I've been heavy most of my life - except during "dating years" when I practically starved myself. Once i got married I soon got very comfortable & began to gain - more with each pregnancy. I now have 3 beautiful girls with my youngest being disabled. So as the years have passed along, my health is becoming more & more important. The past year I have gained close to 25+ pounds. My feet have become so painful to walk it was getting difficult to carry my daughter. Though I knew I have no other pre-existing conditions like htn, cardiac, diabetes - I knew they were not far behind. I had to act.
I have tried WW several times, Atkins, South Beach, even took up running. Now that was great - I truly enjoyed how I felt but was frustrated at the fact that no matter how much I ran (2 half marathons) I never lost weight. I ran & ran & ran & the lowest my weight went down to was 178. I got so discouraged I stopped running - which led me to present health....just plain awful.
I spent 1 week on a liquid diet - not enjoyable but very tolerable. I admit i did cheat a bit at the end. I had a salad & a bowl of granola cereal. Not what I would consider a cheat prior to all this lol!!
I was in the hospital for a day but in retrospect i think I should have stayed for 2 days. The dilaudid clouded my judgement - I felt too good. I passed my swallowing test & went home a few hours later with a JP drain intact. I slept forever!! It took a few another day till feel like I actually was "getting better". My only post-op problems were the fact I was not sent home with dressing change supplies & home health was not set up right away. But that turned out to be a bust for me anyways since I am a nurse & what I would be paying for I could do myself (husband is one too). A few bouts of nausea but my surgeon called a prescription in stat & nipped that problem in the bud. He's awesome!!
So here I am - 3 days post op and feeling pretty good. Trying to relearn how to drink again but doing ok.
