    Where are the 50s ???

1600 to maintain......I don't think that would work for me either. My metabolism is so slow, that is one reason I thought this route would be best for me as I need to eat small amounts to lose. I am 3 days out and have no appetite or hunger but know I need to get fluids into me so I don't dehydrate so I am trying to sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk.

    May Sleeve!

Good luck to all you going soon. Mine was Monday and I'd have to say each day was an improvement. Today I came home and so look forward to a good night's sleep. At the hospital I was at they did not have private rooms and the elderly lady on the other side had many issues in the night which required the nurses to come in and so I was awakened so many times for that and for them to take my vitals as well, I was exhausted the next day. Plus my IV would run out or hers would and they would have to be fixing that. Twice I heard them come in and say Bobbie, you're naked. I was hot she said. Haha, gotta love being 80 or 90 and figuring modesty could take second place to comfort.

    Clear Liquids Post Op

My tummy is having a hard time with room temperature water so I was afraid to try the popsicles but I think I will anyway. When people were discussing having a hard time getting their liquid in I didn't realize that it might mean feeling nauseous and so far water does not work. I'm assuming it gets easier each day and trying different things helps. I intend to try something warm too like broth or decaf tea to see. Not sure if I dare add unflavored protein to anything yet. One day at a time.

    Feeling Miserable

I was sleeved Monday and came home today. A little nervous about not getting dehydrated as water gives me dry heaves and I used to be a big water drinker. I am only taking two tiny sips at a time....like 1/3 of the teaspoon but water makes me nauseous. I am going to try some flavored water and maybe some decaf tea. I tried the water at room temp thinking that best but maybe some people tolerate hot or cold better. Nausea has been hard on me because I didn't even get morning sick with my three pregnancies and only thew up once in the last 40 years so not something I"m used to dealing with. It is no fun. I guess I just need to experiment. Thanks for any advice. I am home and off the IV now so I need to get some liquids in.

    Im A May Sleever!

Yes, this site has helped me a lot and I feel as prepared as I could be. Tomorrow is the big day at 11am. Trying to decide whether to take my laptop. I don't have a smartphone and staying in touch with family and friends seems like a natural thing to do in between walking and napping. Hopefully I will be reporting back soon and not feel out of sorts too long after surgery.

Just came upon your post and just reading your description of your food for the day makes my mouth Water after almost two weeks of Protein shakes and sugar free popsicles!! LOL

    Iron

They (Centrum) are orange flavored. I don't have a hard time with taste so they taste fine to me, a little tart maybe. They don't taste like candy ..... I would expect the gummies do so more of a treat. I would call them large, the weight isn't on the package but I just weighed one and the scale said 2 grams. I take 1 a day which gives 100% of Vit C, D, E, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vit B6, Folic Acid, Vit B12, Pantothenic Acid, Iron, Iodine, Zinc, Copper. It gives 70% Vit A, and smaller %'s of a few others. Calcium is only 108mg and I don't believe it is calcium citrate so I take CC later in two doses of 500 each. The bottle is a two month supply. I am pre-surgery so after surgery maybe we have to take more than a standard Multivitamin, like two a day. I would assume there are tests to evaluate you for all of that periodically. At least I hope so.

    Length Of Entire Process

Mine was a bit longer because my first appt I saw the band surgeon. When I switched to the sleeve, I had to see the other surgeon and than repeat a nutritionist visit because it is different based on which surgery. That put me behind....my surgeon is also far out on dates. I had everything redone and through and insurance approval and I still had to wait 2 months for a free surgery date for the surgeon. So I started 11/30 with band Dr., did most other apts Dec-Mar. Had to see nutritionist 3 times plus 1 that was extra, psych examiner, trainer once and go to 3 support groups. I'm not sure how much time I added with the switch probably at least a month, plus if your surgeon isn't booking so far out, your experience may be much quicker. My surgery is Monday. I had hoped for April originally a quieter time at my work but it didn't work out.

    Im A May Sleever!

