  1. Hi guys, well I am day 1 post op, everything went well, I am in a lot more pain than I anticipated. I remember waking up in recovery in severe pain and I was kinda surprised at that. Was given alot of pain meds and spent about 2 1/2 hours in recovery before going to my room. I slept off and on all day yesterday and got home today. I had the barium swallow and this morning and everything went down fine!! I don't have any gas pains yet. More inside pains if that makes sense. Some pain on the left thats where my port is the doctor said. He said my liver was perfect didn't need to retract that during the procedure which means the preop diet was a success!! Anyway, i'm just going to take it easy drinking a little juice and broth for dinner not too hungry at all but I know I better try to drink. Was given liquid roxicet for pain and took that. I do seem to be swollen in my belly although my incisions are small and painless. I'm glad to be on the "banded" side now!!! Good luck to the rest of the May bandsters!!!

    Palpitations

I am 10 days post op today..and for the past few days been experiencing heart palpitations. I did consult with my pcp today and since i have hypothyroidism she did lots of blood work and my tsh came back very low meaning i'm getting way to much synthroid. So she is thinking this is the reason why for the palps has anyone else had them?? She did lower the dose and i can't wait to see if this stops the problem. On the good side of things my cholesterol and triglycerides where all in normal range!! Ive been on medication for both for the past 8 years and I quit taking them the past 8 weeks since I have been watching and also down a total of 50 pounds since starting the 6 month program.. 30 pounds the first 6 months and the past 3 weeks another 20 so thats the positive side!! Still a few days away from soft food but can't wait to "eat" instead of drink... have a great week!!

Good Luck Tricia on your upcoming surgery!!! Keep us posted!!
  5. Good Luck with your upcoming surgery, I would ask about vitamins if you haven't done so already, if its outpatient or overnight stay, pain medicine when you go home, when you can return to work and exercising. I had my surgery on the 7th and my doctor said he would do a fill in 6 to 8 weeks. Best of luck to you!!

    Liquid Diet ?????

Good luck on your upcoming surgery!! I bought whey protein powder from GNC i first bought vanilla in the pouch not the jar it was $15.99 and mixed that with water and skim milk and added frozen fruit very good, then i went back and bought cookies and cream and strawberry, not crazy about the strawberry but cookies n cream delicious!! and they were buy one get one half off! I have more than enough left over for weeks to come so it was pretty inexpensive.

Tmi Question, But Need To Know:

I didn't have any issues preop liquid diet bm's were normal however i'm day 5 post op and yesterday i called the drs and asked what to take for constipation and she said just let nature run its course that the dr didn't recommend anything well thank god i didn't take anything because about 2 hours later i had diarrhea all day yesterday!! I couldn't determine if it was gas or the real deal so i spent most of the day in the bathroom, today I haven't gone at all so it just depends on how your body adjusts to liquids.. but I'm glad i was home when it hit lol...

    Sleeping Comfortably Post-Op

I am also a belly sleeper, its been tough since banded on Monday, i've been on my back and turning a little on the right side, my left side is where the port is and its still sore. I did manage to leave the house today and get a few groceries and watched my son play ball, tomorrow i'll go for a short walk and see how that goes, congrats on your band and getting back to exercising!!

    Bloated Tummy

I was also banded on the 7th, and I'm still bloated it's not too uncomfortable though and yes most of my pain is on the left side where the port is, this morning its better than the previous days, I haven't been that thirsty either but I am drinking, small sips throughout the day and at meal times I try to drink more, i have had no appetitie not hungry at all which makes it harder to even want to drink, i'm sure this will all subside in time!! keep me updated!!

    Psych Eval Question

500 questions thats crazy!!! I just met with a psychiatrist that my surgeon suggested he asked a few questions such as did i know the risks of the procedure, body changes and how i may feel about myself after the weight comes off, if i was married and had children and if they were supportive, some questions about my general health, if i was ever mentally ill or took any antidepressants, it lasted about 10 minutes and he said ok i see no reason why you shouldn't have the surgey from his stand point and submitted the letter to the surgeon. Please let me know how yours goes good luck!!
  14. I mix my shakes with 4oz water and 4oz skim milk and also add some ice and frozen fruit such as strawberries, banannas, blueberries etc i put it in the blender and drink it..i bought vanilla, cookies and cream and strawberry whey protein powder from gnc. The frozen fruit i bought is for smoothies found in the grocery store. After i blend it if its not thick enough i freeze for about 10 minutes and it does thicken up if you like yours thick. My liquids sounds like yours all except for the fruit. For me it took about 3 days to feel like i wasn't hungry anymore. I tried to space the shakes out and the broth tastes so bland that i ve been using ramen noodles broth packet which has a lot more flavor and I know the sodium is high so i just try to keep a eye of that..good luck!!

    Liquacel

It's a liquid protein they told me to buy in the pharmacy at the hosp where im having surgery..they said to add 2 tablespoons to drinks 3 times daily....I was reading my post op diet papers they gave me and It didn't say to have any protein shakes the first week post op just clear liquid diet so im guessing this is taking place of the protein shakes
