  1. So' date=' the hardest part for me seems to be the drinks. There aren't any non-carbonated drinks I like. I hate diet koolaid, those little powder mixins, tea, and I'm sick of Water...

    Any brilliant suggestions?

    Thanks![/quote']

I have the same problem....WATER!!! I have found a drink called FUZE slenderize. It comes in two flavors that we can drink. 10 cal ....1 sugar.... no fat and vit A C E. Try them they are great!!!

  2. Has anyone tried Shirataki Noodles.

Pasta is the one thing that I think I am really going to miss if I cannot stomach it. I am only a week post-op so I obviously have not tried anything thicker than yogurt; so who knows' date=' maybe I will be okay with pasta.[/quote']

The noodles are great!!! I just had some tonight!!! YUM YUM!!

  3. Okay' date=' here's my delima: I cannot stand hamburger meat since surgery, chicken gets stuck unless it's canned and I make chicken salad, I eat a lot of fish (and I'm getting tired of it), shaved turkey or ham, cheese (low fat), cottage cheese, I may eat a half of an 8" Quesadilla with low fat cheese in it. I'm getting burned out on my meals as I eat these things every day. I was wondering how you guys get your Protein in in other ways besides meat? I went to the dr last week and had .25cc's removed, he thought I was too tight, I'm 3 months post op by the way and before he came in his nurse blessed me out over drinking Protein shakes. I only drink them occassionally like before church when I'm in a hurry and it's simple and quick but she said that the only time I should be drinking them was pre op and post op. I felt like a scolded child, guess I should have said something to the dr but didn't. He such a sweetie and great bedside manner. Anyway, off the subject, back at hand, I haven't tackled pork chops or steak, scared to as if chicken gets stuck so will that. Open for suggestions. thx

Another option with brans is to make your own brean burgers. I make black bean burgers that are so good and they freeze great!!

  4. Yesterday I got tired of my super baggy pants...and since I wasn't sure of what size to get I went to Walmart (thought since sizes change so fast I don't want to spend a fortune on clothes). I was so surprised that the size 18W slid right on--no "sucking" in or dancing around to get them zipped...I was amazed because pre-banding I was wearing a size 28W...never thought I would be able to wear a smaller size again. I tried to explain this feat to my husband but he just didn't get it. I am excited and needed to share my excitement with people who will understand and join me in this simple celebration!!!

I just had my 5 month check up yesterday and I'm down 50 lbs now. I've gone from a 24 to an 18 pants. My surgery was May 11th and I'm tickled pink. I think I'm pretty close to being in the green zone and very excited. Just wanted to brag about my band!! Your doing great!!! And keep it up!!!

  5. I have Plantar Fasciitis in my right foot and its painful all the time. I have custom orthotics in my shoes and wear orthotic sandals all the time' date=' even around the house. I am a server/bartender so it flares up after/during each shift. I have night splints and arch support things that I've tried but they don't seem to help either. Plus my doctor says even walking will continue to irritate it so I guess they only exercise I can do is the elliptical. Anyone found anything that will help it go away?[/quote']

I have the same problem and what I do is take a bottle and fill it with Water and freeze it. Then while sitting down roll the bottle with your arch or does help with the pain.

  6. OK people help me out please.... What are some good breakfast ideas' date=' I'm getting ready to go shopping and have no idea what to get... Something quick and easy, and just for one... I don't have any kids or man to cook for so I find myself eating yogurt alot and I get hungry fast so I need some help here please[/quote']

I will mix up eggs in a bowl and then fill cupcake pan half way and then I have several days of breakfast!! I've found a lot of recipes on interest...lol

  7. This has been a major concern for me. I have not gotten the surgery yet and just met with the dietitian for the first time. She rolled her eyes when I said I was a vegetarian (lacto/ovo) and told me it was going to be difficult to get 75 grams of Protein per day when I'm down to 4 oz meals. Very discouraging. I left feeling very stressed and concerned that I won't be able to succeed. I can use all of the support out there right now. Struggling to lose the 12 pounds needed for the surgery - when I am stressed' date=' I eat (duh!).[/quote']

I had my surgery May 11th and have had problem getting my Protein in. I eat Beans, gardeins which I love and tons of other thing just as the others have said. Don't worry it hasn't been a problem at all. Docs and others think we need to have the meat and we don't!! I chose not to eat meat for my health not because of animal killing though I don't agree with it. Anyways good luck you will be fine. I'm vegan by the way!!

  8. I started having problems with the high animal Protein diet back in November of 2011. Apparently my gallbladder was deciding to go crazy. After the gallbladder was removed i was having bowel issues. One extreme to the next. I looked at what i was eating and then decided to eat a couple of weeks of plant based low fat and it was AMAZING.

