  1. This is from the carbon dioxide that they pump into your body---it is hitting a nerve in your diagphragm and it radiates to your left shoulder. Horizontal worked for me and a heating pad---when I wasn't laying down, I was walking Take Care--this soon will pass

    Two weeks of what??

Faithmd, Have you got your surgery date yet?
  3. Hey Sherri, There are chewable tums and chewable tylenol that you can take. My doctor told me that the strips don't work for everyone---and they don't. I had horrible gas pains too--and left shoulder pain. I found that if I could lay horizontal it helped with the pressure---and when I wasn't laying I was walkin'. Just know that I understand. Keep your chin up

    Ground Meat?

I have 4 days left of liquids then I start mushies. I was wondering if ground hamburger or turkey is allowed? What about crabcakes? Thanks in advance for all that reply :hungry:

    Pain

This happen to me about the 3rd day after surgery. It is really caused by the gas that they have pumped in you during surgery--using starts hurting day 3-to day 5. The gas is pressing on a nerve in your diaphragm that then leads to your left shoulder. Best thing for me is to use a heating pad and lay horizontal as much as possible. Also, walking helped. Just know that it will get better. Denise :welldoneclap:

    Teachers And The Band

Hi There! I am a high school teacher--and like you I had my band done before Spring Break (3/8) and I am going back tomorrow 3/19. I will tell you that I am a little nervous about going back to school tomorrow-especially since it is a 6:30am-3:00pm day--I think I will probably miss the naps. I am going to try to take it easy for the first couple of days--probably teach from my desk (which will be hard for me--I am very animated--I teach Biology) I probably won't have a problem for RR breaks--because you will find out you go a lot less after surgery. I'll let you know this week how it goes :welldoneclap: Take Care! Denise
  9. Okay...I am freakin' out. I was banded on 3/8 and I am having such a difficult time. I am having horrible pains in my left shoulder--and it has gotten increasingly worse everyday. Is this gas? I am so confused...and I feel like I can't go through another day like this.
  10. Hi Exude, When is your doctor lettting you go on mushie foods? I am getting tired of Soups too.
  11. I had my surgery 3/8 and I am going back to work 3/19 (which I used by Spring Break to recover-I am a teacher). I had problems with pain--left shoulder started day 3 of recovery----it SUCKS! This does not happen with everyone--but it did me--so my advice is always to side with caution. Plan for the worst and hope for the best! I would take the vacation---but I am woose.
  12. I wasn't hungery until around day 5. Then it hit..but not that bad. Just follow the doctor's orders about your pre-op diet. How long do you have to stay on liquids after the surgery?

    home last night

Congrats! Hope you have a speedy recovery!

    Bye bye band.

I might be wrong, but I think it is a Staph infection.

    I was blindsided too! aargh:faint:

    Questions

I was able to home the same day--in at 7am out at 9pm ( I had some recovery delays) If you have the option to stay, then stay----if your body tells you to.

    Getting home after surgery..

You need to sleep--and when you are not sleeping try to walk. The more you can do both the faster you can heal. Plus you will have gas pains--from the CO2 that they pump into your body for the laproscopy surgery--and to help with this you need to walk. Take Care!
  18. I don't have any advice for you---but I feel your pain. I am 6 days post op too...and I am having the same problems. I went to the doctor today and asked if I could start eating mushies...and he said no...one more week of liquids. aargh:hungry:
  19. I went in at 7am and left the hospital at 9pm. I probably should have stayed over night. Everyone is different---just listen to your body.

    Pain in Shoulder

Thanks everyone for the great advice. Got the rocking chair...and I'm ROCKIN" :heh:
  22. It may be water weight....but also the broth may have had a high sodium content which could explain the weight gain (water). Welcome to band-land
  23. Nope...horizontal...at least for the shoulder pain. So what helped you? I swear I want to cut my arm off....just kidding...
  24. Hi Exude, How are you feeling? Everything was good for me until 3 days after surgery---so watch out. Since they have to pump you full of CO2 for the laproscopy--sometimes it hits a nerve in your diaphragm and the pain hits your left shoulder. Here is my advice if it happens to you.....walk...walk....and when your not walking stay horizontal. or bend over on the back of the chair. I hope this doesn't happen to you...because it frankly sucks! :faint:
  25. I was banded on Thursday 3/8. I am only able to drink 2 oz of liquid and it takes me about 45 minutes to do it. Should I be concerned? I am drinking broth and my protein shakes. I am also having a lot of gas. :help:
