    Hope you feel better fast!!!

    Dinner Was So Good!

Looks wonderful. Think that will be dinner tomorrow night! Thanks

    Puzzled!

I feel that my weight loss has come from dieting so far, not from the lapband. Like you, taking weight off is something I've done in the past- I'm banking on the band to help me keep it off! I'm still so new to this that it is totally unknown as to how things will progress from here.

    Only 40-50 To Lose

Not to be a big downer, but I have to add this. When I told my bro in law (a doctor) that I was having wls he was very unsupportive. He really pressed me on the complications. About a month after my surgery he told me why. He knew 2 nurses who had the surgery that died. One from infection a week post surgery, and the other died on the table. I tell you this only to reenforce that it is still abdominal surgery, with all the risks that go with it. Would it have changed my mind had I known that, probably not- I did it because I had 100 lbs to lose, and my body did not like my weight (hbp, cholesterol). If I had 50 to lose I might have looked a little more carefully about other solutions. I say this not to discourage you, but so you are informed. Good luck in whatever you decide to do!

try syntrax matrix 5, I like the mint cookie, but they have other flavors. It is wonderful, for me anyway. I ordered mine from amazon, very easy.

    My Husband Doesnt Understand

Sorry you are going through this. From what you wrote you only got your band less than 2 weeks ago. Your job is to be healing, not losing weight right now! Tell that guy of yours that until he becomes a part of the solution, ie- going to support groups, reading the literature, he has not earned the right to comment! Period! My husband refused to go to any of my support sessions pre-op, or read any of the info I received from the doctor. He said he got his info from friends. Hummmm, not good info. Now when he makes comments that are hurtful, harmful, or inaccurate he basically gets blasted by me. He has simply not earned the right to comment. Each time I remind him that his info is not accurate. It took about a month to get him to stop making absurd comments. Keep healing, the weight loss will come!
  7. Hi All, I was banded 8/13 and had my first fill yesterday. I am on liquids (with stuff like jello and cottage cheese) for 24 hours, mushies for 48 after that. I am experiencing a pain in my chest after eating even jello. I am assuming I am eating too fast, even though I think I'm going slowly. I think the fact that I felt no difference after banding maybe led me to not slowing down as much as I should have. Liquids go down fine. Do you more experienced people think it is just a case of eating too fast?

    No Fill Yet

I was banded 8/13/12, have lost 32 lbs without a fill, and yet got my first fill yesterday. My issue, historically, hasn't been taking it off, it has been keeping it off. I'm hoping with everything working together I'll change my eating habits so that if I ever need my band removed or emptied that I will be in a place where it won't make any difference. Right now I am so obsessed with losing the weight that I am not eating a diet that would satisfy me for the rest of my life. I want to eat 'regular', but band ok, food. Now I'm living on yogurt, cottage cheese, and eggs simply because I feel confident that I can control what I eat, how much I eat, and still lose weight. I want to be able to be satisfied with regular food, but in smaller more appropriate serving sizes. I am definately a work in progress.

    75 N Feels Not Enough

Set small goals. My current goal is to get to 199. As soon as I reach that it will switch to a BMI that is no longer obese. I 'only' had 100 lbs to lose, but if that were my goal it would seem insurmountable. I am now within 8 pounds of goal #1, then only 26 lbs to the next goal, after that I'll start to focus on my final goal. You are doing absolutely fantastic! Keep up the great work!

    Realize Band Or Lapband

I got whatever my doctor put in. He's the expert, not me. He has a great track record, that's why I chose him. After that, I put myself in his hands.

    Suggestions For Birthday

How about ice cream cake? While I grant you it is not diet food I firmly believe that EVERYONE deserves birthday cake. I know my grocery store sell Carvel, and Carvel has 'individual' serving cakes- probably really 4 servings, and it won't get stuck.
  12. I need a little vent time. I haven't told many people I was banded (8/13/12), but I did tell my closest friend. I explained to her that I wasn't telling people and to please keep it to herself. Well, last night, at a very crowded event (a large fair) her husband offered to buy me some dinner/fair food (very bad- all fried) I refused but thanked him. He turned to the people we were with and said "She wasn't satisfied losing weight the natural way, she had to go have surgery" I was shocked that he would make that comment for so many reasons. I'll talk to him today when I get a chance, but it was such an eye opener about how people view what we have done. I was also glad that I was basically with strangers that I only see once a year.

