Complications Almost 5 Months Post Op
StevieSmithtown posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had my surgery about 5 months ago and i've lost a lot of weight. i had very few complications at first but at 3 months out i had severe abdominal pain and spent a few days in the hospital. then again at 4 months, same terrible pain in mid right abdomen and spent another few nights in the hospital. gall bladder is normal. i had a swallow test and all it showed was that my stomach wasn't passing the food through fast enough. my surgeon said that was no big deal at all. now at 5 months i had the worst few days of vomiting everything that went in, even water wouldn't stay down. also had bad constipation followed by days of diarrhea. there is no pain now, however. this last episode lasted about a week and thankfully stopped completely yesterday. i've had an endoscopy which showed some inflammation in the stomach but doctor doesn't know why. it's just strange that these attacks are spread almost exactly a month apart. i'm keeping my fingers crossed for 6 months out!!!! -
Ok I'm almost 4 months out and lost about 100lbs since pre op. best thing I ever did!!! On June 30 I was admitted with terrible right quadrant abdominal pain, diarah, vomiting and misery. Two days later with some pain pills it resolved. Almost 30 days to minute I start getting same symptoms. This time I'm in ny Presbyterian for an aweful week ( not even on 14 north ). Test after test shows clean gallbladder, now blockage except for slow emptying of my tiny little pouch. Surgeon washed his hands of it. Endoscopy showed significant inflammation in stomach and biopsies taken (no news yet). For two weeks I'm I'm agony. Cat Scan shows hernia with fat and bowel leaking through. I have a Gastro appointment today to get a fresh set of eyes on it. Anybody else having something similar? Not happy but still loving being normal size.

wtf!!!!!!! I've never been this depressed. I know I'm in pain but I've been in pain before and never had an emotional component to it. It's debilitating. I don't want to work, play or do anything. I'm hiding it from my kids as best as possible but they see something is up. My wife is starting to get annoyed and I don't blame her. Anybody else experiencing something like this. I've never had this before. I was so much happier as a big fat guy. Wtf!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hospital Stay?
StevieSmithtown replied to cantw8t2bme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in two nights. First night I was walking the hallways of beautiful 14N of NY Presbyterian. Next day I was a wreck!!! I think it was the gas they pumped into me. Btw down 90lbs since thanksgiving 2011, 70lbs since surgery -
I'm just past 8 weeks post op and was doing great. I lost 50 + lbs since surgery and doing everything required. The last few days I started feeling off. Every time I eat it comes up within minutes. Gross alert ***** what comes out starts as mucousy mess then comes the food then comes the bitter bile. I have a dull ache on my right front side but I thought it was muscle ache from throwing up. Anyone have any similar plight?

mine was also on 4/23. isn't it amazing how we think now? before surgery, if someone would have asked us whether we'd be happy losing 40 lbs in 7 weeks, we would be jumping up and down happy. now that 80% of our stomachs have been ripped from us, we want it all off NOW!!! i'm with you though. the scale hasn't moved in 5 days and i'm pissed!!

What Are You Eating At 8 Weeks
StevieSmithtown replied to marimar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i like hard boiled eggs and / or greek yogurt for breakfast. yesterday for the first time since 4/23, i ate an entire tuna on whole wheat sandwich. lots and lots of homemade lentil soup. the last batch i made i cooked with pork bracciole which made it fantastic!! the shredded pork just melts into the lentils. i've had small amounts of pasta which i love but keep to a minimum. on the days where we go out for dinner i always order fish now. as i type this i'm getting a little hungry and wondering what to have for lunch. ?? for snacks i've been having two wedges of laughing cow lite cheese with a few whole wheat ritz crackers. i'm still waiting to have apples and peaches. i think i can tolerate the fruit but my nutritionist says to hold off on fruits and salad. i can't wait to have a nice salad with some blue cheese dressing. maybe today is the day i try some for lunch ?? -
Does Anyone Have Any Regrets?
StevieSmithtown replied to Dizzle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ditto ditto ditto to regretting not doing it a few years earlier. I and 7 weeks post op and I am back to a completly normal life except that it costs less to feed me . My wife is counting her savings. I have spaghetti and meatballs (I mean meatball) tonight and I literally was completly satisfied after what would've been one spoonful of almost a pound of pasta. I even had a beautiful glass of delicious monte puliciano. I love life now!!!!! -
Is Keeping The Secret Possible?
StevieSmithtown replied to Nikki613's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've kept it a secret from everyone. I told people I was having hernia surgery and that I just kept losing weight after the surgery. -
Starting weight on thanksgiving day 2011 - 350 Weight on last surgeon appointment - 330 Weight on surgery date 4/23/12 - 327 Weight this morning 268 Holy cow I can't believe it. Hardly any exercise even though I joined a gym I'd like to see 200. But I think the sedentary life is over for me. I used to have a hard time breathing walking up stairs. Now I breathe fine but my legs feel like bricks!!!!!! Will the bricks go away if I exercise?

Starting weight 350 on Thanksgiving Day 2011

When can we swallow pills and not have to crush them? My blood pressure pill is huge and creates way too much disgusting powder to deal with much longer. It's to date the most difficult part of this process.

I was 330 the last time I saw surgeon before my surgery. Today (4 weeks to the day) I was 289. I was very happy. Dopey me was so freaking happy with the amount I lost I forgot to ask the doctor what I could start eating. How stupid am I!!! What do we get to eat after a month of mushies?? I'd like a nice steak and some roasted potatoes and some beer. Oh and dessert too!

I'm Desperately Hungry!
StevieSmithtown replied to marimar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The procedure was, by far, the greatest thing I ever did for myself! I have dropped just over 30 lbs in a few days shy of three weeks and I'm eating fish, lentils, black beans,Greek yogurt, cottage cheese and protein shakes. Every doctor is different but the end result is the same: we save our lives. -
Two weeks to the day since my surgery and I just inhaled 6 oz of yogurt without batting an eye and if I had another cup I'd probably eat that too. How is that possible? I was told by my nutritionist that I wouldn't be able to eat that much in one sitting. I really hope I don't have an issue. I know who my first call is when I get to work this morning!!!
