Grew up active and healthy but after three kids and a high paced, high stress, physically inactive career somewhere around 35 I started putting on weight. I struggled with different ways to take the weight off. Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, TOPS, Atkins, SouthBeach, vegetarian.......not really any crazy diets but even with good choices I typically could get 30-32 lbs off and then 6 months later it would start creeping up until I regained it all plus some. I was concerned because my mother has many health issues and struggles with similar weight issues that I have. I wanted to avoid the high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol that I knew was just around the corner.
The last time I was at 220, I went to a low carb, Atkins type eating plan and vowed if I ever got back to 220 I would look into bariatric surgery since I had known people who had gone that route and they seemed successful. Long story, short I found myself back over 220 last winter and started the process to look into bariatric surgery. I first thought lapband but later decided vertical sleeve was a better choice.
My surgery was May 21, 2012 and it was one of the best decisions I have made in a long time. No regrets!