    Out-Ed By Friends Husband :(

Oh, I know him well enough to call him friend. He is in for a talking to today- I actually knew my friend would tell him, that wasn't the surprize, it was his attitude that shocked me. But all is well, I had to run to Kohls this morning for a couple of new polos- we show livestock and nice clean, spiffy shirts are expected. So anyway, my jeans were hanging off, I've lost 30 so far, so I grabbed a size 20, too big; size 18- too big, size 16! They were on sale so it didn't bother me buying temporary clothes- and it felt great! All the better to confront him in (I mean that in a nice way).

    Weight--Running

I have to laugh! I logged in this evening to ask the exact same question! It is 5 miles around our 'block', something I used to run everyday without fail. I love the circuit, but not the amount of time needed to walk it. I'm trying to figure out when I can start a low-key walk/jog program to shave some time off the 100 minute walk. Daylight is going to be at a premium before we know it! I am one month out of surgery, walking long distances is no issue, started light weight training today, but can't wait to really sweat it out running again!

    Struggling

I would talk to a nutritionalist and your doctor. My group (medical) always says that they want long term contact so they can help people over the rough spots. They absolutely say get in right away if you're having trouble maintaining, don't wait! They are there to help you! Also, how is your exercise routine? It is a scary place to be in. Pre band I had lost 115 pounds (I was wayyyy too thin), and after 4 years started gaining it all back. I wish I had had someone to help me stop, so I say run to your doctor, your nutritionalist, gym, whomever can help. 15 pound will be gone before you know it! Good luck, I'm thinking of you!

    Goig To The Emergency Room.

I'm 3 weeks post banding and had a terrible pain in my left side with a deep breath, cough, sneeze, hick-up, you get the idea. When I saw the aprn for my post op she said to call in a week if I still had the pain. Well, I called last Friday, and boy did things happen fast! stat CAT scan, blood work, and the long and the short of it is that they don't know what is causing it but the DO know what isn't- and that is almost as good. they think it is just some weird post op pain, but no clot, slippage, inflamation, etc. Medicine is not all knowing, but I like knowing that the 'bad' things have all been ruled out. It sounds like you're in the same boat.
  18. Hi All, I am continually shocked that people are being sent home the same day of surgery (unless I am misunderstanding them) . My surgery was on a Monday morning and I wasn't released till Tuesday afternoon, I got the feeling I could have stayed longer (hours) if I felt the need. I know that sometime during the night I was taken for an x-ray to confirm the band placement and as a standard in case of future issues. I was receiving heprin (sp) shots every 6 hours, they monitored my urine out-put, the list goes on and on of all the nursing type things that occured in that 36 hour period. How could that level of care be given at home? I thought my care was standard, I was low risk, this was standard care for my surgical group. If I were looking for a doc, I would certainly be asking about the length of the standard hospital stay, it makes a world of difference in comfort level, at the least. Just my two cents.
  19. Other than getting the munchies in the evening I have yet to really get hungry. I will be 3 weeks out of surgery on Monday. This creates an unusual delemma for me. I know I am not getting in enough calories, I'm averaging about 500 (+ or - 25 a day). Not quite getting my protein either. The nurse says don't worry about how much I eat, just focus on learning to eat again. I have a hard time forcing myself to eat when my goal is to lose weight. How did all of you deal with this time period?
  20. I love hearing other people's stories, it is my favorite part of support group. I think in our group the leader gives the speaker a basic outline to follow if they want/need it. I think they never talk long enough. Your doctor must feel you have something good to share, and that you are a good communicator. Be proud!

  22. Like I said I am 10 days out and have developed the most awful gas pains up under my ribs on the left side. I can't take a deep breath it hurts so bad. Gas-x isn't helping because I think it is operative gas, hot pads aren't working. I'm hoping lying down will be okay because I just want to go to bed and wake up feeling better. I feel fine otherwise, have been walking the last 3 days so maybe it all moved around to one place. Gosh, I can't wait for it to stop! Sorry to be a downer, but moaning to someone helps, in my head at least.
  23. edit: that I am NOW the proud (not) owner of Is there any way to correct a message you've posted?
  24. Ok, so it wasn't gas pains. Turns out that extra prescription they gave me as I left the hospital wasn't prn like I thought! Rut Row! They were to prevent the gastroenteritis (sore, inflamed stomach) that I am not the proud (not) owner of. The aprn says it should be cleared up in a week. I guess I could have made this easier on myself had I know. Live and learn.
  25. I hope this isn't considered advertising but I just want to thank my local planet fitness. They are running a $99 a year special for the next week. I am only 12 days post banding and can't use the gym yet. They said to sign up, bring in a note from the doctor when I can start and they will add the number of weeks on to the back end of my 'year'. I just thought that was awfully nice, and am so excited that the gym is ready and waiting for when I'm cleared! One more notch in the 'let's lose weight belt'!
