and NOT a diabetic as I am. We are all different. I am 8-days post op and no pain so there is an end to it. Heating pad helped me and yes take pain meds but drink your water because the next prob will be constipation. Ultimately time and gas passing will help you feel better. Good luck!

    In The Beginning

We are a family of 6...3 of which are teenagers. They enjoy their food. Me being excited about my journey has made them excited. They still eat what they like but make alot of effort to not do it in front of me. When I feel like slipping back into old habits my kids are my biggest fans and say "Mom, you can do this". I am still a mom and have to make dinner so my oldest will make the "sides" which are my trigger foods. I cook the meat because only 1 week post-op have no desire to try to choke that down. My girls will put away left overs to avoid temptation. Until I can take charge of the behavior that got me here my kids and husband cheer me on. My goal is when I can control myself I can take better control of how my family is eating. It is a work in progress. Our families love us and want us to succeed. Good Luck!
