    Australian Bandsters Chat Thread

Hi Everyone, Sorry I didnt give more info in my previous post! With my surgeon it wasnt required to see a dietician, however I had been seeing one three months prior to surgery to see if we could work out a weightloss program for me. I havent seen her since getting the band, but I think I will make another appt very soon! I actually saw my surgeon today, for my first post op appt, and spoke to him about the food information. Apparently I should have been given a booklet and recipe sheets before leaving the hospital to help me on my way, so he wasnt a happy camper! Weightloss to date is 7kg, and I was in shock when I also received my first fill from him as well!! I had 5mls put in, (that stayed in) but he did say that my band was tight as it started pushing saline back up into the syringe! Has this happened to anyone else? Healing wise he said Im a champion and that he has never seen scars look so good. I was advised to stick to liquids for the next 2 days, whilst allowing my tummy time to adjust to the fill, and then I can do mushies for 2 - 5 days if needed, and then back to solids. Again advised to stay away from bread and red meat for now (first week) and then see how I go. So thats me in a nutshell for today Lisa - thanks so much for your offer *hugs*

Hi All, Im in the same boat as Lisa - just a little over three weeks banded but find that I am starving. Unfortunately I wasnt given any post op food rules as such, so ended up ringing the hospital where I had my proceedure done (as I couldnt get hold of my surgeon) and they recommended two weeks liquid, and from their I could progress to mushier type foods. I have been a bit hesitant in allowing myself to just have mushies, as I am not sure what my surgeon wants me to do (thank goodness my first post op appointment is tomorrow!) so have mainly been sticking to liquids and one meal a day of mushies which I have been watering down with either broth or milk. However my hunger pangs are really starting to kick in, and its driving me batty! Hang in there Lisa - we can do it!

    Question

Prune juice works really well for me. Word of warning though, if you do try it - go for a small amount first ie: 50ml (2oz?), and then increase from there if needed.

Hi Susannah, Thanks for starting this thread up! Im from Perth, and must admit to feeling a little bit shy in posting on the Melbourne thread, as you all seem to be really great friends over there I too am one of those people that find myself really tight in the morning (and this is with no fill as yet!) and before I do anything I drink a hot cup of Water with a squeeze of lemon. I find it really helps

    Aussie Roll Call

Hi everyone Was great to stumble across this forum and find out that Aussies visit too! I was banded on the 3rd of April (so 13 days today) at Bethesta Hospital (by Mr Kierath) in Perth. Im 6.5kg's down as I type, but have started to notice that my weight is starting to fluctuate (Im a scale junkie unfortunately!) and the last few days have seen me go from 99.9kg - 98.5kg then right back up again. Is this normal whilst you are still on liquids? I have my first appt with my surgeon since the "borg" was put in on the 24th of April - and boy I am filled with questions! My port is definitely noticable (which Im not happy about) and even my DH can see it sticking up through my tummy, just under my ribs. I am having nightmares that it has flipped or turned on an angle, and can see myself having some type of revision surgery. Has anybody had their port turn/flip - and if so whats the general action taken? Revision surgery? Sometimes I feel as though mine is floating around - or maybe Im just freaking myself out here! Lucylee - I had that tightness in the chest area that you talked about, and ended up ringing the hospital (because I was concerned) and they told me it was all perfectly normal. They reminded me that even though I had keyhole surgery, (and yes, it is less invasive) its still major surgery and that my internal organs were basically not settled and that the discomfort was caused by swelling of the organs and the gas that they use to pump you up to see what they are doing. Mine has only recently let up the last few days, so give yourself a good couple of weeks to let everything settle. However, if it doesnt feel right to you, the best advice I can give would be to ring your surgeon! Anyhow, enough of my blather.. I appreciate finding Aussies on the board, and look forward in getting to know you all better

    Pay for the band! Poll!

My total out of pocket expenses were $1600 - my health insurance covered the majority, and medicare gave good rebates. (I know things are different here down under) My fills and consult work out to be $45.00 per pop.
  11. Hi Krystal, You've motivated me to come out of lurkdom! I just wanted to say that you are inspiring and that you have another aussie follower watching you win your way back to a healthy lifestyle. Keep up the great work, and just keep on trying. I believe that you WILL get there! xxx Rava
