Sh*t I've Learned From This Board!
Giselle3264 replied to chicagochic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I learned the value of NSVs. Sometiimes the scales refuse to show how much progress we're making but there are other ways to see we're headed in the right direction. Too tight pants that are now too big or a compliment from an unexpected source. #3 is where I've failed before so I've already bought my serving containers to freeze meals that I can then pop into the microwave later in the week. -
What a great site. I've added it to my favorites. Thanks for sharing. G.

The 14 day liquid diet is difficult, I'll be honest. But hardly impossible. Just take it one day at a time. Even one meal at a time if that works better for you. The key is to drink ALL the Protein shakes you're supposed to have, use the sf Jello, sf popsiscles, etc. and drink plently of water/Crystal Lite. I discovered the low fat, low sodium chicken broth in the evening is a real treat to look forward to. Most importantly it's only 14 days all aimed to ensure a safer surgery and easier recovery. You CAN do it!! G.

Kat1, I'm praying for your continued healing after this horrible ordeal. But I also want to thank you for being on this forum and trying to help and advise others even though you clearly have your own problems. You are an example of the best this forum has to offer. Thank you! G.

I'm a 2 1/2 year survivor of breast cancer. My husband asked why I wasn't angry when I got my diagnosis and I told him it only meant God had a different plan for my life. This was the way He would prepare me to serve Him in a way I couldn't before. I fought the disease every step of the way to get a chance to serve that purpose. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers every day, sweetie. Please keep us posted. (((HUGS)))

All Sleevers Need To Make A Promise To......

I promise! -
Glad to hear it, Patrick. That's exactly what happened to me. Bit down, woke up, all over. My throat was a little scratchy the next day but hardly noticeable. @klizanich - edg is esophagogastroduodenoscopy or upper intestinal endoscopy. It's a pre op procedure where they look at the structures from your esophagus to the first portion of the small intestine to identify any abnormalities. This is one of the clearances for surgery. G.

Starting day 4 of all liquid pre-op. Better? Yes! Good? Not even. But I continue to lose weight so I'm trying not to whine as well as trying not to strangle anyone. I went to a Zumba class last night and it was so much fun. But I'm not sure I've ever been so tired. And with no Advil to literally ease my pain, I'm pretty achy today. G.

Sleeved This Past Monday-Home Terrified Today
Giselle3264 replied to Looking Ahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All good advice here. I would just stress to get your liquids in so you don't end up in the ER. Sip, sip, sip! Also, take that Welburtin NOW! I'm on an anti-depressant for hot flashes but I learned quickly (even though I was warned sternly) you CANNOT suddently stop taking them. If I'm even late with my anti-depressant, my head starts to spin and my thoughts are bizarre. You've got too many other stress going now to not have that reinforcement. BIG HUG! to you. You deserve it. G. -
Nervous About Insurance Approval..help!
Giselle3264 replied to marzee0728's topic in Insurance & Financing
I had a BMI of 40+ 4 out of 5 years. But the year I was down was when I received chemo for breast cancer. Even though my requirements don't state it, the surgery coordinator also sent proof of my sleep apnea and my hypertension as co-morbidities. I was approved in about a week. G. -
Day three of the pre op diet is done and no one was strangled by me. I'm going to brush my teeth and go to bed before that changes. Are we there yet?
-
I'm going to be sleeved with Dr. Kim at Forest Park July 9th. Did they give you a shot of heparin the stomach before your surgery? I'm very happy to hear you're ok. It pays to be aware and speak up.

Moving On To Phase 2?
Giselle3264 replied to tiffany bowen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have either of you tried baby food? Its on my list and I thought it's probably milder on the tummy than things I might cook and puree. Not only that, it's just heat and eat! -

Honesty Vs. Lying About The Surgery
Giselle3264 replied to Lovely's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Really enlightening to read the different approaches here! I've struggled with this because I am a VERY private person. I told my boss since I will be out of work and she had the RNY years ago! I told my former boss because she's a great friend and was very successful with WW where I wasn't. I told my closest co-worker because she's a nurse. Her reaction was cautionary but positive. I told the co-worker who would be covering for me because she's a good friend, and I told ONE of my two daughters because she flat out asked me. And the last person I told was my husband. He tried for an hour to talk me out of it. Now 12 days before my surgery he says he's shocked I finally took action to get this under control. Uh. Ok. You would have thought it was his idea! I'm not comfortable not telling my best friends, but I need a little room until after the procedure. I'll probably quote your doctor for awhile. As many others have said. Do what makes you comfortable. G. -
