All surgeons should do this (stitch the stomach around the band to prevent slippage). Any vomiting puts you at risk for a slip, it's like playing Russian roulette, most of the time it's ok but occasionally the outcome is not so good. Dr. Trace Curry - Cincinnati, Ohio Got a question? Average weight loss is 1-2 lbs per week, AFTER you are properly restricted. It is indeed much slower than RNY but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing IMO. Robin, There is no absolute restriction against alcohol with the band, but it is a liquid calorie (liquid calories are one of the biggest reasons for band failure) so just keep it on the light side! Studies comparing weight loss between band and bypass vary quite a bit - some show equivalent weight loss at 5 years between the 2, some show better weight loss with the bypass. The bottom line is that averages don't mean anything to an individual patient - what you do with the operation will determine your success. We have band patients who have lost 200 pounds, and we have bypass patients that have lost 200 pounds. Do you research and you will make the right decision for you! Usually the cause of a slip is repeated vomiting. The symptoms of an acute slip are pain and vomiting even liquids usually. Symptoms can be variable though. As far as treatment goes, if it's a big slip it needs reoperation to fix, if it's a minor slip sometimes just unfilling can take care of it. If you want to see a picture of a slip there is one posted on my web site in the forums section. Dr. Trace Curry Cincinnati, Ohio Got a question? Ask the doctor at Trace W. Julie, This can be a problem for patients as it can be hard in certain areas of the country to find aftercare. The surgeon that banded her should have some US contacts to refer her to. 90772 is not the correct code, it has been used incorrectly for awhile because there was not a code for band adjustments. The correct code is S2083, which is a temporary code. The reason 90772 is not correct is that it specifies subcutaneous or intramuscular injection, and the saline is not injected into either it's injected into the port. I've taken out some bands, it's sort of like if you get a cut on your skin and have to go to the ER to get it stitched up. After the stitches are removed, the skin isn't really the same, but for all intents and purposes it is. When I remove a band I usually just cut it and slip it out of the tunnel, leaving the sutures in as you can't tell they're there and they don't affect the function of your stomach at all. Only takes me about 20 minutes to yank one. Dr. Trace Curry Cincinnati, Ohio Got a question? Ask the doctor at Trace W. Curry, M.D. Lap Band Surgeon :: Home Participate in our forum--> Trace W.
