To Tell Or Not To Tell That You've Had Lapband Surgery Or Wls(Weight Loss Surgery)
AlleyKat replied to lafaye999's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I love this suggestion but there is one issue, I AM the HR Manager! I'm not taking the Friday off. I worded it poorly, I'm off on the Friday is it is my regularly scheduled day off. If I can't make it in on the Monday I will call in but will likely end up working from home. As the HR Manager I fully respect my employees right to privacy and I would never ask for details. However, my fellow managment team is not always the same way (Hence why I have a job lol). I fully plan on getting a doctors note for the time off but only using it if I need to. -
Wheres My June Bandsters??

To be able to shop in a 'regular' store again would be a dream... -
It is not feasible to never have a piece of chocolate or a glass of wine again. None of us got to where we are from a glass of wine or a piece of chocolate. We all still have lives to live, we just need to make smarter choices along the way. Saying we CAN'T have something is how a lot of us got here in the first place! Enjoy your wine and husband and live life to the fullest. P.s. My surgeon NEVER mentioned being unable to consume alcohol, only to not over consume and to wait until I am fully healed. Let's all support eachother here because not one of us is perfect and we should not expect others to be either.

Glad to see some fellow Slimbanders! How would you describe your overall experience? Were you happy with the facility and how you were cared for?

To Tell Or Not To Tell That You've Had Lapband Surgery Or Wls(Weight Loss Surgery)
AlleyKat replied to lafaye999's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Love this topic because I had a bit of a melt down over it last night. I've told my DH, my best friend (Who had the surgery) and her family, and my parents. That's it. I'm not embarassed, I have just been put down by people for so long about my weight that I don't need to be put down for this decision. I know I've made the right decision for me so I really don't care what anyone else thinks. I wasn't going to tell my Dad because I know he is against it. I told him last night and now he refuses to talk to me. My husband doesn't fully support it either. He supports me but not me getting the surgery. I felt very alone last night. I'm not planning on taking any time off of work as a have a desk job and I am off the day of surgery and two days after but if I need to. I plan on going with the hernia/gall bladder story too. It's hard when you tell people you love and they don't support your decision. On the other hand, my friend who had the surgery told everyone, posted it on facebook etc. For the world to see. That's what she wanted to do and she is happy with her decision. Everyone is different! -
Wheres My June Bandsters??
AlleyKat replied to mcuevas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
June 22nd here! No liquid diet, just a 10 day strict low fat low carbon preop diet. I can't wait to start the rest of my life -
I started to look in to Slimband over a year ago but chicken out do to cost and lack of knowledge. My best friend looked in to the band more recently and she ended up booking. She rekindeled my interest and I started researching again and got approval for financing (I'm in Canada so I'm self-pay).. I've done a lotof research and decided I wanted to the band but was still a little hesitant to book. Today I took my friend to her slimband surgery and the staff were excellent and the clinic was very nice. I got a chance to meet the surgeons and anestheologist (sp?). I took the plunge and booked my surgery while I was waiting. All the papers are signed and the appointment is booked for June 22nd!!! They had plenty of appointments before that but I work FT shift work and am not entitled to vacation so it was difficult for me. Now I'm sitting here freaking myself out. I'm excited but I'd feel better if i had the full suport of my family. My Husband is supportive of me and will help me but he feels it is a waste of money and is too risky. I've explained the pros and the reasons why I feel it is the right decision for me. he's still not on board. My Mum supports my decision either way but wont really talk to me about it and I know not to even tell my Dad. I'm glaf I'm going to have the support of my best friend and hopefully some more support from my husband. I start my pre-op June 12th for 10 days before my surgery. I know it's a while away but I am looking forward to meeting more June Bandsters! btw, my friend is doing VERY well. She was wide awake whne they let her out of recovery. She said she doesn't 'hurt' shes just uncomfortable. I'm excited to see how her recovery goes.

Surgery Set For June 12, 2012
AlleyKat replied to Secondchanceatlife's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on your date! I am getting my band June 22nd! My friend was banded May 11th and I was at her appointment. The surgeon said to start walking right away, even if it is just a little bit you need to get moving. I know you cant swim until atleast a week afterwards but I think for anything else it would just be what you feel you are up to doing. No one knows your body better than you do! Good luck!! -
Got My June Surgery Date!!
AlleyKat replied to AlleyKat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Momof3! Thanks for your response, I'm happy to have 'met' a fellow June bandster! I have a lot of gamily history with heart disease, diabities, strokes, kidney problems, joint problems etc. I know that's not the lif I want for myself. my doctor has warned me that is the direction I am heading in and that I MUST lose weight. Goodluck on your journey!! -
I just wanted to take a quick moment to introduce myself and tell my story. I am located just North of Toronto, Canada. I do not currently have a surgery date. I've been researching 'Slimband' for approximatly a year and have debated it the entire time. If it wasn't for the cost, I would have done it already. My best friend is scheduled for her surgery May 11th and I'm very excited to see how she does. I'm also the one accompaning her to the procedure so they are going to give me a tour and an opportunity to ask the surgeon questions. I have been overweight since I was a child. At 12 years old my doctor had my Mom take me to Weight Watchers. I lost 80lbs and then gained it all back again. I have done Weight Watchers atleast 5 times since then in between Jenny Craig, Slim Fast, diet pills, and god knows what else. I've never reached my goal weight but I generally have some loss and then put it all back on plus some. I'm tired of this yo yo game. I want to feel good about myself and to stop feeling like a failure. I want to be healthy and to be able to shop in a 'normal' store. My husband and I want to have kids in the next couple of years and I want to be able to play with my kids and have the energy to chase them around. I also want a healthy pregnancy and to raise my kids in a healthy way and not pass on my bad habits to them. My parents have a lot of health concerns and I want to do everything I can to prevent that for myself. My husband is nervous about the surgery. I keep trying to explain that it is not an invasive procedure and the benefits could far outweigh the negatives. I'm hoping my friend's surgery goes well so he can see that everything is okay. His other major concern is cost. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to tell a spouse or loved one that the lapband can be an excellent tool that is worth the cost? Thanks!!!!
