Give it a little time Randi, right now it's swollen and sore--chances are a month from now you won't even notice it. Watever your previous fill level was is irrelevant to your new band so I wouldn't worry about that. I think an erosion this early would be pretty uncommon, especially if your doc is fluoro'ing he would see it. At 3.4 cc's adding just very small amounts can make a big different, so I think you should start seeing restriction soon. Hang in there! Band to be removed Thursday - Soooo Scared!
Trace Curry replied to Lisa_in_Texas's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Lisa, I've taken out a few bands, all you have to do is expose a little bit of it, cut it, and pull it out. Last one I did took about 20 minutes. Good luck, Dr. C Cincinnati, Ohio www.TheBandDoctor.com 877.442.BAND DISCLAIMER: I am not your surgeon, any comments made by me are not meant to be taken as medical advice, just general guidelines. Lori, I've fixed lots of slips (some were my patients, some from other surgeons), in experienced hands it's pretty straightforward. I see too many surgeons just taking bands out when they slip. This is usually not necessary, you should NOT have to lose your band. 12 Yr old Girl has Liposuction to LOOSE WEIGHT !
Trace Curry replied to coltonwade's topic in Rants & Raves
Sadly I see stuff like this all the time, patients with a BMI of 40 or higher who have lipo and/or a tummy tuck, then their BMI is like 38 but they still have diabetes, hypertension, and sleep apnea. The fat itself is not inherently evil, so simply hacking it out does no good - it's about changing the lifestyle. I just cringe whenever I see a patient who spent 15 grand on plastic surgery and now can't afford a band... Does this Sound like a Dilation problem?
Trace Curry replied to juliesam's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would agree this early in the game you're probably just not restricted enough yet. Significant pouch dilation usually takes more than 6 months. Any luck appealing exclusions???
Trace Curry replied to Texas Teacher's topic in Insurance & Financing
Renee, We have not had much luck with people beating exclusions. If you want to have any chance at all I'd recommend hiring a lawyer, like Walter Lindstrom, who specializes in this stuff. I think his web site is www.obesitylaw.com Good luck, Dr. C Cincinnati, Ohio www.TheBandDoctor.com 877.442.BAND DISCLAIMER: I am not your surgeon, any comments made by me are not meant to be taken as medical advice, just general guidelines. What she is talking about is a port erosion, not a band erosion. You know you have a port erosion because you can see the port through a hole in the skin. London, Having your port replaced is a little more complicated than having one removed and replaced in the same operation. Your tubing is on the inside, so usually a laparoscope has to be inserted to find it and pull it out. It's not nearly as invasive as your original band surgery though. Dr. C, I'm one of your patients with a question?
Trace Curry replied to beachgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sherri, Kidney stones do indeed have a higher incidence in bypass patients, due to difference in Calcium metabolism, but not in band patients. Your kidney stones have nothing to do with your band, despite what they told you in the ER. Trust me on this one, I've seen it a lot...don't have it removed give it a little time. I've had several people tell me they want it out a few weeks after it was put in, but they have all come to love their band with time! ?'s for the Doctors in the House... Regarding Meds...
Trace Curry replied to Poodles's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Over the counter Dramamine might help. As far as who to ask...not sure on that one, if it's just a phenergan script I would think either your PCP or band doctor would do that for you. I really depends on what type of slip - if it's a concentric dilation (which means the stomach is evenly enlarged above the band it might work. If it's just slipped in one spot (an anterior slip) then it'll probably need to be fixed. Need Exploratory Surery and Have ???

Generally the signs of slippage are the same as the signs of being overfilled. The only telltale sign that I have noted is that if your band is totally emptied and you still can't keep anything down, you are slipped until proven otherwise... Slip fixes: are their any? DR. C
Trace Curry replied to lapbandjen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Jen, In my experience a slip of that magnitude will rarely fix itself but it's certainly worth a try. Never heard of the endoscope thing either but again worth a try. There is no reason you should have to lose your band though, for better or worse I have sort of become a referral center for slipped bands and have fixed a number of them without any trouble. Please help w making decision/flipped port

Sometimes you can tell by manual exam, usually I can only tell if I cannot get the needle into the silicon portion. Then we go to fluoro and flip it back. Self Pay Band ... Self Pay Removal?
Trace Curry replied to kari jo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Kari, First of all, don't feel one bit bad about dumping your problems on me, I'm a band surgeon it's my job! Secondly, I've taken out a few bands placed by other surgeons on self pay patients, insurance has paid for it, but that's certainly no guarentee.