Wow, so many differences in the after surgery experiences. I hope I am lucky enough not to be too nauseous. Whatever it is, "this too shall pass"...it's only a few days. Surgery on Monday. I find out tomorrow what time. Hope they don't forget to call me
  10. I am not sure what you mean by the above.....? I have the Centrum chewables and 1 of those gives you 100% of almost everything. Do you mean superior because it gives you more calcium and B12? Centrum doesn't have much for calcium but then again you aren't supposed to take calcium and Iron together anyway so I expect to take a calcium supplement separately. Thank goodness calcium citrate doesn't have to be taken with food at least when I forget I can just take them.

    Weird Taste In Mouth?

I haven't had surgery yet and I have it. I am sure my body is in ketosis with only doing the protein shakes and liquid. I used to use gum to help with fresh breath during the day but now we can't chew gum. I assume sugar free breath mints are OK before and after surgery?

Drink And Eat At The Same Time

I've been practicing (pre-op) at not have a drink with meals and I've gotten used to it. The last time I went to a restaurant I did sip the water a little because it was there so I think the trick is to say nothing to drink even if they raise their eyebrows. I am somewhat concerned though if at a later stage I am able to eat spicy foods like buffalo chicken or salsa, how it will feel not to be able to drink to quench my tongue

    Full Liquid Diet Question

On my full liquid diet that starts 2 days after surgery I am only allowed protein shakes and clear liquids like broth, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, decaf tea, flavored water.....pretty much what I've been "eating" for almost two weeks. I believe the goal is still 64 oz after surgery although I hear it is hard at first to get that all in. I would not be able to have yogurt and cream of wheat until later, the next step.

    Iron

My nutritionist told me to take a vitamin with iron even though I am over 50 and usually vitamins geared for my age do not have iron. She said that they were finding that people needed the iron after the sleeve. I am using Centrum chewables, just not the Centrum Silver chewables that I had originally planned to get. Centrum Silver has no iron.
  16. If it isn't the same job you had when you took leave than it does has to be an equivalent position with equivalent pay and benefits. Looks like there are other people on here that deal with H/R Either way OP, let them know as soon as possible, they will appreciate that much more than a last minute notice.
  17. If you are eligible for FMLA than they cannot fire you for taking FMLA time off, that's the whole point of FMLA. If you don't meet all of the federal FMLA guidelines, some states also have their own FMLA with different guidelines and benefits (# of days allowed to take, etc). This protects you and your job.
  18. There are a couple, this one is one about what to buy for after surgery. There is also a link in this one back to a list of what to get for the hospital. Hope this is what you wanted. http://www.verticals...__fromsearch__1

    Pre Op Ketosis Diet

3 protein shakes a day and clear liquids for two weeks. Week 1 is down, so I'm sure I must be in ketosis with that diet. Lost 7 lbs in the first week.

    Laxative Question

hmmm, not this requirement yet from my surgeon unless they give me that news tomorrow at my 1 week pre-op appointment. If so, I'll be sure to ask what kind. Maybe it makes a difference what type of pre-op diet you have? I had to do 2 weeks of protein drinks and clear liquids so no food for the last week and another 6 days to go, with clear liquids only day 7.
  22. I ordered the B-50 Complex vitamins from Bariatric Advantage assuming the would be fine for after surgery. However, they are capsules not chewables. Has anyone taken these and after surgery when I start taking vitamins again, do I sprinkle them in applesauce or yogurt to take them or can they be swallowed?

    I Hate Eating

I am pre-surgery but from ideas I got reading posts on this board I have also picked up some cute small plates at Goodwill and at TJ Maxx for not too much I bought a serving set that was a cake server with 4 little tiny forks that were all bejeweled on the handles. I think I paid like $5 or $6 and the cake server I can use and the tiny forks will be my silverware. I have some baby spoons too. I know the amounts we will eat are small but I know that I will have to eat slow anyway and chew, chew, chew so hopefully I will be eating slow enough so I don't finish in 2 minutes while others are taking 15. Than again, if you've ever gone out with a group of people, there are always those that finish way first and others that are still eating when most are done. It's something I guess I'll have to get used to and hopefully not feel too deprived in the process. After a week today of liquids, it just sounds good to be able to eat at all

    One Year Surgiversary

Wow, that is an amazing transformation. I would think that the tendency would be to move on with your new life but for you to take the time to come back and share with the rest of us, is an inspiration. I hope I can do the same one day. Thank you.
