  1. See how different each doc is. Mine says no to little sips, he says to take a mouthful of liquid and swallow it. He says you get less air that way. And don't be jealous, I'm on full liquids. Yesterday was the first day being able to have milk in my tea! A big deal to me for sure!
  2. I'm walking plenty, actually have to be careful not to overdo. We have a farm so I keep finding little things to do, like collect eggs. You'd think it would be no big deal, but the nurses almost had a fit when they called to check up on me and I mentioned it. Sigh.... I feel like this is a weird transition period- no longer the build up and excitement of pre surg and not quite post surg (to me that is when you are all healed and good to go), just sore, swollen, sometimes hungry (smelling all the good food cooking) and then again worried about everything I put in my mouth. Like I said, weird time.

    It's Been A Week Already!?

4 days out, sore, bloated, and not happy smelling all the wonderful food my husband cooked for himself.
  4. Hi All, I am on day 4 and having gas issues. I have a huge (costco) box of gas-x soft gels. They look small enough to me but I am terrified of something getting stuck. Has anyone ever used them with, or without, success? Thanks

    Gas-X Soft Gels

I like the tic tac and m&m idea- gives me a better idea than a pencil eraser.

    Water Sipping....

My doctor told me not to sip but to take a mouthfull of water (or whatever you're drinking) and swallow it that way. He says sipping makes you swallow too much air.

    Day 2 Post Op..

I'm on day 3 and am definately more sore and swollen than before. I think I simply did too much yesterday afternoon (too much bending) so I took it really easy today. I'm hoping to wake up in the morning feeling much better. I started thick liquids today, so far so good. It also gave me something to put my crushed meds into. Pills that looked small enough pre surg now scare the heck out of me! This really is a journey, so glad we have each other here!

    Banded Yesterday

I was banded the 13th also. I actually felt pretty good on day 2, but now that I'm home (day 2 at noon) the gas is getting worse. I'm sure it's because I'm moving around alot more. Right now my stomach is taut as a drum. Plus, while I know it is all iv fliuds and not real weight gain but I went up 6 pounds from the morning of surgery till this morning. I'm sure once that starts to leave I'll feel better. I just went over all my food options for today and am thrilled that I can have my tea with skimmed milk in it! It is steeping as I type!

    August Roll Call

August 13th! I'm finishing up day 3 of the pre-op diet. So far so good, and I'm on vacation. I thought it would be awful, but it hasn't been bad. I hope this continues! Now I worry that the back end of thediet will be the tough time for me.

Day One Of The Pre-Op Diet

Day one of the beginning. All the hoops have been jumped through and this is now for real. I don't know why I didn't start blogging earlier but better late than never. So far the diet isn't bad although it is 8 AM. I will be spending a lot of time here I think. I'll be back!

    Rn Scared Me Today!

There are risks, anyone who thinks there are no risks is not informed. BUT they are way less than the risk of being fat, to be blunt! I am doing this because I want to live, healthy, for another 30 years, not die in 20. I think 10 years, and being happy, are well worth the risk. I had a friend receive last rites after an infection caused by a routine dental visit (he lived). I don't think the nurse was trying to scare you, it sounds to me like she was informing you about what to expect. Now you know, forewarned is forearmed.
  12. Hi All, My surgery date it August 13th, I start my pre-surg diet tomorrow. And I have had one miserable week. I just found out that I am being moved from the high school, where I've worked for 10 years, to the middle school. That means that two weeks after surgery instead of returning to friends and support I'm going to basically strangers, a new building, and a new schedule. I wouldn't want to go under any condition but now it just seems like torture. To add to that, pay role made a mistake and shorted all summer employees a weeks pay! They don't think it is any big deal! This has occupied me so much that while I got all the big stuff done for my diet (protein shakes!) I don't have the small stuff like skim milk (I have 1%). I am telling myself it is okay to use that in my tea tomorrow, that I can get the rest after work tomorrow. We also leave on vacation tomorrow after work- I am looking forward to being in a different environment for this but my husband still doesn't get why I won't go to a dinner party with him Saturday, then out to an all you can eat gourmet seafood dinner Sunday. I am feeling it from all sides! Anesthesia is sounding wonderful right about now! I’m not looking for any solutions- it just is what it is and I have to deal with it, I just needed to gripe! (Plus, I hate the middle school!)~ this is me stamping my foot in a mini temper tantrum.
  13. Guess I'm lucky, my date is the 13th and my diet starts tomorrow. If it helps I've had a headache all week for no real reason.

