well, 1. because you have no choice now and 2. because this is typical. I lost 22 pounds my first 6 weeks and 10 lbs was from the first week. I was sleeved April 24th and just hit the 75lbs mark. I have plateaued, I have been frustrated and I have been where you are. But the weight comes off. I am not happy with the pace, but it has its bright sides. No loose skin, my hair has not fallen out, I was able to save some money for new clothes over the long interim. Hang in there and take it easy on yourself. Your body is in starvation mode right now. It will be a while (like 2 weeks) before it adjusts and lets the weight go.

Anybody else eating more and losing more? Once I broke the 1,000 a day the weight started to come off. I was nervous at first because I thought I was going to plateau but I knew -and my hair loss knew-that I needed more protein. Is this common with anyone else?

Sleeved April 24th, down 60 lbs. I make so much noise after I drink something. It continues for like an hour. Does this happen to anyone else and did it happen to anyone and has now stopped? What can I do to minimize or just stop this?

yes I was approved 100%. A hiatal hernia is found when you do an endoscopy (there are a barrage of tests you need to get, but they are covered by insurance and they ensure that you are healthy for the surgery) It is a ballooned out part of the gastric track due to too much weight in the mid section. Pregnant women get them all the time. It caused my heartburn. I did not know it was there until I got the endoscopy. Honestly, while I was tired, literally and figuratively, of being fat the 6 months was a good time for me to get adjusted and learn about the nutritional needs of my body pre and post surgery. Good luck. I think you'll be okay with the insurance.

awesome. Mine is going on 4 months later.

I have united, one issue (hiatal hernia) and a bmi of 35 and change. I had to do a 6 month rigamarole, but then I was approved.

What Are Friends For...no Support

I love those people. "How about a yogurt instead of ice cream?" as if this was some new revelation my fat a** did not consider. When you get to be more than 100 lbs overweight, then cursory diet and exercise will not do it. I only kept getting bigger and bigger. Right now, I am not a happy woman by any means, but I am better. My blood pressure is down to normal, I don't get out of breath because I walked up a flight of stairs and I can say "I've looked worse" when I look in the mirror. The surgery gave this to me. NOTHING ELSE WAS WORKING. Unless you needed to lose a lot of weight, you just wouldn't understand. -

Most of this answer is about you and how great you have it. This woman was reaching out for help not your brag bag. -

I withheld telling anyone until like one week before I went to get the surgery. I also had a hiatal hernia that was getting fixed so I just basically told everyone that I was going for that. As expected, I heard from my fat friends, "Well, I am going to do it the hard way and not skip out on the easy route" (P.S. they are still fat.) People LOVE you to be miserable because they can feel better in your presence. Your friend is threatened by your imminent success. Side note, I went in at 287 on April 24th, am now 225 so the weight does not just fall off and the skin doe snot sag if you work out. (I do like 40 minutes a day). -
and I have list 17 lbs. I know, I know whooo hooo and better than gaining. But my problem is, I lost 10 lbs the first week and then eeked out a few pounds every other week. This week? BUPKIS. I think this surgery was a big fat failure. All I have is acid reflux all the time, I crave food but can't eat and I am still a fat piece of s#*!. Has anyone who has been successful with this albatross of a surgery had any similar experience? I am really depressed about this.

so I lost 7 lbs this week after not losing more than 1 1/2 for two weeks. The protein and water is working and even if this is not seen again for another two weeks, this is a success. No more complaining. Not posting to brag (hate that) posting because a lot of others go through the same stagnation and it is impossible to see hope.

It's Been A Month....
pinkiguana replied to pinkiguana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you. And no, I am not exercising or getting in my water. I can do better with the water, but I will really have to fight my fatigue with the exercise. No excuses, but my doctor did tell me to wait until I was 6 weeks out. I'm just in a rough place. I know I'll be ok one day. I'm glad I found this forum. Thank you Tibbie -
It's Been A Month....

I have to lose 77 lbs to get out of being medically overweight. I don't think that's such a small amount that this plateau should be happening. When I was on my pre-op diet, I lost 5 lbs a week. I am feeling really cheated and ultra-sensitive and negative. I look on this site alone and everyone's bio says that they lost 10-15 lbs their first few weeks out of surgery. I realize there is no going back and I just have to get used to it, but I was looking for some peace of mind, someone to tell me that they are now the weight they want to be and they lost weight as slow as molasses in the beginning too. -

Anyone Able To Eat More Than 4 Oz?
pinkiguana posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 4 weeks post surgery this tuesday and I just had 4 oz of mush (Chef Boyardee-great option for mush). I didn't eat the whole can of food, but I feel I could have. I couldn't have stretched my stomach this early, and besides, I barely take anything but liquids in. Has this happened to anyone else? -
I Can Drink A Lot More Than 4 Oz.

Is that bad?? Not alcohol. just brothy soups and protein shakes. Am I going to bust a staple? -
Sleeved April 24th. Lost 10 lbs my first week and ONE POUND this week. I can't plateau this early!! I'm still 100lbs away from goal. anyone have anything similar happen to them?
-
I'm still on just liquids. This was uber disappointing to say the least.

So some naysayers in my life who considered my surgery "the easy way out" are making faux laments for me that I will NEVER eat my favorite meal ever again. Not true, right? I just can't eat it like it's my last meal. My question is, when is the week date that this can happen? I was sleeved on April 24th.