I bought Lindsay Nixon's (the Happy Herbivore) cookbooks and subscribed to her blog and have started phasing out meat and consuming a lot less dairy. Her cookbooks are amazing. The recipes are all from scratch and the ingredients are stuff you can find at your local grocery (even walmart). Made her pumpkin bread with Maple Icing last night (How good does that sound!). The Engine 2 diet is on my list to read but right now i am fully satisfied with recipes in my current books and my own imagination. I still eat seafood and low fat meat occasionally (like maybe 1x a week) but in much smaller portions (2 oz at the most) than the past. I tend to eat meat when i am rushed or didnt plan my meal. I love vegan boca burgers (at sams you can get 16 for 9) but eat them sparingly since they are processed. Same with Gardein products. Gardein has BBQ skewers (good with BBQ Sauce on a bun)' date=' BBQ shreds, and buffalo wings. They are a little pricey but my Kroger's puts them on Managers Special and/or with a Q they come out real cheap. I hardly ever buy them full price. I eat a lot of Beans, greens, and lentils, quinoa, grits. I incorporate bread, brown rice, and Pasta and after that i am pretty satisfied. I eat a lot of "sides" but jazz them up to make a meal.

Did you know you can sub oil for applesauce in baked goods and eggs for mashed bananas?

This has been a gradual process and I will most likely never be fully plant based but my goal is to be 90% plant based. I have a hard time giving up yogurt :P and have not found a good substitute.

There have been so many benefits other than the regularity. My skin is better, i feel less tired (especially after a meal), my hair is growing faster and my scalp is less oily. During this process I have also learned to pay more attention to ingredients (and not only in food either) and how my food is made. I watched Food Inc. and Forks Over Knives and read the China Study to get my will-power in gear.

I stalled in weight loss after my gallbladder attacks started but if i stay on track with my new diet my weight slowly starts dropping again. I just have to make sure i stick to my allowed calories as well as watch what i eat. Plant based isnt a miracle cure but has become another tool to help my lap band journey.

The other benefit is that buy cutting back meat and dairy you spend a lot less at the grocery store!

Would love to have a Vegan/Vegetarian board on this forum![/quote']

I would love to have a veggie/vegan board as well.

  9. Anyone heard of or tried 'Bio skinny shake'? It's a Protein shake for people who want to loose weight. I'm 2 weeks post op and my nurse/nutritionist never mentioned Protein shakes so I was going to try this one? I don't want to take Protein Shakes because they contain a lot of calories and I thought they were for people trying to build a load of muscle? But this one sounded good.

Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk

I'm drinking nectar and it is great!!!

  10. Anybody think about becoming a vegetarian

I have thought about this for a long time

meat just doesn't go down very well

Exp fish' date=' but beef and chicken can be dry and not go down

    Anybody out there try this?

    Could you share your results[/quote']

I eat vegetarian pre and post lap band. I eat Beans that my husband makes in the crock pot with liquid smoke...onions or what ever you want in it. I eat Gardein meat substitutes which are delish!! I Amys vegan burgers....hummus with half cup of veggies. I only eat a cup of food at each meal and no Snacks. My mornings are a Protein Shake. I do eat some fish but that's about it. You can find lots of recipes on line that are very good. Experiment and have fun!!!! I chose this lifestyle before lap and for health reasons. Good luck!!! Any question please ask.

  11. I had my surgery May 11th and was experiencing the same as you. I have a 10 cc band and on Thursday he put in .3cc. I'm hoping this helps me as well with the feeling of wanting to much all the time.....I havent had that feeling since surgery but the last two weeks have been terrible. I cant have anything mushy until Monday at lunch so it's Protein Shakes until then. Since surgery it's been 27lbs and 35lbs pre op so I'm happy with the results and still feel this was the best thing that I've done for myself.

  12. God definitely answers prayers! He did mine for sure! That's so funny that we were both banded the same day' date=' and my 3mo post op appt is the 9th as well! I will be getting my 3rd fill![/quote']

I hope I get another fill I feel as if I'm not in the green zone yet. How much are you eating per meal? Let's be friends and stay in touch since everything is about the same. I have a 10 CC band and have 5 CC in my band now.

  13. I was banded May 11th as well. pre op I weighed 271 and this morning I weighted 236. I go back to the doc August 9th for my 3 month check up. I decided to do the surgery to help my health, I was tired of the roller coaster ride and what is was doing to me. I prayed for over a year and what do do and I believe God answered my prayer with the band.

  14. I wondered because last time I had a bad stuck episode I ended up with a swollen pouch and as it started to heal i ended up with a lot of excess gas trapped under my rib cage and my side was killing me. It felt like a period but worse.

I ended up extremely constipated to and felt terrible. So I went back to liquids took some gas x and used a heating pad and a day later felt exellent.

Thay crazy cramping feeling is absolutley terrible.

That is a lot of what it feels like...gas..cramps...constipatation all wrapped up in to one. Like I said it feels better each day. I'm on liquids until lunch on Monday and at lunch I can have mushy.

Thanks for your help. If anything go wrong I always worry it's my band....lol I need to work through that.

  15. Question though are you having and side pain or under your rib cage pain?

I'm on liquids until Monday lunch. I did have some at ribs and aides nut it is getting better. It isn't the type of pain to where I need to go back to him it's just uncomfortable especially at first. It seems to be even better this morning. The reason for getting stuck on Monday night was my fault I was very hungry and taking to big of a bite and not chewing
