Once Brave Now Petrified
Grandma3 replied to dragonfly37's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My fears didn't start until the week before surgery. I kept doubting my decision and two days before surgery I was canceling it. My friend talked me thru it, she reminded me of the reasons I wanted to have the surgery and told me how happy I would be a year from now. She told me she was there for me day and night. Not to mention my husband is behind me 100%. I had not found Lap Band Talk yet and had it not been for her I would not have had the surgery. I had the surgery and did fine, I am one month post op and so far so good. It worries me that I can not eat the things I love like ice cream and cake or drink my case of soda a week. That seems like a small price to pay, I once heard a saying that goes, nothing tastes as good as skinny feels. I agree with you, I am not looking to be skinny but under 200 would really make me happy. Find someone to make this journey with you and will be there for you, you will need the support. Is your friend there for you? She would be great support since she has had surgery. I hope you find some peace with your decision. -
Loosing Weight But Getting Some Skin
Grandma3 replied to Mzjamison79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For a temporary help, my doctors office told me if that happens to try baby powder or stick deodorant. Also be sure it is documented at your doctors office. -
I had my surgery with hiatal hernia repair on Wednesday and went back to work on Monday with no problems.
-
I made my husband switch sides with me because I could not lay on my left side. So I would sleep on my right side half the night and go to the recliner the rest of the night. It only last 4-5 nights and then I was able to sleep on my left side.

I told only a few who I knew would keep this secret. NO ONE else needs to know. No one can make this choice for you, just remember if you tell someone and they tell someone, soon everyone will know.
-
I have thought that but it does no good to worry about what if's. Just remember why you did it and follow your doctors orders. As the months go by and the pounds come off you will be happy you did.

Grandma3 replied to sp1587's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Things I had that I do not see on your list is: Fish oatmeal or Cream of Wheat Refried Beans Cottage cheese Remember that menu is just a sample to give you an idea of what and how much to eat. -
I had surgery on Wednesday and went back to work on Monday. I don't think I would have wanted less but I did not need more.

Low Blood Sugar And Stalled Weight Loss
Grandma3 replied to says_simon's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am also on Victoza and metformin, my doctor cut them both in half after a 25 lb weight loss. May sugars are in the 95 to 120 range now. You should check with your doctor you may no longer need the Levemir and the Victoza together. -
I totally agree with you. The people on this site are awesome!

Hi Bjc, I am 58 and today is my one month bandaversary. I too wish I had done this much sooner. I have found my self raising my 6 year old grandson and knew I had to do something to keep up with him and still be around until he gets out of high school. I started my process last August and had my surgery April 25th. Good luck to you and all of us seniors.

I was also wondering about the plane ride, and the effect if any on the band. I still have a couple months before my trip.

Surgery Date Is June 6!! Should I Tell Family??
Grandma3 replied to Lapband Maggie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I told only people I wanted to share with AND that I knew could keep their mouths shut. It is my decision to share what I want to share and with whom I want to share it with. I have two kids and I told only one, I have two sisters and I told only one. Remember you will need some support so you need to have a special someone to share this with you. As a previous post said, you can not take it back so make sure to make the correct decision for you before you tell. Good luck! -
Mine is 6 weeks, tomorrow is my one month bandaversary and my first fill is June 5th.

My PCP handed me the surgeons card and said you should check this out. At first I didn't but I saved the card, it was about a year before I went to a seminar. I now have the band thanks to my PCP.

Help! I Need A Dish For Family Reunion This Weekend.
Grandma3 replied to armymom2012's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had to take a dish to a party last week, I wanted to be sure there was something there I could eat. I took baked beans and deviled eggs. -
I also had to pay 20% to the hospital, different hospital and different state. My portion was just over $3000 to the hospital. BUT I got a 25% discount if I paid before the surgery.

I have a sit down job at a computer. I had surgery on Wednesday and went back on Monday.

After Surgery, Do Any Of You Struggle With Still Eating Too Fast ???
Grandma3 replied to marketingdude's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Forgetting was my first and only stuck episode. I was making deviled eggs and when I was done I just popped the extra one in my mouth and took about two bites. I was in hell for the next 20 minutes, Do it once and you won't forget. -
I cut mine with a pill cutter. The smaller ones I cut in half and the larger ones I cut in half and cut again. Then as I get ready in the morning I take two pieces at a time with Water every 1-2 minutes. I have one capsule I open and put on a spoon applesauce. I tried crushing and mixing it in applesauce and it is disgusting.

So many times I have come across post where people say they do not get much help from their doctors office or they have to pay to see the nutritionalist. I came across this site by accident this afternoon and it is very informative. Hope it helps anyone who needs a little guidance. http://www.peachtreebariatrics.com/docs/Gastric-Band-Patient-Manual.pdf