    Colonoscopy Prep?

Hi All, I'm getting banded on 8/13 (yeahhhhhh!) and have a quick question. How the heck do you do the prep for a colonoscopy once banded. I mean, you have to drink so much in such a small amount of time. I remember having to guzzle glass after glass of liquid. Has anyone here dealt with that one yet. I mean, we all have to go through it, just how? Ann

    Fun Question

parachute, running, roller coaster, sailing (racing), zip line......
  16. Boy, I would go slow. You're talking the day after surgery? Forget what was done to you, just being under general anasthesia takes a toll on your body. I think I would hold off on pre purchasing, and pay the extra on the day. It would be awful to feel you had to go because you had already bought the tickets, rather than go because you feel up to it and really want to.
  17. Isn't this the group for August Bandsters? Or is there something else?
  18. Hey Puppyhat, We're 'twins'! I'm the 13th also. Had my pre-op appointment last Thursday, made my pre-op appointment with my primary, and now the countdown begins. My doc has me starting my diet on the 3rd. I've decided to joint my husband on his beach vacation for the week before surgery, I figure I can go for long beach walks while they eat dinner!

    Pre Op Hell

I haven't started my pre op diet so my words are only ones of encouragement. Can you try a different type of shake? A different flavor? Maybe freezing it and making it a smoothie? You CAN do this- the goal is in sight! I am thinking of you, and sending power your way! I will be asking you for your advise in a month.
  20. I'm scheduled for the 13th. I finish teaching at a special needs camp on the 3rd, which will probably be my first day of liquid diet, and school starts again two weeks after surgery. It sounds like a long way off but then again it feels like it is right around the corner! Next summer is going to be so great!
  21. Hi All, My doctor's office has really worked with my schedule to allow me to have my surgery during the three weeks (August 13th!) after I teach summer school and before the regular year school begins. This is the time that my husband and I usually go on vacation and visit our families at the beach. My surgery is scheduled smack in the middle- perfect in everyway except, vacation. My husband is really pushing me to go with him. I'm happy sending him and me staying behind going through the pre-surgery diet at home on my own. Can any of you comment on doing the pre-surgical diet away from home, or recuperating away from home? I can tell he is not happy that I may not go with him, but I think this has to be one of those 'it's about me' times. Input please!

    Emotional Baggage Anyone?

You may not see a difference, but there is one, a HUGE one. You are looking great. Your aunt must have some major issues that cause her to make herself feel better by trying to stomp ontop of other people. Avoid her, if you can. Think of the old saying 'with friends like that, who needs enemies?'
  23. I have my pre-op diet in hand, just not scheduled yet so I'm anticipating you 'pain' only. Besides the high protein/low carb shakes, liquids (water, broth, sugar-free pops and gelatin) I can have, twice a day, certain yogurts, cottage cheese (1/2 cup nonfat) 1 hard boiled egg 2 oz. deli turker/chicken. Also, once a day steamed or raw veggies. Maybe your doc will go along with this. Good luck. Sorry you were beat up at the beginning of this post, I knew what you were trying to say. Just think, besides being banded at the end of all this you'll be able to say you survived the pre-op!
  24. I'm waiting for approval and scheduling so it is getting near for me as well. I'm with you, whenever I get nervous or questioning, I think about how I want to live the rest of my life, long and active!
  25. I'm hoping to join this group! My paperwork should have been submitted to insurance yesterday. I'm hoping for mid-June, that would be perfect!
